Some people made fun of me for getting this, others thought it was just as awesome as I think it is.

The AI is great, the gameplay is open and you can play for short or long periods if you want. I could see great replay on this as you can always start over with a new puppy with a new personality and mold his skills different ways.

@ 3 : Gay? No. Kiddy? Perhaps. For everyone? Definately.

I showed my mom some BETA demos of the game (old old old vids) and she and my sister are completely sold on this game. My sister is 14, my mother is 50...now think about the new meaning of "bonding" between the two.

Buck:

So a game that is about having fun playing with puppies is gay, why? Yet you can't stop playing with it. Interesting.

Anyone who questions their sexuality when playing with a puppy, real or virtual, has issues.

Last time I checked, people in general liked puppies, not just children and gay people.

And yet some of my gay friends have no interest in playing it. Of course, some of my gay friends wouldn't fit your queen stereotype, so there we are.

And if the game is 'girly', that's not necessarily a bad thing. Nintendogs is clearly driving sales of the DS itself to a market that clearly has been underserved. Of course, if the game is so embarassing, someone should inform MTV, who's been running segments on it.

The game is kiddy and girly. Tomagotchi's were massively popular with girls. This isn't much different. I wouldn't go saying it's gay, but as I stated on another thread, the only two people I've seen playing this were females, ages 9 and 21. It's like Animal Crossing, a game that basically you just exist. I agree, it's absurd. There's no point to it other than wasting time. There's no plot, no characters, no emotional music, no villians... nothing that would even hint at a story. Not an ending or anything. Personally, I think that makes for a really boring experience. I guess my maternal instincts just don't exist, because this game wasn't fun when I tried it. I liked Catz/Dogz a lot more for the PC, ya know, like, EIGHT YEARS AGO.

Ah, we've officially had the Sony Fanboy comment from Christopher 7xii. That thirteen other comments came along before his waste of bandwidth is a bit refreshing.

Personally, I have it because I have an apartment lease that forbids any pet at all. There are some flaws I've found in the game's presentation, but overall it's a fairly solid simulation of owning a pet. I know it's only cool if you rag on Nintendo for not catering to hardcore teenage males, but I think they should be applauded for this game.

Tetris is boring. I love space shooter arcades though. Usually there is a story behind it(even if it's just save the world from evil aliens). Shit like Nanostray, Raiden DX, Ikaruga, and Gradius are some of the funnest games to shoot through. There is an ending though, plenty o villians, and memorable music. So I suppose that puts it at a level above Nintendogs.

But SEE! You proved my point again. Nintendo has a history of selling meaningless games, which seem to appeal to women for some reason.

And yeah, it's obnoxious when someone brings up something completely unrelated while slamming you and putting words in your mouth.

Nice name by the way. I just read it and got it.

YOU don't like Nintendogs. Fine. Some people play to have fun and they can have fun without conquoring bossess, finishing levels or collecting rare virtual items.

One could in fact say that all of those traditional videogame staples are extra trappings, and that a mature gamer does not need artifical rewards put into the game; that a mature gamer can enjoy the experience itself.

(BTW, I just wrote this on my new Treo)

Nintendogs looks cool, but I still don't know if I want to buy a DS just for it. I don't really want any other games just yet besides Mario 64. I think I'll just wait.

Is Nintendogs a "game"? Sure. It's on a video game system and it's intended to be fun to play. Sounds like a game to me. We need more games that push the limits of the definition or we'll be stuck playing the same goddamn FPSs forever. They haven't really done anything new there since Doom 1.

And as far as the anti-queers rejecting this game, I'm all for it. I don't want to be associated with anyone who needs a certain type of video game to ensure their masculinity. They sound like a bunch of insecure pre-teens who are seriously concerned that they'll start liking dick, and thusly have to reject this game on principle. I don't need them in my camp.

Sure, now I spit out a few curse words(heaven forbid I say fuck, cunt, or ass) and you can claim it to be a waste of bandwith. My original comment that was responded to with being a bullshit post was rediculous though.

