Name and address? The name's pretty simple (just look above), but the address... I think I'll keep that a bit close to my chest for now. Why do you need it?

I take it you have never been to Radio Shack before Dan Choi. They used to ask customers for their name and addresses whenever the customer buys something. It got so bad that people didn't want to go to Radio Shack just for that reason alone.

Actually, noi, I stopped by the local 'Shack several times just a few months ago, as I needed to buy a few audio cables and adapters for a custom Xbox Live headset of mine (as is vaguely implied by the text of my post). I guess I wasn't shocked by any questions regarding my personal information at the counter because I simply love receiving coupons or other promotional items in the mail. Sorry if I was unfamiliar with the controversy surrounding this practice, but a number of other retailers ask for the same information when checking out, so I didn't think the question was unique to RadioShack.

So are you saying you don't want my information then? =)

You must not have gone back in the past 7 years, they stopped that practice a long long time ago.

Also, this is nothing new for radioshack, they've been selling consoles for a while now (in special packs with accessories and game sin one neat package). They also have been selling games and music as well at canadian stores and at private franchised stores.

Deadpool, I haven't seen games or consoles in any Radio Shack stores I've been to recently, but I have heard that games have been sold in stores in Canada. The focus of this story is the online angle, but I'll have to re-check local franchises to be sure about B&M.

radioshack is a joke for gaming... there prices are high, and dont drop...
when the ps2 and xbox had dropped in prices, radio shack still had them for full price several months later.
aswell, old games, many of them are still full price...

I loved the games in RadioShack (Canada), they always had good games because the people who run the stores are mostly geeks. They always had a good selection of old and new games that you could never find anywhere else.

Zellers used to be really good for that too (they've cleaned up now tho), I even found a store that had 2 Virtual Boys shoved in a corner that had cobwebs on them! They even still had the original price of $299. I really wanted to buy them :(

I am a Radio Shack employee.

They are very open about being margin-based, so that's why you see what you see in their stores.

They also like being on top of trends, if you look at their history.

So naturally if this is a trend that has a margin that Rad Shmack finds acceptable, that's where you'll see 'em!

It's business.

It's true, I've been working at Radio Shack for two years now and I'm an assistant manager. We're going relaunch our online store come September so associates can sell products from the online store and still get commision for it. I guess we're going to have a TON of products, I have some faith in the company...heres to hope!!

I work for RS too and can confirm they plan on launching a new website in september, if on schedule, the 15th.

They said today at a district meeting that we're adding like 10,000 items to the site.

Don't buy the systems there, get accessories. They almost never sell and go disco after about a year. My old radioshack (i was MIT, yay me or something) would have N64 rampacks for like 30 cents at times because they were just begging to get rid of them. The best deal i've ever seen was a psx-usb adaptoid from pelican for about 6 dollars. Compare that to buying it online for 12.99+s&h.

As a RadioShack store manager, I can confirm this is true... The launch date has been pushed back to Sept. 28th "hopefully", but the online selection and pricing is set bring RadioShack into the big leauges as an Online Destination for Gamers! Beyond the game consoles and game titeles we will also be offering all the necessary Hi-Def flat panel Tv's, dozens of digital cameras, and over 70 Mp3 players (including Ipod and dozens of Ipod accessories)!!!

The launch date is in early October now, but I saw a training video for the new website, and it's amazing. No employee discounts, sadly. : (

I have heard through my regional manager that he is counting on October 5th to be the day. This is going to be a busy week for us because on the 7th we launch Nextel too but we will be carrying so more than 1100 games online for all major consoles and handhelds. Everyone get ready to reserve your 360 for launch date!

I am the manager of a franchise RadioShack in NC. They had a big show in Atlanta with all new products and displays. The Games Section was the highlight. Another being that they have plans to re-do the website, to make it easier to find.. well... anything! hurray for the shack! I do agree on on RS being pricey, but as soon as something goes on clearance it goes waaaay down.
