Super-modded Xbox can now be yours
I just clicked on this picture and…wow. Granted, people have been modding Xbox consoles since their release
date, but this is a very nice package. Poor guy, he has to sell it, but damn if it isn't nice to look at.
If you are not saving for a 360 or you just have some money to burn for the sake of art, give this a
consideration. Also included is the Xbox Media Center OS, which does everything from let you stream videos to
check the weather (go here if you want to know
more). At $350, it's a little pricey, but for what it can do you might like to at least dream about it. And
besides, with all this next-generation news/rumors floating about, it's nice to have a reminder that there still is a
current generation of consoles around.
I'm still holding out for a slim line Xbox - I'll probably be dreaming for that until the day I die, or until the 360
comes out.
[Thanks, Carter]

How's this news? This is just the custom xecuter control pannel.
http://www.modchipman.com/x3-control-panel-black-p-261.html
half the people with modded boxes buy these. Plus, it's illegal to sell an XBOX with XBMC on it, since it's compiled wiht XDK which can only be obtained if you are licensed MS developer, or from P2P

nice, thanks pasha... I was trying to find more info on that mod.
I am guessing it is only illegal in the UK?
Daniel Strack @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
So, I was kinda planning on buying this... I'm in the US... I guess I shouldn't?
joe @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
nope...it's illegal in the US also...for more info on crazy xbox stuff check out xbox-scene.com
Pasha @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
ok, i'll provide people with more details. This is just a hardware modification, and they are legal to buy pretty much everywhere. The software part is illegal to distribute by any means. It is very easy to find though. For more info you should hit up http://www.xbox-scene.com/ the only site you ever need to visit for xbox modding. Their forums are a huge wealth of knowledge. Feel free to e-mail me with questions. I have a gmail account, and the nick is pavelgutin. (Take that spambots!)

1) XBMC is illegal everywhere, including in the US, as it is Microsoft copyrighted material.
2) This Xbox is nothing special and a new one just like it can be obtained for about the same price, maybe cheaper. check out the trusted web shops at www.teamxecuter.com for details.
3) Either the author of this article knows little about the "Xbox scene," or the guy selling this is a friend of his. There's nothing special about this xbox, that control panel on the front is marketed by Team Xecuter.
Daniel Strack @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
I do understand all that... but assuming I don't want to mod my xbox and do it all myself... this isn't a bad deal...
Pasha @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
#7, if it all it has is XBMC on it, and the xecuter control pannel, that's a huge ripoff. It better have an upgraded HD, and a big one too.
Daniel Strack @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
I see... There is no upgraded HD... I guess I'll steer away. I just wouldn't mind getting one of these that's already built and has XBMC on it all configured and ready to go. Gonna do some more searching. Thanks for your input!

ChronoZaga - I'm not heavy into the Xbox scene, no, you're right, but I have spent many endless hours of my night with friends who have tried to install very similar mods to their Xbox - usually they're successful, one time they messed up their console a bit, but either way it was always a time waster and a pain. This package, legal or not, has everything already set up, and how I viewed the price was very fair. Sure, there are probably other more nicely modded Xboxes out there - but I just thought it was a nice deal in general. Probably not newsworthy, though, you're right - sorry about that.

I would consider myself fairly knowledgeable about the general technology scene, following hardware, etc, and occaisionally looking at console mods. However, I had never seen anytihng like this lcd and control panel. I suppose anyone who has done research on the topic would of course know about these things, but anyone else would find this totally new, and thus, newsworthy.
ChronoZaga @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Okay, I think I was a little harsh in my last post, sorry 'bout dat. The Xecuter control panel is sweat, but I'd buy a new one professionally installed from someplace recommended by team Xecuter. There are plenty of shops out there that will sell premodded Xboxes with the Xecuter control panel, new HDD, mod chip, even a 16x DVD. Check out the prices.
Also, sorry if I've lost perspective with non xbox sceners. I forget that not everyone has been reading xbox-scene every day for the last few years.

My Uncle Lanny has one like that, but his don't have the big screen on the side.
