New Doom trailer shows lots of FPS action
The new trailer for the movie Doom has been released and it is definitely worth a look. Unlike the previous trailer,
this version shows off the "first person" view we have been hearing about. In fact, more than half the trailer is done
from this camera shot. It looks very much like part of Doom 3 for the PC, and I mean that in a good way. This is a very
different movie than anything I can remember, and if any credit is to be given, at least they are trying something
different.
Also enjoy brief seconds of the BFG and the chainsaw (pictured). So, now that you've seen this trailer, has your
feelings toward the upcoming film changed?

They're trying something different and staying true to the game....*peter griffin-esque voice* opinion changing slightly, though only slightly.

I'm curious to see it just to see how they integrate the first-person stuff. Does it seem natural? Is it forced? Would the action come off better if it were 2nd person? 3rd person? 4th...
But the effects look better than I imagined they would.
As long as The Rock gets one or two eyebrow raises, then I'll no doubt be seeing it.

That first-person stuff reminds me of the commercial for the doggy-snacks that taste like bacon!

Looks very creative, and i did enjoy "the brief seconds of the BFG and the chainsaw". I just hope it wont be full of over-acting. But i will definitely go check this out.

Ok. Hell yeah!!! I'm sold.

The more wink-wink elements they add to movies based off games, the cheesier it gets. I mean, it's as if to say, "Hey, don't forget that this movie is just based on a game." These movies usually toss in some throwaway lines or elements that were taken directly from the original game. Even if it doesn't fit or doesn't further the plot line, they have to put it. It's like there's a quota of these things that they have to put in 'cause otherwise, I dunno, without them there would be no connection between the movie and the original game.
Sometimes it's even worse like in Street Fighter: The Movie when M. Bison goes "GAME OVER!!" (Or how his control panel is the arcade stick and buttons.) The cheese factor in the movie is proportional to how many allusions they can make to the original game.

I will snap shit if there is no BFG shooting action. I mean action, not that the guys find this "unknown gun" and then try it out once and kills shit. I want to see the guys running all over the place shooting up the big centaurs with the BFG,not some cheesy 1 time deal.
Rare Hare @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
i like them adding stuff into game movies that remind you of the games..
i think it gives the movies themselves character. because, let's face it.. most video game plots are ass... generic at best. which is one MAJOR reason why the movies fail so badly.
all of that aside, i'm REALLY excited about the 'Doom' movie. have been since i read about the idea for it in an interview with carmack.

just watched the trailer, and some of the first person stuff really sucks. particularly the "reload" part.
BUT, the first person chainsaw scene looks really cool.
i should ALSO note that there is NO BFG featured in this trailer. there IS a plasma rifle (which looks cool as shit), but any fan of doom series knows the difference.
WebPimp @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
GOD. This movie is going to be so GAY. What is with the cheesy space station in the First Person view? It looks like they slapped together some plastic panels, grabbed someones second hand smoke machine and tried to pipe it into the halls. And also, where in a space station is there an underground sewer? I've played the game and honestly don't remember anything like that?
And what sucks more, is I will end up seeing this. Christ on a cracker!
Connor @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
I completely agree with #7, and also most of the recent video game movies have absolutely nothing to do with the storyline, such as alone in the dark, which blew. Also the rock is a terrible actor and any director who would choose him for a movie is retarded(if you disagree with me, see "the scorpion king"). On a more optomistic note, the first person stuff has potential, but it most likely will be cheesy and seem forced.
DigitalStupor @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Ahh yes...nothing like a gun that talks to you and has a bright shiny LCD display on it. I mean seriously there is no way you will hear a nice female voice reminding you to reload in the midst of a big gun battle. BTW, if I want to see stuff in the first-person like this, why not just actually play Doom3? Is this movie for people who actually won't play the PC game?
I'm waiting for it on DVD so I can laugh hard and not disturb the theater patrons.
n8 @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Oh yeah, this movie will suck. Maybe in a good way, but it will suck.
ill trooper: you made me spit milk out my nose with that one.
Snake @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Wait...the FPS parts of the trailer WERENT from an Xbox360 or PS3 version of Doom or something?
Watch the trailer again and check out just how CG they look, in other words, not good if they are expecting it to look like a real movie.
Now as a next-gen game.....they'd look alright.
Flavio @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
I have bo doubt that it will be very fun to watch. But the PINK DEMON WITH WHEELS (look closer and you'll see) makes me REALLY sick.
Fist Of Konshu @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
This is not a space station webpimp. This is a base on Mars. If you have the large staff that this enormous base would have then it is logical to think that it has a sewer. A better question is why do they HAVE to go through the sewer. Let's face it the whole locked door situation wouldn't hold up. Give one guy a welding torch and problem solved. But yeah there would be a sewer.