I never ever(until today maybe) have labeled anyone a fanboy. I recognize who supports what systems(Dmitri, Kamalot, Eran Hawke, Nergi = anti Sony), but I generally avoid labeling people fanboys. I think it's stupid for the most part.

And no, I don't ever just randomly slam the DS. I always stay on topic. Big difference. Like here, I was explaining my feelings on the game mentioned after PLAYING THE FUCKING GAME. How that can be miscontrued into "bashing" the game is beyond me. No one seemed to slam the person I agreed with that originally said it was absurd(who SUPPORTS the game). Does nobody else notice the whole "lets hate the person who hates our precious" going on here? I didn't realize comments were only in existance to give kudos to the fucking game. May it be a crazy day when someone posts something that doesn't take from the "sweet" tree of Nintendo and praise the glory of N.

Bunch of fucking DS FANBOYS in this thread that don't care to hear anything other than "ALL HAIL THE NINTENDOGS, THE VASTLY SUPERIOR VERSION OF DOGZ 5!"

C-7-12:

Tetris has been on almost every video game system known to man, released by dozens of publishers. The only thing you can say about Nintendo with regards to Tetris was that it was one of the most brilliant moves in gaming history to pre-package it with the original Game Boy.

And I don't know if you've ever interacted with a female who plays video games, but in my experience, they like the exact same things that males do. My wife now owns Nintendogs and has gotten a lot of use out of Paper Mario:TTYD and various Pok?n titles; but she has also played 160+ hours of Disgaea, knows most of the fun things to do in SoulCalibur II and pulls out GTA:VC to blow off steam. All except the Nintendogs part apply to me equally. I'd like to see you make some of these comments to her face; I'd be surprised if she didn't punt you for it.

Author's note: WRD does not endorse violence against fanboys, or any living creature, for that matter.

Nintendogs is a great game. I think it's important that you play it right from the beginning, since afterall, you are raising and training a puppy. Regardless of what anyone says, it seems like Nintendo's objective is coming to fruition. Like Chris said, a lot of females are picking up this game, which is great. It's what Nintendo wanted and it's expanding the market. You see, people are taking interest in the game. And trust me, it's nothing like Tamagotchi. The idea is the same, that's just about it. Dual strike has been getting amazing reviews, but it seems it's not selling as well as Nintendogs. The reason: people don't have as much interest in that game. Personally, I think Nintendogs is a very fresh and enjoyable game.

Rose, I know two females that play games. One is a gamer, like you said... She whoops anyone's ass in Halo2 that she's ever gone up against. She loves Disgaea, owns me in SC2 (Ivy of course), and frequents all the AAA titles. I do notice that females are more succeptable to certain game types, just as guys are. Like I've yet to meet a female gamer that doesn't love MMO's, Zelda, and games like Nintendogs/Animal Crossing. Usually Tetris gets throw in there as well. They're more prone to playing those as I'm more prone to playing Hulk Ultimate Destruction. Not saying girl gamers ONLY like these types of games, but they definitely eat them up.

Good lord, Christopher7xii, how old ARE you?

Back on topic, I'm not surprised Nintendogs has sold more units here in the U.S. I got the game on its release date and I've hardly taken it out of my DS. Sometimes I just leave my DS on for hours on end while doing work, glancing over at my puppies now and then. The voice recognition is amazing, so is the A.I.. I feel a lot of us take technology for granted. I know the 12 year old version of myself would be floored.

For those who question whether it's really a game or not, it definitely is. You have to earn money to take care of your dog(s) and maybe even upgrade your place.

I still find it extremely odd that Nintendogs gets people so angry and heated. What's so threatening about cute little puppies!

I'd stopped reading this site a month ago when I was offended. But recently
I restart checking here. Then I found this site is still posting biased news.

Take a look at today's.

"Sony launches the PSP in Europe? finally"
: Body text is loaded with made-up complainents to Sony.
"PS3?s GPU got plenty on the GeForce 7800":
: False information. WOW, they believed teamxbox!
"17 million UMDs sold? only 9 million of them were games"
: Big number or small number? Joystiq took it very very negative.

