No sign yet of the US version, PSP 2.0 update

Its looking like a PSP kind of day here at
Joystiq, with a blur of stories related to the PSP. Mysteriously missing from this barrage of graphically potable
portable news is some story and link to the supposed US version of the 2.0 update to the PSP system software.
That's because we haven't seen an update yet, as far as the
Sony PSP System Update page over at
Playstation.com is concerned. We're still living in the 1.52 past. Continually hitting refresh doesn't help
either. However, we promise to spread the word once the update becomes available.

Hopefully it comes out today, but somebody show me an announcement on a Sony page or a newswire indicating an August 12th release date for North America. I'm begining to think I'm just gonna have to wait (and see if I can hold off on that 2.0 Japan update I put on my memory stick today...must not install...must not install...)

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! I get up REALLY early in the morning and got up a little extra early this morning to d/l the update and take it to work with me... It STILL isn't here! I know I could be using the japanese one but I decided to wait. Sony this is cruel and unusual. The least they could do is post a "you're moments away from 2.0" or something on their website!

Well I have been using the japanese update for some time now and there arent any differences
I am sending this using my psp right now.
So for those who cant wait download the Jap version now for all others I commend your patientness.

just called Sony Tech support they said that the 2.0 will release LIVE today they are waiting for EVERY TIME ZONE in the US to hit 12:00PM soo we are just wait for hawaii!! So dont worry it will go live today! Thats 6pm eastern! Hope this helps everyone! Thanks guys!

I don't know if the version of 2.0 that I got more than a week ago is the "J.A.P." version, but it has the full language support and all of the features described in the details for the U.S. version. I want to install the official US-release to make sure that I don't have any compatibility issues down the road.
As for the person that posted the "Sony is waiting for EVERY TIME ZONE in the US to hit 12:00PM"; I am writing this as of 2:04pm PST [which is 12:04pm in Hawaii]- just checked the Sony page and it shows 1.52. I guess you heard wrong...

#5, you're wrong, hawaii doesn't hit 12:00 PM until 6 PM Eastern.

SCEA just put a post on the official forum stating the update won't happen until the WEEK of the 15th instead of ON the 12th. Who knows what day that means?

The firmware is the same as the Japanese version only it doesn't have "Playstation Portable" displayed under "PSP" in the white Splash screen before a game launches. The only reason Sony ever has delayed releasing the "American" v.2.0 firmware is because the Sony-branded PSP-formatted portal site still doesn't have the North American page up and running. They are waiting on their web development team to get all the properly translated instructions up before they go live with the firmware. This is just my theory, but I bet the day they do announce it next week, it will be functionally the same as the Japanese version and we'll suddenly have a fully functional North American portal site up that wasn't there before.

I read somewhere that, sony had problems launching the update on Agu 12th, and they'll release it in the week of Agu 15th sometime ( they didn't give exact date ), so HOPE that it's out this wee.....

Hey guys, I've been stayin with this whole 2.0 update ever since the announcement that Japan got their update. I guess I'm here for all you guys out there, and some girls as moral support. Don't upgrade to the Japanese update, just wait. I see no consequences as of right now for your psp if you update now, but it will void your warranty and thats no good for such a piece of work as the psp. Anyways I'm sure the update is on its way and it should be coming in the next day or so. So please just hang in there.(+[___]::)

i hope the us update is better that the japan update because if the japan update is better than the american one i will want to stick with the japineese one. but that will void my warranty and i dont want to do that incase the thing stops working or something. the psp is 300 dollars that i dont want to waste. does anyone know anything about this.

This whole deal is really pissing me off, and I've been tryig to do the update since the 12th religiously, with no results, just the same message, I have the newest update yadda yadda yadda, but I'm sure that Sony is only doing this to make 2.0 even better, perhaps give us a psp 2.3 or better. Remember that we in the US got 1.52 before japan. Keep the morale going, it has to come sometime.

If we can be sure of anything, it's that announcing a floating timeframe means we should expect something at the END of it and not the beginning. It's my bet that this supposed hack mentioned on Engadget that might be the beginnings of Homebrew on 2.0 has prompted the delay.

yea i've been waiting for 2.0 to come out ..but i dont know i think people should just wasit for the American Version

After waiting since august 12 for the U.S update I finally used the japenese version, and it works without no problems. I emailed sony of canada, asking if the japanese version will damage the psp, and if I could upgrade to the U.S version when realeased, and they replied with "no information about the U.S firmware 2.0 released yet, and told me to write to sony of japan, and the warrenty being void crap, if I use it. Well, I say fuck sony of canada, and I bet they dont want us to use it cause the japanese version will be hacked soon!

I'm not sure why this is taking sooo long. everyone is itching for da new firmware but it is yet to come. has anyone contacted sony since i'm not sure what is going on. i have one question though, if we did download the jap version 2.0, how would sony know we have it compared to having the US version?

ITSS SUNDAY 21 10:30 pst, "the week of 15th" so done, and no &$@#%@ sign of 2.0!! what gives?!! nothing on Playstation.com and no luck with the wifi direct update to psp, GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT, AND WHAT WAS PROMISED ... TWICE!
