Update: PSP 2.0 software (US) not ready yet
According to a
mesasage
posted by SCEA on the official PSP message board, the US version of the system 2.0 software update will no be made
available until sometime "during the week of August 15th, instead of on August 12, as previously reported."
Apparently, the patch still needs more time in the oven or something Special thanks to Joystiq user
sparkinator2tuf for alerting us to this announcement. For those hankering for the update, I guess its
going to be a long weekend.

There is, as of yet, no sign of the PSP 2.0 update
Frank @ Dec 18th 2005 10:10PM
Maybe the new version will be 2.1 or higher, maybe thats why they are taking so long, remember how we got 1.52 before japan?
Spencer Burt @ Dec 18th 2005 10:10PM
im not a bluff i have pictures to prove that i got xp pro on my psp i just need someone to tell me how to upload the pictures on here can someone please tell me
David Touve @ Dec 18th 2005 10:10PM
Uploding pictures into comments is not something we do. However, in the upper right hand corner of every screen you will see "Have video game news? Send us tips." Just click on send us tips and forward the photos. Enjoy
Billie @ Dec 18th 2005 10:10PM
spencer burt is such a liar. theres no way he got xp pro onto his PSP. first of all, the PSP's processor is not powerfull enough to run xp and there's no where near enough memory on the bigest stick you can get to put all that stuff on your PSP. If you really did put xp on your PSP, I dont want pictures, I want video of it. if your smart enough to put xp on the PSP you can figure out how to get the video on the net. In fact email me the file, and I'll post it. metroidbob@cheatcc.com
mike @ Dec 18th 2005 10:10PM
lol spencer burt, that has to be one of the crappiest lies ever. like billie said, no way the psp could run xp pro, considering it only has a 333mhz processor and a very very low amount of ram. not only that, howd you get the file system (NTFS) on the memory stick? answer me that
Spencer Burt @ Dec 18th 2005 10:10PM
hey does anybody know if you put the japan 2.0 update on a u.s. psp can you later replace it with the u.s. 2.0 update so that the japan 2.0 isnt even there so it is just the u.s. 2.0 and also if you put the japan 2.0 on u.s. psp will it cause errors or something like that cause when i called sony about when the u.s. 2.0 was going to come out they said not to put the japan 2.0 on a u.s. psp cause it has not been tested or approved by the u.s. sony company but if i put the japan 2.0 on my u.s. psp and it does cause errors or something like that and i can replace the japan 2.0 with the u.s. 2.0 will it fix my errors or what ever the problem was because of puting the japan 2.0 on my u.s. psp does anyone know or if you cant replace it cause it is the same update when they come out with future u.s. updates will it work then or will i have to keep updating my psp with the japan updates cause if everything works fine and it wont ruin my psp and i can replace the japan 2.0 with the u.s. 2.0 then i will do that then when the u.s. 2.0 comes out i will replace it with that and if everything works and i do do that how do you put the file on the psp besides connecting your psp to a usb cable and downloading the file to your computer i know you have to do that but i dont know the rest can someone please tell me
Spencer Burt @ Dec 18th 2005 10:10PM
hey when i run it it runs slow and takes about 20 mins to load to the desktop and i dont use a memory stick i found a way to use an external hard drive that works using a usb port so you plug one end to the psp and the other end goes into the hard drive that is how i had enough memory to do it and have those programs on it and i told you i hacked into the x86 emulator and made it so it would run other wise you would be right that it doesnt have enough requirements to run and if i had a video camera i would make a video and show you but i dont have one only a digital camera unless your smart enough to modd it or something like that to make it do videos just tell me how to put the pictures on here cause thats all i have for now
PsYcHoHaCkEr @ Dec 18th 2005 10:10PM
hey i know someone that works for sony and they said the reason why they delayed it is because someone has already found out how to ply homebrew games on the japan 2.0 update which means that it would work for the u.s. 2.0 update so they delayed it to make it 2.1 instead of 2.0 so people cant play homebrew games but i said that is a stupid reason for delaying it because someone will eventuly find a way to do it on the 2.1 update and they were gonna orignaly make it so you had to buy the web browser but they didnt want people play homebrew games so they decided sience people wernt updating there psp cause there wasent anything worth updating and they new it wouldnt let them play homebrew games that they would includ a free web browser in the next update to give people a reason to update and still would make it so you couldnt play homebrew games thet reason why they dont want people to play homebrew games is not because they dont like them it is because it is pirating and that is illegal and they said to find a way to play homebrew games on the 2.1 is going to be really hard to do cause it install a new file that the update doesnt tell you and when ever you go onto the browser or on the network on your psp sony can see if you have homebrew games on your psp and can erase all of your games and make it so you can only put pictures, music, and psp updates only nothing else

