Let's try something different.
We've all seen the surveys. There's the IGN survey in which 55% of IGN readers favored the PS3 while 31% favored the Xbox 360 (the Revolution came in at 5%). Then there's the X-bit poll that appears to be more balanced, with the PS3 and Xbox neck-and-neck for first, with Nintendo's revolution again coming in at roughly 5%.
But really, not a one of us armchair quarterbacks knows what will happen in this round of console wars. It's impossible to declare a winner of a battle that hasn't yet happened. All we can really do is debate the history of the players (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo), the information leaked to date, so let's do that.
Let's have a debate.
Through comments on this post, we're going to debate the question: which console will have sold more units by January 2008 and why? Build an argument, defend it, and poke holes in the arguments of others. This is the sort of contest that prompted Al Gore to invent the Internet. So dust off your thesuaruses and refresh your memory on proper debate technique.
Which of the three camps will argue their points most eloquently, convincingly, and clearly? The winner will be crowned in a separate post in which we'll also quote the best quotes from the discussion. Keep it civil - we'll disqualify any contestant that crosses the line between master debater and flamethrowing combatant.
Remember the rules: keep it clean, keep it honest, no ad hominem attacks. Let's focus on what we know about the consoles so far, and what we know about the strengths and weaknesses of the organizations behind them.
