Totem tattoo commemorates influential games
Joystiq tipster, Tetujin, wanted us to showoff his coworker's innovative tattoo. No problem!
An explanation from the creator/bearer:
"i'd always wanted a tattoo, but could never decide what to get. a couple years ago, however, inspiration struck
and i began working on an idea. maybe it was because i was living in vancouver at the time, i'm not sure. anyway, my
recent (june 2005) 30th birthday fueled a furious design phase which has resulted in the following, now prominently
displayed on my lower left leg (most of the leg, too)!
as the native people in the pacific northwest (and other places) used totem poles to tell stories and keep family
chronologies, my design was intended to tell a history of some of the important games that influenced me and my family
as i grew up."
[Thanks, Tetujin]

Wow, this guy must be beating off the females with a stick. (no pun(s) intended)
Erik @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Wow. Zelda on top... right where it belongs.
Finished.Law.School @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
That is lame.
strider_mt2k @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
No BS.
I admire the dedication to gaming that takes, and how unique it is.
It has inspired me to think further outside the box when it comes to tats, thank you!

who is the guy below the triforce and above mario?
I know the rest.
Dignan17 @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Megaman, of course! I thought the placement was a little odd, though. Was Rockman out before the first LoZ?
Bowser @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
It's MegaMan

I like it! I think tat's should have some meaning behind them, and a lot of thought went into this. There is a story there, not just the latest celtic pattern armband.
gozer @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
megaman

That tattoo rocks. It takes balls to go with what you love rather than yet another flaming skull or anchor or whatever it is that passes for a tattoo these days.
Tattoos are supposed to tell the bearer's story and are meant to be unique. It's ironic that people brand themselves with copycat designs in an effort to be different. It's like steer #01292932 thinking that the branding iron made him look different from all of the other bovines out there.
Kudos to the guy that designed this and that wears it.

That is the ugliest thing I have ever seen. Maybe on a bumpersticker, or a book cover, or a tee shirt, but on someones skin? That is beyond lame. Permenantly putting something like that on your body is idiotic.
Yeah, it takes real balls to stick your head in a chipper shredder too.
jdm @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
a) "that is beyond lame" holds no meaning coming from someone with the moniker 'pspimp'. just sayin'
b) It is interesting to note that it is mega man 2 that is represented (as can be seen from the airsled with the 2 on it). Arguably the finest of the megaman games.

Yeah, well, at least I can get rid of "pspimp" any time I want.
I thought it was clever, I had it tatooed on my chin, damn!
Falkon @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
"pspimp" is just a shoddy nick you should want to get rid of anyways. :P
The influence and importance of gaming in the bearer's life warrants that they forever show the world their roots and inspiration. That takes a lot of guts for a medium deemed "immature" by the masses, and I admire their stance and meaning behind it.
For you, the design might be idiotic. For them, it's a testament to what inspires that person to reach for their dreams.

Obviously a geeky tattoo, but since when is there anything wrong with being geeky? That tattoo kicks ass.
rktfuel @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
w00-h00t!! Great tatoo dude, you covered all the big bases there, even though pong (or tennis, whatever you call it in your respective country) waz a bit before my time.
AND YES(!!), Megaman 2 was without a doubt the best of the series. Damn I love that little guy!
Feel the need to boot up some SNES roms all of a sudden... :)
MacD @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Now that is a tattoo which is /personal/.
What Vladimir said, too.
I like this, because it does say who a person is and how they where influenced. At the same time it's a tribute to what's inspired that person (be it the game itself, the labour of love which went into them, the feelings of joy which they conjured up, the skill it took to make them...whatever). Plus the design looks neat: cool use of shape and colour, and the totem concept is just awesome.
This is one to wear with pride, and whomsoever doesn't like it or at the very least respect it wouldn't be your friend, even if you didn't wear the tattoo.
Respect.