hey everybody listen up i just got off the phone with sony i first called and talked with a guy and i asked him when the u.s. 2.0 psp update was comming out he said he didnt know except that it was comming out some time this week and that it was supposed to come out the 12th but they are adding new things to the update and making sure there are no bugs and stuff then i asked him if it was garanteed to come out this week and he said no even though they said it would come out this week so dont counton it comming out this week i mean it still could but dont assume that its is and i then asked him if i can put the japan 2.0 psp update on my u.s. psp and then when the u.s. 2.0 update comes out if i can install it over the japan 2.0 psp so it is just the u.s. 2.0 update and he said no cause it is the same update but when the u.s. comes out with a newer update after the 2.0 the you will be able to do that and he said if you put the japan 2.0 update on your u.s. psp it might be in a different word format like japanees and that you can put on the u.s. psp but will it harm you psp it could but probably wont and he never said anything about that it will void your warrentee cause there is know why of knowing that you put the japan 2.0 on your u.s. psp cause like he said when they come out with a newer u.s. psp update after 2.0 you can install it over the japan 2.0 update and wont show that you put the japan 2.0 update on your u.s. psp then i called back again and a lady answered and i saked the same question i asked the guy which was when the u.s. 2.0 psp update was going to come out and she said sometime this week and then i aksed her if it was garenteed to come out this week and she said that if they said it was going to come out this week then it will so they both said something different so dont plan on the update comming out this week but that it still could but just dont get your hopes up.

did you know that when you play multiplayer in adhoc mode you can make it so only one person needs the the umd game to play so its kindof like gamesharing in a way but it is a hack if anyone wants to know how to do this post a message saying you do.
GreenMage @ Dec 18th 2005 10:10PM
K, spencer, stop making shit up. The nearest thing to XP on a psp is WinPSPortal (http://winpsportal.com/), and there is no real transfer protocol to move data from UMD to other psp's virtual memory OR memory stick. Not only that, but if it were possible to transfer games through Ad-Hoc, it would be impractical. Average PSP game is 300MB, moving at 11Mbit/s (1.375 MB/s) it would take 3hrs and 38min to move the game to only ONE other PSP.
d3c1u5 @ Dec 18th 2005 10:10PM
well, to the guy complaining about the dead pixels in no. 20... did you ever think that maybe the reason it seems like PSPs are junk(due to dead pixels), is because all the people who post things like... "My PSP has dead pixels" have them, and you never get to hear from the rest of us with perfect PSPs? Did it ever dawn on you that the reason you dont see many posts like, "My PSP is perfectly fine... no dead pixels here." is because we are too busy playing our "good" PSPs? No, of course you didn't... why would you? I mean, when all those 13-14 year olds are telling you what you should think. Why would a person need to, I dont know, Go to a store, and actually look at one. (WOAH...bare with me here bro) Maybe, and Im just, ya know, tossin ideas out... catch any that come your way, cool? Maybe you could find a person with a PSP, and see how it works. Hey, maybe read one of the hundreds of thousands of posts about how if you get it from Wal-Mart, you can return it "NO QUESTIONS ASKED". I mean, how would you be able to comprehend such a difficult task? The whole, not condemning a product before you have used one. Well, hey... it's cool. Dont get a PSP... dont have a handheld gaming system with amazing graphics, multimedia support, very hacker friendly software/hardware, and unbelievable amounts of 3rd party support. You can sit at home and play games. Oh, and if you are on the go... ya know... maybe not going to Wal-Mart to buy your "re-assured" PSP... then you could just get a backpack and toss your PS2 in it... then carry a TV... and a stack of your favorite games. Then you can be just like us... Oh wait. Don't forget your Cd player, and your favorite CDs, Oh and how bout a DVD player to top off your own Portable gaming system. There ya go genious. dont you feel great? Hey, look at the bright side... You are bound to lose a few pounds carryin all that junk around. Man, I wish I had the incredible foresight you did. I mean, I actually bought a PSP. OH WOE... WOEEEEE IS ME. WHY DID YOU TEMPT ME CRUEL FATE? HOW COULD YOU MAKE ME BUY THIS PSP?!
I guess the journey does not auger well for me dear freinds... thank you guy who posted in no. 20... for setting me straight... Man i feel like a complete idiot now... How can I ever thank you for your blissful ignorance.
Your dear friend,

