I have to say I feel the launch games could be stronger, save for gears of war and ghostrecon 3, to me those are what I want to buy the system for.

1. Dead or Alive 4
2. Ninety-Nine Nights
3. Quake 4
4. Final Fantasy XI
5. Ridge Racer 6
6. Burnout: Revenge
7. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
8. [eM] -eNCHANT arM-
9. Tony Hawk's American Wasteland
10. Amped 3

I have no faith in Rare Games. Their last few games have been so-so at the most. Conker wasn't that bad, but come on it was the same thing I played on the N64, just a better looking version and Multi-player sucked hardcore. And don't even get me started on Grabbed by the Ghoulies. And there GBA games... I have a good feeling Perfect Dark 0 will be a Average game at best but no where near a system seller, and Kameo... I just have no hope for it at all, Its been in development waaaay to long. Rare is a has been company in my book, I think MS is being real risky by relieing to much on Rare's games. They really should have created a Halo2 SE.

I'll probably buy the new Madden, hopefully this is the reason they really didn't update the one for the Xbox.

And I'll probably pickup Perfect Dark and launch...

After that, I'll be waiting for HALO3 and Gears of War, I might pickup Tom Clany's game too, just have to wait and see the reviews.

None of these games appeal to me. I want something that looks and feels fresh. I'm just tired of all these sequels and rehashes. Better graphics just doesn't cut it with me anymore. I have no interest in PS3 or Xbox 360 - my last hope will be the Revolution. I want something new.

How about Sequel 99 or A-Game-We-Already-Played 56...or even Also-Run 23?

If you are not going to give me original games, you can keep your new hardware!

The expected 360 launch titles are about 4/5 sequels of some sort. I'm not saying anything thats a sequel is bad, but almost all the sequels (or prequels) shown so far look cookie cutter with enhanced graphics compared to the last iteration of the series.

With that said, the only 2 launch titles that interest me (but definitely not nearly enough to get a 360) are, in order, kameo and ninety-nine nights.

I'm not a big fan of sequels myself, but at least PGR3 is packing a whole bunch of new features, including the very exciting Gotham TV, in it completely transforming the gaming experience from PGR2. For racing fans like myself this game will easily be the top launch title.

I spent a few hours on eBay this weekend debating whether or not to get a used SNES console so I can play Super Metroid (I've never played it). I decided in the end to wait until the Revolution comes out next year so I can play a hopefully updated version on the new console.

What I'm getting at is that I just don't find today's PS2 and Xbox games very appealing. I'm spending the majority of my gaming time playing my DS and GCN, and I'll be 31 this year.

Am I growing young?

I'm really surprised that Oblivion isn't higher on this list (from the article, and from the comments here). This, along with N3 have the 'burden' of deciding the fate of the RPG on the Xbox and in years to come.

In my opinion, the golden age of the RPG was way back in SNES days: Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana were so incredibly good. I enjoyed my share of the old FF's, too, but after 7, it become more of a semi-interactive movie than anywhere near a true RPG. Then you have some of the PC RPGs that were somewhat about the same time (Ultima!!!)

There have been some good games here and there since then, but I'd really like to see some solid RPGs that really take a lot of time to "beat", much like a good book. The most engaging books usually take quite a long time to fully read and appreciate - something that captures you into the story, makes you feel like you're the main character.

Oblivion definitely has the ability to do this, if they take the same elements as Morrowind.

Of course, it would help them even more if they incorporated a way to track what you've done with plot items.. I sold something in Morrowind that I now need, and I never marked where I sold it!

The Elder Scrolls games aren't sequels in the way we normally think of them - it's not just the latest iteration with a couple of new features and prettier graphics ala Everything 2006. If Oblivion is as much of a leap forward as Morrowind then that's the title that might convince me to be an early adopter, otherwise i'll be waiting til the price drops.

Christophe,

Well, I plan on getting the PC version anyway, to be honest, but as a whole, I think it still plays an important part on how future development of RPGs will go.
Obviously, it's not going to have Halo sales numbers. It probably won't have the same numbers as PGR3 or even Burnout.

Being that it's a launch title, that's going to help its sales numbers a LOT. If they can keep a decent pace through the end of the year, I have high hopes that other developers are gonna say "Hey look, there's nothing wrong with making a good RPGs -- get to work!"

It may cause us to have some truly abysmal titles, but eventually the 'survival of the fittest' will kick in, and we'll see a decent amount of quality RPGs. I look forward to it.

Not a very impressive list I have to admit.Looks like they are betting on safe cards ie sequels. I dont know if that is the way to show how fresh and NEW the next-gen is. I saw clips of a game called The Darkness by starbreeze and published by Majesco. It looked quite promising, and if they succeed with the gameplay like with Riddick, then I think we have a possible hit in our hands. Dunno if that game is scheduled for a launch with the xbox360 though, but I sure do hope so.

I have decided to buy 2 or 3 launch games. WHile not sure of what they will be, I know it will included Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Others I may get included Project Gotham Racing 3 and possibly DoA 4.

I will not get any FPS unless they support mouse and keyboard. I learnt my lesson from the original XBOX, FPS with control pads are horrible. You cannot break a habit that existed since Arena and Doom.

But here are my top 10 none the less lol:

The Outfit
Saints Row
Kameo: Elements of Power
Perfect Dark Zero
Gun
(thouse are the ones I will likely buy)
(and here are the other 5)
Call of Duty 2
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
Project Gotham Racing 3
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland

Those arent the only titles for launch, they are Joystiq's Top 10 Most Important Titles.

