New purchase intent study shows Xbox 360, PS3 tied; Nintendo lags

Graph 225In a survey of nearly 1600 consumers, Ziff Davis Media found that approximately 37% intend to purchase a Playstation 3, 34% an Xbox 360, and 14% a Nintendo Revolution.

Let's summarize the consumer study data to date.

  1. IGN reader poll on expected "power" of next-gen consoles (says nothing about intent to purchase, published August 2, 2005): 55% PlayStation 3, 31% Xbox 360, 10% Nintendo Revolution.

  2. X-bit labs reader poll on plans to buy (August 8, 2005): 23% PlayStation 3, 20% Xbox 360, 5% Nintendo Revolution.

  3. Ziff Davis Media study of 1558 consumers (August 9, 2005): 37% Playstation 3, 34% Xbox 360, 14% Nintendo Revolution.
