It's been a good few days since we've heard a good Revolution rumor, but we may get some actual facts in the weeks
to come. IGN's Matt Casamassina, whom I respect for being pretty much unbiased in his Nintendo coverage (critical and
loving of the hand that feeds him), has made a few interesting remarks in his recent mailbags. I'm sure he gets a dozen
e-mails every day about Revolution news, but in Monday's edition he
answered that we will receive more information "shortly after
the Leipzig Games Convention. I don't have an exact time frame - it could be a day or a week, but I don't expect it
will be much longer." The next day, he stated that he "wouldn't
call it a guess." So, in other words, he knows something, and hopefully we will soon. Because nothing else drives
speculation and rumors like actual facts.
The Leipzig Games Convention ends this sunday, so maybe we could find out something new as soon as this Monday -
wouldn't that be a great way to start the week?
New Revolution information coming soon?

I'm almost expecting to be let down by what the revolutionary feature is, but I'm sure it'll still be fun... it's Nintendo after all.

Considering that the Revo will most certainly come in at least $100 cheaper then the 360 and with 20+ plus years of backward compatability at its disposal its already pretty darn revolutionary.
Even at "only" 480p and "only" 4-5 times as powerful as the GC graphics should be on par with deep blue er I mean PS3 & the 360.

hopefully we'll get a price quote, I'm sure as hell not paying $400-$700 for a full system (console, a few games, & acessories) so I can play upgraded rehash (PSP, anyone?).

If you've read buzzcut - Nintendo versus everyone, the business of business, this thread is along the same lines but fleshed out more on the strategy side of Nintendo's business.

This "news" may as well be the actual name for the "revolution". Don't expect much. Nintendo can't risk having its ideas stolen by Sony, or M$FT

I think Nintendo knows it's getting more buzz and anticipation by NOT syaing anything. Though staying silent for too long may hurt them, I think untill Sony releases more info Nintendo won't be in any hurry...

I just read on tomshardware that Nintendo will CHARGE you for all the NES/SNES/N64 games. Anyone have any info of this? Seems to me that if Sony or Microsoft's backwards compatability was based on this model everyone would be screaming bloody murder. How is it that Nintendo fans are embracing this? "Hey, I already own the game, but I'd love for you to charge me to play it again on my new uber cool system!" Don't flame me, I'm no Nintendo hater. I actually own the 3 aforementioned systems, but this seems a little audacious to me...

How would Nintendo go about providing PHYSICAL b/c to play NES, SNES and N64 games on your Rev console short of putting 3 separate cartridge slots on the console itself as well as 3 very different chipsets inside?
If you already possess, say, a SNES and Super Mario World you may not be interested in downloading said game for play on Rev. In which case the service doesn't apply to you and there is no compulsion for you to play the games you already own in emulation on Rev.
I don't have any games or systems from the NES, SNES and N64 era and would love to play those classics again on a high quality widescreen TV. Some games, late in the N64's life-cycle, I just didn't get to play at all such as Excitebike 64 but which I would like to play on Rev.
I'm sure too, that for many other PAL territory gamers like me, there is also the issue that virtually all SNES games were not optimised for the PAL format ie they were running on 50hz TV signals and a letterboxed format rather than being full-screen and running at 60hz.
I have no desire whatsoever to hunt down foreign games/systems, have it shipped to the UK, use a step-down transformer etc etc. I'd rather wait for the Rev download service and, reasonable costs permitting, I can choose from a large library of classic games optimised for todays widescreen TV format, downloaded from one convenient, central and user-friendly interface (or so we hope).
What we're, therefore, paying for is the "SERVICE" costs associated with coding games from the aforementioned systems in emulation for download, play and storage via the Nintendo Wi-Fi service.

Otam, how so? What's wrong with #15's post? They're right - The reason Nintendo isn't showing the Revolution's controller is so that neither Sony nore Microsoft steals their ideas. What's wrong with that? You look back at the N64, which was the first system to have the currently-used joystick and rumblepack. Now Sony and Microsoft have joysticks and rumblepacks. Nintendo wants the credit they deserve.
How is that stupidity at an all time high?

And don't try hurting my E-feelings over the internet, I'm not going to pull myself down to your level and respond.
Getting back on topic, the Nintendo will charge for the back catalog of games (Seriously, why would they just give all of them away for free?), but they stated numerous times that they will be very cheap, this deal won't be profit driven, so expect the highest you pay for a game to be somewhere in 10-15$, and thats for a high quality N64 game.

thats still too much.
I'm of the opinion that nintendo is going to sell game "packs", I.E. a single package for all NES games for such and such amount.
(like 49.99 for all the NES games, 20 bux more and you get the SNES games...)
But thats just me, I guess we will see what they do. At 10$ a game, I think thats too expensive, for a backlog, especially a 20 year old one. And Im sure Nintendo is on the same lines. They wont want you spending 700$ on the Rev just to play a few of the backlog, they want you to have it all.

Hey dipshit, if you're gonna say my opinion is stupid, at least explain why.
Both the analog sticks and the rumble features have been copied by Sony and M$FT. And online gaming in consoles was also innovated by nintendo (yes, nintendo, in the famicom disk system that was sold only in japan). It also came out first for 64 (disk drive) than in any playstation or in Xbox. Even for Dreamcast it came out earlier than for PS2 or Xbox (Even if Xbox Live was "perfected", not because they were original, because they had an infrastructure, and because they're losing money on it anyway). Halo is great fun, but it's nothing I haven't seen before.
But of course, maybe you're the typical sony/xbox fanboy that doesn't know anything about the history of gaming, or am I wrong, you moron?