Perfect Dark Zero is going to be phenominal if it's anything like the original.I really can't believe noone thinks Full Auto looks fun as hell.I never really cared for the Ghost Recon series or the Project Gotham Racing series but this time around the games look pretty cool and fun so it's a good chance i'll be checking them out. Kameo looks pretty cool, something not so serious and just pick up to have some fun in a fantasy world. Elder Scrolls Oblivion will be insane if it's anything like Morrowind.Just the sheer size and freedom the game allows makes it have a sense of an actual living world.

I'll limit my launch scope to 5 titles, although the reality will probably be 3 games or less (especially if the games are set for a $60 price tag)...

1. Quake IV
2. Dead or Alive 4
3. Ridge Racer 6
4. Top Spin 2
5. Full Auto

As for Rare, call me silly, but I actually enjoyed Grabbed by the Ghoulies. I sort of wish they'd conjur up a sequel, but I know there's no way in hell that's going to happen.

I guess I'll have to settle with Gears of War, Fatal Frame 4, and Resident Evil 5 to deliver my horrific cravings... *sigh*

But seriously, the launch outlook is a bit slim on the pickings. At least the 360 comes with NEON built in, so I can put myself in a Llamasoft induced coma when I need to.

Xbox 360 better come out along with some new games, that no one has ever heard of. I'm sick of these sequels for other games. I didn't even get madden 06 this year, because I already have 04, and 05. It's just getting boring. I need something new. This is a revolution of a new system. Microsoft needs to start making new games, or else they're not getting my money.

That'd be pretty sweet if they came out with a game like dynasty warriors... with a good side and a bad side. And the object is to take over the world with one side, by defeating the other. But seriously, we need new games period

That's it, guys.

I told you so many months ago.

These guys want the safest way to steal your money.

Many top managers at game publishers used to work for Kraft Foods and P&G. For them, it's all about marketing and nothing about creativity and originality.

They are going to the golden goose faster than they can count their money.

Better graphics is expected and normal, that won't cut it.

Online gameplay was introduced to consoles by Xbox and nothing they do in that domain is going to be revolutionary at this point.

So, take risks or die.

Wrong. Playstation 2 and Gamecube had planned that already, even if Microsoft "perfected" it. Also, dreamcast had it before those two. And before Dreamcast, the 64DD in the Nintendo 64 Disk Drive (for japan). And before that, the Saturn had its Modem and keyboard too. But the first one to include online, was the Famicom Disk System, an attachment for the first nintendo... yes, it sounds weird. But I found that on Wikipedia. Someone tell me if I'm wrong at that. But yeah, there have been too many online attempts before the Xbox in consoles. It just happens that Microsoft has the infrastructure that Nintendo and Sony don't. But it's pretty expensive, compared to Nintendo's upcoming free online service.

i dunno what all the bitchings about, i think the line-ups great, most of the major genres are represented, and since MS is targetign the average gamer thats all that (I think) will matter when it comes down to the amount of systems they sell come christmas.

At launch I'll be getting:

Perfect Dark Zero: This is the make or break for Rare (not the 360, THIS is why MS wanted Rare, if they don't deliver...) I am however optimistic, I do have some faith in Rare.

Oblivian: Simlly put, this looks to be the best western-stlye RPG ever made, if you played morrowind, if you like thief, magic, and martrial skills, and combinations thereof, if you like free-form gameplay, don't believe me take 15min and research it, you'll be amazed. Definetly one of the reasons I'll be gettign a 360. (my computer sux)

Toss-Up: 99-Nights / DOA4

I'll proably go with NNN, though, it's origianl, and the trailor that I saw for i looked pretty impressive

oh and to those bitching about original content, please do research b4 claiming to have any idea about what you're talking about, check some of these out: Blue Dragon, Theseis, Lost Odyssey, Shadowclan, eNCHANT arM, and Chrome Hounds, not enough u say? u want sequels to best-selling games that were system sellers on XB1? Okay, we've got sequels to Quake, Doom, Halo, KOTOR, Jade Empire, and Fable.

MS is doing an excellent job this time around, i'll be gettign a 360 and Rev for sure, and if the PS3 EVER becomes affordable (rolls eyes) or gets some REALLY good, can't miss otherwise you don't get pop culture references in the future, games (i'll worry more about this when the system launchs) i may actually buy one too, but by then i could be worrying about triple-xbox...

batman,

1) Take a spelling course.
2) Put down your rose-tainted glasses, they don't suit you.

You know as well as we do sequels are the easy way for publishers to cash in.

No way I am going to play DOA again.
There is nothing they can add to make it interesting.

The new Quake will just be another dark game from id. I watched some game footage and I could not see anything because it was so dark. Apparently, that's how id implements anti-aliasing.

Fable was utter crap. I couln't care less about a sequel to that thing.

KOTOR? Heck, I fell asleep playing the second one because I kept thinking "I already played this last year...didn't I play this last year?"...

Jade Empire = KOTOR in China...same gameplay mechanics...same old tricks...bored after 2 hours...

Doom...yuck...talk about repetitive and completely unoriginal gameplay...dumber than that is not possible...

And this has nothing to do with Nintendo or Sony, BTW.
Sony and Nintendo are re-hashing the same franchises just as much.

So, I'll buy PDZ and Oblivion. They can keep the rest.

If you are 15 or below 15, I understand you can be pleased with all those sequels. Because, maybe, they are new to you.
For those who, like me, have been playing for the past 20 years, this is old old old and is getting older every year. Sorry, I can't get excited about sequels anymore.

For everyone who said..."they won't get my money" I bet they are crying about that. 1 person down about 2-2.5 million to go. And if you have a problem with the launches, they don't care so why even whine about it. There are also a good 10 that are not sequels. If you are above 15 20 and even in this place....you need to get a job and if you have one then you need friends. I like Oblivion, DOA4, Perfect Dark, Full Auto, Blue Dragon,[EM] Enchant-Arm, and some others. Seriously though stop whining you won't get a thing done.
