The Xbox 360 can catch media streams from a Media Center PC. In a demonstration given to the
media at the Fall 2005 Intel Developer Forum held this week in San Francisco, a Media Center PC streamed HD
content to an Xbox 360 and TV while the Media Center PC played separate video content on a separate TV. Microsoft is
calling this the Media Center Extender functionality.
Here's what the marketing poster in a photograph appears to say:
-
Xbox 360 with Windows Media Center Extender Technology
-
Full fidelity Media Center L/I (remoted from the PC)
-
Music, photos, video and live TV with PVR
-
High definition TV and WMV
-
Protected and premium content
-
Third party experiences
-
Integrated into the Xbox 360 experience
According to coverage of the same event by TrustedReviews.com, "The video that was being streamed was 720p HD content, but Microsoft assured me that the 360 will be capable of showing 1080 HD content."
