While the thoughts of developers do not
directly affect the gamer, it is interesting to hear about
the hurdles developers will have to overcome when trying to make that must-own next generation title. Tecmo president
Junji Nakamura, whose company is famous for their chauvinist-friendly Dead or Alive series, announced today that his
company is considering developing games for the PlayStation 3 (right now, the company is only confirmed for the Xbox
360). When asked about the development costs for the next generation, Nakamura noted that the costs of making games for
Microsoft's new console will be 20% higher than they are for the current Xbox (which, if the price of buying games also
increased 20%, would amount to a $60 price tag).
Nakamura had some more enigmatic words for the development of games for the PlayStation 3: "developers will need to
change their ways of thinking to adapt to the PS3's architecture" as noted by the GameSpot piece. Does this mean the
PlayStation 3 will be harder to develop for? How will that affect the launch titles of Sony's console?
