Electronic Arts, in all their charity, has teamed up with the Grammy Foundation to form Pro Session: Video Game Music and Sound Design. Sixty high school students who live in the Los Angeles area (and, presumably, have at least some musical talent) will get the chance to tour EA's Los Angeles studio and will work with EA's staff to create "two minutes of nonlinear music and interactive sound" for the games Medal of Honor European Assault and The Sims 2. Those games are disparate it should give students pretty much enough experience to orchestrate anything in between (which is nearly every game).
The Pro Session series is an ongoing promotion by the Grammy Foundation to show students different careers available
in the music industry. Other Pro Sessions include ?Film and Television Music,? ?Songwriting,? and ?Audio Engineering.?
I am all for promoting music, and music in video games ? some games have amazing scores and just get overlooked because
of their medium. Maybe these sessions will spawn greater composers in the industry, and maybe one day we will get a
Grammy category for Best Game Soundtrack ? a legitimate one, not just MTV moon man award.
What has been your favorite score for a video game? I am a total fan of the Super Smash Bros. Melee score, as well
pretty much anything Final Fantasy.
[Thanks, bandersnatch]