Am I the ONLY one who's realized that 2.0 doesn't slam the door in the face of homebrew, it opens it welcomingly... The word of the day, folks, is JAVA... The new browser supports JAVA... So program your apps in JAVA and save em in HTML format... No more "loaders" and all that junk, just pure programming goodness! Now stop your whining, upgrade to 2.0 and start enjoying it today...
Thomas @ Dec 18th 2005 10:10PM
Well, Sony has about 3 1/2 hours to drop 2.0 before they've exceeded their "business week of 8/15/05" guarantee of release. Still no signs of it on the site. Sony is really beginning to piss me off with this delay. If you're gonna drop it August 22nd or September 1st, just say so! Im sick of the constant cycle of checking online every day and checking the Network Update on my PSP. Get your act together, Sony.
Jin Kazama @ Dec 18th 2005 10:10PM
Anyways, i've installed jap 2.0 firmware update on my US PSP. It is working....properly! I could browse the internet, check my email and so on...I feel compelled to update it again once so called Ver. 2.0 landed North America. Stop your whining and install the Jap version!
Gianni Gotti @ Dec 18th 2005 10:10PM
It better have more features than the Japanese version to justify the wait.
If they pull this isht with the PS3 I will be making a donation to Bill$ college fund.

I got something to say, I love nintendo but let's be clear the ds has no chance against the psp, I mean those $250 us dollars are the best spend money ever, MP3,Movies,Games,wireless play,Internet connection, photos for just 250 while the ds is NOT ONLY uncomfortable but has 50% smaller screen and no sound at all and all the games are really crappy....

its a free update, it doesnt matter how much you want it, ITS FREE. they dont even have to release it if they dont want to
so be patient, god it was this bad when everyone wanted the new wab loaders and everything
people make such a big deal over FREE software that they dont realise they are getting something for nothing and should just deal with delays
Thomas @ Dec 18th 2005 10:10PM
I called Thursday and the woman on the phone guaranteed a release by the end of the business week. I verified the definition of a Business Week and she agreed that it would be available by 5pm Friday. What a joke Sony is.

An "open letter" to Sony... [professional criticism on 2.0]
Sure, I know that "no one officially connected to Sony" ever reads any of the threads like this one (wink, wink), but I have to get this off my chest.
We all have gripes ranging from displeasure to outright hostility regarding the North American release of the latest firmware package. I have refrained from piling on and tried to appreciate the difficulties of running a large multi-national corporation. However, you [Sony] have handled this growing debacle with amateur-ish mismanagement and/or total disregard for your consumers.
I am a support technician; not only that, I am often involved in the testing of software, hardware, and firmware before AND after it is released to my company's consumers. I am intimately familiar with the coordination [or lack thereof] and the pressurefrustration that goes with corporate deadlines versus the reality of technological development.
Marketing departments often open their mouths before consulting the engineers or simply push for a hard-date [often TOO SOON] to release to the media- disregarding the chaos created by hightened expectations, the public's anticipation, and the disruption to the development process. The public does not understand these conflicts- they only know that you "missed" a deadline. Sometimes, these situations can affect the stock price of the company- which hurts everyone.
Given ALL of this understanding that I have for your situation- you [Sony] went far beyond merely 'dropping the ball'. First, you not only missed the first date, but you didn't release any information to the media about the delay until close to the end of the day [major marketing mistake]. Then, to give a second release date, but dodge the 'bullet' by suggesting a 'release WEEK'- could have been a brilliant save... IF YOU HAD MET THE DATE. Once again, no official word BEFORE the deadline to stem the tide of negative press.
You are eroding any confidence your consumers have in your ability to service their needs and meet their expectations. You may have a great product, but none of that matters if the perception of your company is negative, or worse- incompotent.
Please, Sony- refrain from the urge to 'wow' and 'dazzle' the media or upstage the competition; simply SERVE YOUR CUSTOMERS with integrity and consistency. The majority of us simply want that 'warm, fuzzy feeling' after our purchase; this comes from feeling satisfied that we bought a good product. You ruin that satisfaction everytime you say "wait, there's more!", but don't follow through on the promise.
Sincerely,
A Disappointed Customer

Well, 71,77 (A.K.A. "donut") The fact of the matter is, it may be a free update, but Sony has lied to us twice now about release dates and all of us are getting pretty pissed of, and aparently you are too, or you wouldnt have been interested in finding out when it will be released. Sony gave us a date, which we waited for, then at the end of that day they tell us to wait until the week of the fifteenth, which was pretty annoying. Then at the end of the promised time frame, the only people with PSP 2.0, are the people stupid enough to void their warranty for the japanese version, leaving us honest people in the dust. Meanwhile, some of us have become pretty fed up with Sony, and we really dont need any of your shit, ALRIGHT? there are enough f*cking stuck up pricks in this world to give us a hard time, and we certainly dont need any more, in our forums giving us more shit. so butt the hell out of what we are doing, and go kick a ball, dipshit.

I updated with the all region 2.0 back when it first came out, and have been enjoying web browsing on the psp ever since. On the bookmarks tab of the bowser, there is a link to the psp website, with only Japan and Korea being usable. As of aboout an hour ago, North America is selectable, leading me to assume that 2.0 is ready for U.S. PSP's. Just thought you guys would like to know.
