Joystiq reader Adam sent us this link, in an
effort to remind the other readers – young and old – of how cyclical this console war mess is. The link below sends you
backwards in time, all the way to September 1999, where IGN64 (the original IGN page, if I recall correctly) ran a
satire piece "comparing" the Nintendo 64 to the very recently announced PlayStation 2. The article is meant as a
satire, but it does bring about a good point: all the
trash talking we have seen lately that is happening has
happened and will always happen by the companies and the fans alike. What caught my eye, besides the reference to
"Nintendo Dolphin" (which later became the GameCube) is the initial PlayStation 2 price: about $365. Really puts the
Xbox 360 pricing in more of a perspective.
So, enjoy, and if you'd like, feel free to go scavenge the Internet for your favorite PS2/Dolphin "conceptual
drawings" done by the fans, and add some PlayStation 2 vs. Nintendo 64 flaming if you'd like. Just go all out and flame
the consoles like it's 1999.
[Thanks, Adam]
