Although this already appears in the Official PlayStation Magazine's October issue (expect to see it on newsstands either this week or the next), 1up has managed to obtain a copy of the unabridged interview with Yoshinori Kitase, who is the man to talk to if you want to know anything about Final Fantasy these days. Some interesting tidbits:
-
Advent Children "will complete Cloud's story."
-
There was never any thought of a "silly" FFVII game (think: FF X-2), "but actually, it might have made for a funny story if we had used Cait Sith as a main character."
-
As for Dirge of Cerberus and its online play: "There are three modes. Team vs. team, free-for-all deathmatch, and mission mode, where a team fights against a boss." Expect 20 to 30 players per team.
-
"There were never any plans to make a traditional, hardcore RPG" sequel to FFVII.
The multiplayer portion of Dirge of Cerberus, especially mission mode, sounds great if they can pull it off. Square Enix is not known for shooter games, but I do believe that they put enough time and research into making a great game, regardless of genre. If they are going to dilute a franchise, they might as well do it with high-quality games, right?
