Sorry, dan. 10 years of experience doesn't give you the right to call anyone a douchebag just because you're over-sensitive about criticism of your work. I still stand by my first post as a valid critique of the article. And I'm glad to see that some among us can agree with me without blindly following the author in some sort of zelous attack against any form of criticism. However, I will make one concession -- that my original post sounded too harsh, and for that, I apologize. Otherwise, I stand by my original points as solid and sound.

I felt the article was very good. The C64 was a GAMING machine. I was really into the C64 and Atari 800xl almost the same machine as far as technology goes. I used to goto software parties all the time and you would not believe how many people would show up with there c64, tv, and about 100 floppy disks. I never heard of anyone using the c64 for anything but gaming. The atari 800xl-520st were the main ones used for non gaming. until commadore came out with the amiga. shortly after that they were all replaced by the PC we know of today. My first was a 25mhz with a turbo button lol.

Great effort!

Dan:

You should have seen the original article before the author revised the headline content, removed the Xbox and added other consoles. It was a complete joke comparing the Xbox $1000 bundle to full-blown computer systems. The article wasn't in any way shape or form journalism and should have never appeared on the site. Thanks to some of the above readers and the edits made due to their comments, the article is now barely passable. You should thank those that the help keep the content on this site somewhat reliable and not the ramblings of someone who simply wants to justify the high cost of an upcoming console by comparing it to unrelated items of yore.

MY XBOX IS A COMPUTER and functions as so. Yes, I modded it. but you can run linux on it without modding it. Computer related functions? yes

PS2 can run linux.

Dreamcast can run linux.

PSP has computer related functions.

Everybody above me that agrees with the first commenter is stupid and the writer of this article is cool.

A great system to add to your article would be RDI's Halcyon Laserdisc system. When it was released in 1985 it went for $2500 which inflates to $4436.65 in 2005.

Too bad it was so expensive it never really had a chance. It was really great technology and they had big plans for add ons and such.
