The 30 days free trial is nice, although I doubt a lot of people with existing accounts will be able to get the free 30 days.

I just hope there are some freebies in the arcade at launch.

Aren't the wired controllers obviously USB, their are 3 USB ports on the 360 and nowhere else to connect controllers.

And I believe the headset plugs directly into the controller, so if the controller is PC compatible, I guess the headset would be too.

Sounds like damage control to me. I wonder if they can be sued for that? I'll ask Jack Thompson...

According to the little chart both the core and system will come with wireless controllers. Thats gotta be a mistake.

Also, what the heck is that thing in the bottom right corner of every page? Looks like some sort of remote control or something. It is a wierd looking thing though.

Okay after looking at the prices I am absolutely shocked. I am Canadian and these prices will be higher for me.

50 bucks american for a Wireless controller!? ARE THEY JOKING? Look how much a Wavebird costs. I understand it doesn't have a rechargeable battery, but in that case look how much a GBASP costs with it's rechargeable battery and its a full out game system. Not that much more eh? 100 bucks for the wireless adapter? 20 bucks for a personalized faceplate? The sad thing is that people will actually buy these faceplates to be "unique".

This is the first time I won't be able to afford a console at launch. I wonder how bad it will be for the PS3.

no chance of me getting a 360 anytime soon, but I may pick up one of the controllers for some PC play. Will be a good controller for PoP or racing games.

We all know the Revolution will be cheaper than anything else offered. But I have a sneaking suspicion that sony's console will debut for $299.99 to $399.99 and no more. It would be a real kick in the face to Microsoft. The fact of the matter is no one really knows how much it costs Sony to build a console and how much they are willing to lose on each one. Don't listen to analysts...they haven't the slightest clue what they are talking about...most of the time they just regurgitate what they are told. And because Sony had a big hand in developing both the Cell and the Blu-Ray technology, you can bet they are willing to take a hit on those items to get an install base.

Anyone else notice that the wireless controller operates at 2.4 Ghz? Isn't their a huge chance of problems, given the near saturation of the 2.4 Ghz spectrum?

You're absolutely right. I think the smart money is in listening to anonymous internet posters instead.

Fuzz: The contolers use "Frequency hopping" so it won't be a problem. The controller switches frequencies hundreds of times per second and scans for blocked frequencies or ones that are already in use. It then skips over those while it continues to "hop" through the others that are not in use.

Yeah, 2.4ghz is a broad category. That's like saying just because you live on Spooner Street, no one else can.

But the hopping thing is news to me... Let me just say WOW to that... I REALLY see there being drops that result in a bad turn for a moment, frustrated gamers, then broken controllers. Maybe that's their plan, since its FIFTY FUCKING DOLLARS for a controller. How completely fucking rediculous is that?!? And they expect you to buy 3 more of those? So $150 on top of the Xbox costs.

See, I thought wireless was a horrible idea the second it left MS and Sony's mouth. Sony can eat my asshole if they plan on charging similar prices for the PS3 controllers. There better be a wired alternative for $20-25, otherwise I'm afraid I'll be buying some Pelican controllers come next gen.

#21, sony plans on using bluetooth, which should not have problems with bumping into other channels, let's just hope the speed of the bluetooth connection is quick enough. And yes, 2.4 ghz spectrum is a big mistake

Actually, calvin, Bluetooth also uses the 2.4GHz frequency. So surely that's a sign that wireless standards can co-exist on the same frequencies?

i guess i'm just super confused on how the 2.4ghz spectrum operates and how the bluetooth spectrum operates. I've had problems when I had 2 logitec controllers plugged in at the same time. And it suck if that was the case with the new systems.

Calvinhobbes: No Logitech doens't use frequency hopping. Actually no wireless controller for the Xbox does that I know of. That was part of the setback of wireless- you lost performance. Both the 360 and PS3 will use wireless technologies that will eliminate these problems. M$'s answer was to use the frequency scanning/hopping technology, while Sony's answer was to use Blutooth (which is 2.4GHz as well just with some fancy encryption). So neither of these consoles should have problems interfereing with your other devices in your home. The setback of Blutooth is that it IS slower as info is sent in encrypted "packets".

It's funny that they give you a 30 day trial of xbl gold on the core system and they have on the brochure that the memory card or hard drive is required for xbl play.. but the core system comes with neither..

ooh yeah.. it's to screw the gamer out of more money

Wait... according to all the text in this... xbox live silver doesn't allow you to play games online. It just lets you connect so you can talk to people... xbox live gold says you can compete with friends and such, but xbox live silver says nothing of playing online... WTF?

GuyManDude: Those memory cards were also 8MB.

Adam Wrigley: Yes, you have to pay the LIVE subscription fee to play online. This is not new news- You have to pay for LIVE service now. The Silver account is a free account that allows downloads, chat, vieo conferencing and online arcade games. This is something that isn't offered to current Xbox users, so consider it a move in the right direction.

People are complaining about the price of XBOX but PS1 started the same way in 1995 for $299.99 with a core system with NO game included. Also people says "don't listen to analysts", and the analyst said way back that the price for the XBOX360 was gonna be around the $300.00 and thats the price...
Personally I dont think that the price of the PS3 will be cheaper or at the same price $299.99 bacause the blu ray price will be very high if the console ships in 2006, other people think the PS3 will come out in 2007...
For me I think is fair the price if I compare the price of the PS2 when it came out. Stores were selling PS2 consoles because of high demand at $549.99 with two games !!! Because of the shortage of consoles.... Personally I think that could happen again this Christmas with the 360....
