No hot coffee for you! Rockstar releases quick fix?
From the looks of things, it would appear that Rockstar games has been working on another type of "quicky" for the San Andreas edition of GTA. Comments posted to Joystiq, and the submitted links, suggest that Rockstar has relased a software patch that disables functions of the now infamous "Hot Coffee" mod. In their own words, "The patch will prevent the "Hot Coffee" scenes from being accessed even if attempts are made to install the original "Hot Coffee" modification." The website for the patch, NoMoreHotCoffee seems a bit obscure… but a clearly official patch called "No More Hot Coffe" is available form the Rockstar techsupport website. No press release seems to have been officially released on the Rockstar or TakeTwo websites at this time.

The entire concept of an optional patch makes me laugh. If someone wants to continue to access hot coffee, they won't download the patch. If someone doesn't want to see the hot coffee thing, they just won't download the mod and have no need for this. =P

Eskimo: I'm assuming it's aimed more towards concerned parents.

Man, if you were a concerned parent, would you let your kids play GTA? Not until they're 18! (It's R18 in NZ).
Eskimo Bob @ Dec 18th 2005 10:10PM
Oh, good point. Still, it seems like more of a technicality than anything else. Most parents probably still have very little knowledge of the Hot Coffee mod, and most of those that do would probably never suspect their kids of looking at that kind of thing anyway.

While quietly laughing with you, Eskimo Bob, its my duty to simply tell the facts. This patch is most likely aimed at appeasing the complaints of those shocked and awed by the the mod to begin with. We'll see how this pans out, as I can't really see how you could reliably lock out the mod from subsequent attempts. The CD has been pressed and will always carry the unprotected content.

Funny eh? I have a 2 year old son who already loves Burnout 3 (watching it - rather than playing it). I live in fear of the day I catch him playing the immersive 3d version of Leisure Suit Larry 2015.

If your kid has unrestricted access to the internet to download such a hack or a mod.
Then he is already looking at porn.
Sorry.

I'm trying to find what this patch is for, PC, X-Box, PS2... Sounds like it's for the PC. How could you patch one of the console games?
I doubt they going to give and show you the means to burn a boot disk?
David Touve @ Dec 18th 2005 10:10PM
To be clear. I don't think its funny that kids have access to this type of thing. I do think its funny, in that sarcastic "oh really" kind of way, that this patch will get Rockstar off the hook and leave parents with some assurance that all is right with the world. The questionable (for kids) content is already on the CD. The company should have taken responsibility from the outset. In fact, I would reckon that an exchange/return of the game disc should be in order for those who are concerned. Sex or no sex, this issue is about being up front with customers and taking responsibility (imho).
To the person who asked... this patch is a .exe and therefore, most likely for the PC(Windows). Oh... and I fixed the spelling of Coffee. Thanks.

I'd love to see the actual download count for this patch.

"The questionable (for kids) content is already on the CD."
...it's an M-rated game. The game never was "safe for kids." Plus, the whole point is that the content wasn't accesible in the game, the code had to be modified to access the content...we're not talking about a simple cheat code.
The whole concept of a patch to lockout a patch is ridiculous. Especially to keep "AO" sex (oh no, a boobie!) out of an "M" rated game. 17 year olds are now safe from content approved for 18 year olds.
