Living near Atlanta, Georgia, I tend to see Ted Turner's presence pretty much everywhere I look in the city: from
TBS to Cartoon Network, CNN, baseball stadiums and now this (each one has a building, more or less). Turner
Broadcasting is preparing to launch a PC online service that allows users to have an unlimited access to a giant
library of games, including Beyond Good & Evil (yay!). What's more, the library expands beyond PC games to
emulated console games - from "the Atari 2600, Intellivision, Genesis, 32X, Game Gear, Sega Master System, Dreamcast,
PlayStation, arcades, and more," as quoted by the
GameSpot write-up.
It'll be interesting to see how this works out, because the idea is much akin to Nintendo's forthcoming online service
that allows users to download Nintendo's back catalogue in a very iTunes-like fashion. I mean, I know plenty of
people who do not like MMORPG's but don't mind paying a monthly fee for games - think of GameFly, only without having
to wait in the mail. Of course, no current-generation games will be available, but for me, that's pefectly
fine. The official launch date is October 3rd.
[Thanks, WedgeTalon]
Video game "Pay Per View" to launch in early October

First off, downloading roms is illegal if you don't own the original game.
My local cable company has beem doing this for a while. Here's their link.

It's nice to hear that that service will give my favorite Dreamcast games much deserved new players. Does this mean they'll re-open servers for Dreamcast's many online games? Only a few of of Dreamcasts online games can still be played online on a Dreamcast. It'd be nice if this service re-opens the servers so that people who own Dreamcasts can play against subscribers, and I'm sure the subscribers would enjoy learning from us "old pros."

Actually, I think it is only legal if you create the ROM from your own cart.

Except for the fact that you can play old console games, this service looks like the one the Phantom company was planning...

This could be really popular if they play their cards right..
I think the monthly fee should be rather low.

ConsoleClassix.com has been doing this for quite some time, albeit only with emulators. Basically, they own a number of physical cartridges, from which they have dumped individual ROM images. Users can then "lock" and play a ROM through their emulator software. The fancy part is that, while a ROM is locked, nobody else can use it... so they're staying within the bounds of the law. If they have seven copies of Chrono Trigger, seven people can be playing Chrono Trigger at once. It's brilliant.
Too bad you're unceremoniously dumped from the game if your connection drops. :(
