So yesterday we talked about a film-to-game franchise that had
everything going for it – critically acclaimed director,
amazing team of developers, and so on. Today we have an interview, also from EuroGamer, about the new Matrix game: The
Path of Neo. The last tie-in, Enter the Matrix, felt more like half a game; it could have been so much better. Then
again, so could the trilogy.
Shiny president David Perry, in a lengthy interview, talks about all the key points that will make this Matrix game
stand out from all the rest. The biggest change, Perry notes, is that you are in control of Neo's destiny – you can
follow Neo's path in the movie (get captured at his office complex, for example), or you can just go off and play the
game how you want it. You can even choose to take the blue pill and…well…that pretty much ends the game. The story
spans the entire trilogy, so if you were not happy with how some scenes went (and I am sure you were), then you can
change it. The Wachowski brothers – who have major involvement in this game – have even changed the ending of the
Matrix trilogy specifically for the game. That should be enough to make anyone hopeful. The game is set for release on
PlayStation 2 and Xbox this November, and with any luck they will keep that release date.

I don't care what prejudices other consumers have towards the system, it's just a slap in the face to someone who bought a video game system that they don't regret buying.

As for the Wachowski brothers involvement (though I question the use of "brothers"-- didn't Larry get a sex change?), I hope it'll improve the game instead of impeding it.