It would be cool if the Nintendo Revolution could be expanded with stackable modules that would provide the physical front end to each of the emulated system (ie NES module would have a cartridge slot, and matching NES controller ports/etc.) The intent here is the ability to play all your old games the already own with the controller intended for it. Although you could also allow the Revolution's standard wireless controller to be used....
Pipe dream but could be cool....

Nobody copied anyone else. Ideas will be adopted regardless of what company makes them.
It's like saying the PS2 copied the Xbox by having a harddrive in it because the Xbox did it first. If they had such an idea that couldnt be touched then they would have a patent on it.
The creators of these consoles don't all sit around a computer going "Let's check around on Nintendo's website because Nintendo is God and we want to steal all their ideas".
Give me a break.

You're very stupid. Let's examine this: let's say I make a movie:
A giant rock on a collision course with earth, and only a team of wacky but genius specialists can stop it. I'm going to call it, oh, I don't know...
RAGNAROK
I'm certainly in no way copying the (why) blockbuster film Armageddon. I'm adopting an idea.
PLEASE, PLEASE, for the sake of the children, do not breed.
That is all. Please, everyone else, continue the discussion.

On the other hand, you ended your comment with "not!", thereby invalidating anything you say. Wayne's World is more than a decade past. Let it go.

Dammit, I want Revolution info.
I'm tired of all the dipshits who claim to have "insider" info. *cough*RevPatentLeaker*cough*
I'm tired of all the XBox/Sony fanboys who claim Nintendo is doomed to a Sega because of a lack of high-def support.
And most of all, I'm tired of the hype in general. I think Nintendo planned to let the hype grow from its silence, but I will start to lose faith in Nintendo's plans if they wait too much longer. The hype and rumors will soon grow out of control, and the many gullible Nintendo fanboys will be disappointed when the Revolution doesn't include a headset virtual reality. The most it's going to be is a few different functions of the controller that nobody thought to bring to video games. This probably sounds really lame to anyone who's been suckered into following every Revolution rumor on the net, but that's all it is. It sounds really cool to me, because I think rationally about it, but it's no Nintendo ON.
Just imagine, instead of two joystiqs (hehe) and a D-pad to control your character, you might be able to hold your controller like a gun. Not only is that different from current FPS controls, but it's far more intuitive. (Okay, to look around, use this joystick, to move use that one, to shoot press A, to throw a grenade, press B, to reload, press X, to use secondary ..... ARRRRGGGHH!!) Nintendo is right: learning the controls of games right now is far too complicated to allow for any non-dedicated new gamer to start gaming.
I'm looking forward to a new and interesting control set. XBox and Sony fanboys, have fun with your rehashed FPS' and ever-growing number of buttons (and boomerangs). I'll be having fun with Nintendo innovation.

#29, you seem to lack some common sense. Of course, "Nobody copied", since the analog stick that N64 had, and the Rumble Pack, memory card to the controller, four controller capablity, etc. are not the same devices that the Xbox uses, for example. They're "slightly" different.
But if they would have revealed all the exclusive features anytime before their competitors launched their consoles, their ideas would have been "stolen"/"copied".
Which means: Sony/M$FT would try to install a similar device on their consoles so that nintendo no longer has the upper hand in innovation.
1. Nintendo had analog and rumble features-------> Sony did the dual shock, and dreamcast came out with analog stick. The PS2 controller now vibrates too, also the Xbox controller.
2. Nintendo made the mistake of revealing that it would add "analog buttons" to its controller, so the Xbox "copied" it. By the time Xbox came out, Gamecube didn't have such an innovative controller (Even if it's much more comfy and smaller), since the ideas were stolen (as usual) by M$FT.
3. Nintendo did the wavebird, the first time 1st party does a wireless controller. Guess what happened next? PS3 and 360 have those features. Not like they "stole" it, but nintendo would have been smarter to wait for that until Revo. (To be copied again later)
The list goes on, you dolt. I hope that now you understand what "copying/stealing" ideas means. (You know, it's a metaphore, get it?)
P.S.: Playstation didn't "copy" the hard disk included for Xbox, it was already planned before, since FFXI required it, and we all know that FFXI is (or was) a PS exclusive. And guess what? Nintendo had ALSO done that before in 1994 (the hard drive thingy), for Killer Instinct on Arcade.

I just don't understand the people that can't see Nintendo's influence. Tremendous influence. Sony and Microsoft basically have Sony and Microsoft flavored Nintendo controllers. Nintendo has been driving this whole industry forward. There was going to be a crash in the early 80's. Nintendo revived it. Remember the 3D-era. It only became popular after Nintendo released their revolutionary Nintendo 64. Super Mario 64 was an absolute influential game. Not just for platformers. But for every 3-D game that came after it. I've done extensive research on Nintendo and the game industry. And people seem to be forgetting someone. Shigeru Miyamoto. Miyamoto is to interactive entertainment as Einstein was to Science. Or Picasso was to painting. This "new-age" of videogames happened after Miyamoto joined Nintendo. Miyamoto practically turned Nintendo into the videogame powerhouse it is today, and still is today, regardless of what others say. Miyamoto's influence is seen everywhere. He's in his mid-50's, so I wish him best health. God knows we need him and Nintendo. Especially now.
