Update: Best Buy has changed the release
date to May 15, 2006.
Yes, I sincerely doubt this is true, but here is a theory as to why it could be. Halo 3, to Microsoft, is their Get
Out of Jail Free card. If Sony is releasing a new console, Halo can be
released to keep the focus on the Xbox 360.
Movie tie-in? That is also a possibility. Or, say, how
about if you announce a price for your new console and the public reaction is less than
stellar, what could you possibly do to ensure that
everyone still buys your console? Releasing Halo 3 as a launch title would do wonders.
Right now, if you go to Best Buy's website, you can pre-order Halo 3, which is currently set for a release date of
November 16, 2005 – alongside the release of Xbox 360. We'll update you if they take down the page, but for now, if you
want to claim your copy of Halo 3 months (or possibly a year) in advance, go ahead. Just for the record,
GameStop still has the release date as June 1,
2006.
[Thanks, bandersnatch]
