Kid Icarus revival resurfaces on DS
Fake or not, this image is another example of the growing interest in a Kid Icarus sequel. Recent rumors have suggested that Icarus might be shedding
the "Kid" and landing his way onto the Revolution. But perhaps a DS installment is also in the works…
Which format—Revolution or DS—would you most like to see an Icarus revival on?

looks pretty legit, but quality fakes are a dime a dozen these days.
CapAmerica @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
My gut says its fake, But if its fake its a pretty impressive fake, a good deal of time must have gone into making it.
I never got into the Kid Icarus games, but if they were to bring it back they should do both platforms. Just like what they did for Metroid.

It's fake, If you notice the LED Light that is on is the indicator for wall plug, letting you know that the DS is charging. The Green light which is the light on the far right is off, meaning no power, if no power then that would mean no picture but there is a picture, conculsion fake.
Lesbian Ham @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Fake.
Either photoshopped, or the person somehow managed to get a picture on both screens to take a photo. Look at the character, the guys shooting an arrow (or something), and the photo-taker's hands are not on the console.
Now how the hell do you shoot an arrow with no hands? (mic? doubt it)

Too bad if it is a fake, it looks pretty swanky. I would totally dig a new Kid Icarus for either system. It was one of my favorite NES games
axellus @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
It's fake. You can't score without hands right?
Oh, and that is a mockup from this guy:

Can I get one for each system?
Mo @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Never played Icarus (NES was never very big in the UK): can someone explain what it's all about?
who'supforsmoothies @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Some wierd angel guy shoots stuff with arrows.
(Never played it either, Mo) Looks pretty sweet though.
chaoflux @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
man, that sucks, I was ready to believe.
huge disappointment.
I hate you hoaxers!
Mo @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Yeah, it does look pretty sweet and yeah, these hoaxers really do get on my tits.
Why can't these people find a job to occupy their time instead of teasing us like girls playing hard to get?
amiga_tone @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Okay the question was:
"Which format—Revolution or DS—would you most like to see an Icarus revival on?"
My answer would be to see the usual linkup of both systems. Kid Icarus on the DS which allows you to unlock levels and weapons AND allows you to venture into the revolution world of his/her big brother Icarus.
Hey the GBA did a good linkup job with the CUBE (Four swords, Harry and the egg game (whatever it was called), Pokemon, Sonic...) so I can't see why it can't be done successfully with this game.
Imagine having the 2D game on the DS and when linked up to the revolution you can download some 3d maps or just upload your character status to the Rev and play 3D.

Lots of games, if you let the title screen sit long enough, go into a computer-controlled demo of the game. So the hands don't need to be on the DS.
The power light, though, probably means this is a fake.
Grant Watson @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Definitely DS - I like the retro platforming vibe.

"Some wierd angel guy shoots stuff with arrows.

A lot has been lost with Gen-Y.
It's the myth of Daedalus & Icarus
Icarus from Crete by constructing wings and then flying to safety. He built the wings from feathers and wax, and before the two set off he warned Icarus not to fly too low lest his wings touch the waves and get wet, and not too high lest the sun melt the wax. But the young Icarus, overwhelmed by the thrill of flying, did not heed his father's warning, and flew too close to the sun whereupon the wax in his wings melted and he fell into the sea.

IcarusMyth, that's bullshit. The game had nothing to do with the Icarus myth, aside from featuring a dude with wings. Shit, the character in the game wasn't even called Icarus, he was called Pit. The Icarus thing was a marketing conceit and nothing more.

fake or not, this has got me way more excited than any Revolution fakes, PS3 in-game shots, Bigfoot sightings etc etc in the past few months. I bloody love Kid Icarus. The gameboy version was so brilliantly involving and atmospheric, and was a joy to play through again and again. I always rated Kid Icarus higher than metroid - I just enjoyed that whole mythological theme, I guess.
Sincerely hope that Nintendo thinks about giving us Kid Icarus DS!

And to the IcarusMyth I say
Up The Irons
FLIGHT OF ICARUS!!!

I would say its 100% fake unless he planned on doing something with it. It was a contest that a bunch of pixel artist did. Remaking old school games or something like that. The message board that that picture originally appeared at is down. I doubt he made it just to get people riled up. I knew when I saw that picture it looked famaliar.
I know that was the case with the "Kid Icarus GBA mockups"
Now if the jokester really wanted to get people's attention he shoulda.... wait. I'll do that and trick people instead. :)
