This game looks awesome. The video came out on monday and I'm trying to spread the word the best I can. Hopefully this game winds up on the Xbox 360. The link at the bottom of this is for the unofficial Project Offset forums and we're looking for more members.

I saw this a few days ago via Shacknews and am thoroughly impressed after viewing the demo. Such a small team but such a nice piece of work. I too, hope to see this engine running on some serious hardware. To be honest it does look on par with UE3, even the development windows have the same kind of graphical tier between shaders and materials. Very cool.

This engine looks a lot better than UE3. It includes motion blur on all movement, much higher poly-count models, and more natural texturing and lighting. The animation and post-rendering effects are really something to write home about.

It's amazing what they have done with such a small team, It looks Much better than all the other graphic engines out there.

They are accepting donations, I doubt they will get anything out of this until the game is launched and it could be a while till we see it in action.

People! Make Donations!

It looks amazing, no doubt about that. I just hope that we don't have to wait months on end for the game to come out. On another note, does anybody have any idea what the system specs were for the computer that apparently ran that in real time?

Nice...but until I hear what kind of requirements that has, I won't be THAT impressed. Especially given the limited nature of the demo. A small area is much easier to make look nice than a large one and two or three models on-screen are much easier to do than a dozen. The UE3 demo wasn't as impressive in a pure fashion...but it was a large running area that demoed a lot of complex physics. This is nice, but I don't see any of that here.

Well this is like 8 people working out of an Appartment? How powerful could their PC really be?

I mean Sony ran a CGI generated Movie of Killzone 2 that ran at 5fps and was sped up.. What does that tell you about Sony? These guys are showing a game running in real time.

This demo was created by three guys. Pretty impressive, although totally fake besides the fact that it looks cool. They're a long way from having a game I should imagine :)

Wow.. Quote from the site:

"We are just three people working out of an apartment, and are currently completely self-funded. The engine and all art thus far has been created with a tiny budget -- just enough to purchase the software and hardware we need for development. However, although our budget may be small, our goal is big. We are creating an AAA next generation game (codenamed "Project Offset"), and a powerful game engine to run it."

3 people?! Come on people, make some donations so they can eat!

am i the only one who wasn't all that impressed? there's really not that much going on at one time, so of course each model is going to look really good.

Well, look at this way. Considering how early in the Dev cycle this is, by the time the PC version comes out, top of the line PC's will be running @ 6+GHz and sub $1000.00 PC's will be running in the 4.5 to 5+ range. Who know's how well it will run on the XBox360, and personally, I don't care. There will be plenty of other great XB360 games to play by then. Anybody care to take a guess at what kind of specs the top tier gaming video cards will be sporting in 2-3 years?

I've been waiting for a game like this for a looooong time. Just check out some of the game types they are shooting for:

Castle Siege:
Team A (Evil) primary objectives:

Primary Objective: Transport siege weapons within firing distance of the castle
Primary Objective: Destroy the castle's outer defenses
Primary Objective: Infiltrate the castle and kill all the innocents
Team A (Evil) secondary objectives:

Secondary Objective: Capture the castle's guard towers
Secondary Objective: Destroy the side wall to the castle
Team B (Good) primary objectives:

Primary Objective: Light all beacons to call for reinforcements
Primary Objective: Defend the innocents for 30 minutes until reinforcements arrive
Team B (Good) secondary objectives:

Secondary Objective: Prevent the enemy's siege weapons from reaching firing distance of the castle
Secondary Objective: Defend the guard towers
Secondary Objective: Construct a barricade to the castle gate

Voyage game type:

Team A (Good) must abandon their city and head for a new land by ship. Team B (Evil) must stop them using whatever means necessary - dragons, smaller boats, etc.

Then it goes into the whole persistant experience points, various character classes thing... Yep, bring it on!

I donated, but not a million dollars. I don't see how this game won't end up with the proper funding, but I gave money anyway. The quality of the visuals the engine is capable of has me impressed. I hope they're actually able to port this to the Xbox 360. I'd rather be playing this on my bigscreen with my big sound system than on my PC.

what if it's all a scam to bilk gullible, overzelous fanboys out of their pocket change?

Graphics is one thing. I admit, I am impressed with the engine's capabilities, but I'm yet to be convinced of the engine's efficiency. Take note folks that we don't know what hardware the engine requires to run.

Plus, while the engine looks spectacular, we don't know how good the game is going to be. Let's not get carried away just yet. ;)