Looks like this site love to to discredit Sony so that it can
get more attention. Having a many visitor, Joystiq is being the
worst second news source on internet. Congratulate you for being
mislabeled as a fanboy. Nice editors and posters, aren't they (we).
I'm disgusted again.

This game pwnz. 'Nuff said. It's more evil than Pokemon. It'll be the next big thing and profiled for every news article about what people want for Christmas -- a DS and Nintendogs. Along with Advance Wars DS, Mario Kart DS, Castlevania, Metroid online next year, etc. the rapidly expanding install base might persuade developers to focus on the DS, therefore crushing the PSP. Developers might also smarten up to the fact that they would make more money releasing original titles for the PS2, which has an exponentially larger install base. PSP will be the neglected step-son that gets ports somewhere down the line. Sorry to break it to ya, PSP fanboys... but start worrying. I own a PSP too, but it's pretty sad when the most exciting news for your system is that a web browser came out. I think GTA and Virtua Tennis are going to only have a fraction of NintenDogs' X-Factor.

OK I have heard enough about this game being gay or straight. Its only gay if you name you'r dog a$$milk and further more it could actually be considerd gay if you think of all the little outfits you can put on the dog. Gay people MIGHT find that aspect very apeasing. So beyond the scope of its gay or not, it will automatically be loved by many b/c its hard to hate a cute puppy. I think girls will latch on to it more then any other "group". I bought it for my girl friend and just like #1 post I have not seen her for days. Also I made the mistake of buying advance wars around the same time but now I am gonna have to wait a long time to play it. And as for all the super sony fanboys out there (you know who you are), you must be really really frust that a "gay" "kiddy" "girly" game is selling so well. You can always rip on Nintendo but they definitely do not suck. As for Buck, I agree it is kind of "girly" in a way and I am not really into it myself, but I can see how one can get addicted wuite easily.

So, to condense things for people that speed read: It's only manly if you are, it's only feminine if you are. It's only 'gay' if you want it to be.

Back on topic.

Anyone who doubts the power of this game... just PLAY it from the beginning for 15 minutes. If you don't find yourself totally immersed with the touchscreen to pet your dog and see it respond with incredibly realistic animations, with blowing into the microphone to create bubbles and seeing the dogs' gleeful expressions, with the voice commands that make them come to you and perform tricks... then you've probably got a metallic object where your heart should be. That's not even touching on the competitions, items to collect, walking your dog, bark mode. Who cares if it's a f*cking game or not, or if it's for gays or straights?! It's fun, and it's cute. Even the legendary Sony nutcase Phil Harrison thinks the game is admirable and fantastic.

You're all so touchy when someone doesn't like the game you like. It's sad. Someone commenting negatively on the premise of a game shouldn't put you into a tizzy to the point where you need to attack the person for having an opinion. I think you are all idiots for investing so much of yourself into a game, that it bothers you to hear that someone thinks the game sucks.

My self-worth is not determined by what other people think of the system/games I own, so if you bash a game I love I'll leave it alone or provide a counterpoint in an intelligent manner rather than backlashing like you talked about my family. YOUR opinion is just that... YOURS. That's why it's an opinion and not a fact.

You may love Nintendogs, but there will be people out there who think the game is for people with sad lives who have nothing better to do. Some people will think the game is an example of the kind of garbage the morons of the world eat up with a spoon regardless of how worthless it is. Some people would rather spend time with real live beings and don't need electronic devices to fill voids in their lives. Some people happen to be right, in my opinion. That's part of the beauty of this world. I'm allowed to have an opinion and I'm allowed to express it, no matter how much it diverges from that of the majority (and in the case, the majority happens to be Ndogs fans).

Understand that I don't think the kids who play the game are idiots. Their brains aren't developed enough to know better. Shame on their parents is what I say. Shame shame shame.

*Notice tongue planted in cheek please, and then go on and flame like you thought I was being completely sincere. I mean, I do think the game is very stupid, but I'll admit I did exaggerate for effect. It's more fun that way.
