According to a web-based survey conducted by market research group Zanthus,
Nintendo may be considering further spin-offs to their ever popular Zelda and Metroid franchises. But
if you thought that Metroid
Pinball was weird, you should see some of the
genres possibly under consideration for the future: card games, board games, (MMO)RPGs, fighting games, puzzle games,
trivia games, strategy games, and even (extreme?!) sports games. (See the screenshot taken above.) The page you see
here only popped up after the survey participant was asked about the merits of each series (and series installment), as
well as what he felt about each franchise's current direction on each of Nintendo's currently revealed platforms (that
is, the DS, GameCube, and Revolution). While I didn't see a similar list for Zelda games among the pages
offered, I can only assume that different answers in the survey taken would have resulted in a parallel selection
screen for our hero Link.
Of course, this doesn't mean you'll see Samus poppin' some sick tricks on the slopes of Zebes anytime soon; after
all, it's only a survey. But you can bet that Nintendo's looking for more ways to exploit, er… to
fully utilize its non-Mario franchises as soon as possible.
