Rumor: Resident Evil 5 IS bound for the Revolution?
Oh no, here we go again. First it was announced that Resident
Evil 5 was coming to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3,
with no mention of Nintendo's next generation console. Then Nintendo
claimed that the game might be announced later this year
as more information on the Revolution is revealed. Now, Adam Riley from Cubed3 who
attended the Nintendo's Christmas Party 2005 in Europe
(yes, it took place on August 25th) has stated that "it was also confirmed that what a few of us had suspected is true
– Resident Evil 5 has yet to be announced for the Revolution purely because details of the system are not
publicly available."
One problem with the claim is that he does not mention from whom he heard this story. Another is that the prior claim
of Revolution's hopeful Resident Evil 5 announcement also came from Cubed3. So who knows? We will try to
confirm or disprove this as soon and as best as we can. In the meantime, feel free to be hopeful, but do not be
surprised if you are let down. Otherwise, the article is very lengthy and gives great insight to upcoming
Nintendo products, so check it out if you are interested.
[thanks, retro]

Not surprising. RE4 is the topselling GC game of 2005. You can pretty much count on all top-selling GC games to be brought to the Revolution as well.
Adam-James @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Awful idea.
I love a good biohazard game, but bringing a game out on the Revolution, which will be less powerful than xbox360 and ps3, will make the Revolution look dated very quickly.
Smiling Politely @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
It makes you wonder how powerful the Revolution really is going to be. If this story turns out being true this is the third game that is being developed for the Revolution along with the PS3 and Xbox360. Killing Day and The Darkness are the other confirmed games for the Revolution.
roachclip @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
So how much more poweful are the others compared to the Rev?
Seph Vellius @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Not true Adam-james
Because the rev is not HD, it will perform on almost equal if not better grounds than 360 and PS3. Unless, of course, if you have an HD tv. The revolution will be capable of impressive graphics because it will not be using processing power on a higher screen resolution that you may, or may not, be using.
Not that I approve of the lack of HD on Rev, but I do not doubt its graphic capabilities otherwise.
Ross Miller @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
roachclip, to answer your question will all public knowledge available, we do not know.
It is all speculation at this point, no matter what someone may say to the contrary. We know the Xbox 360 specifications, this is true, but beyond that, nothing is confirmed. We have some ideas as to the Cell processor and the graphics card of the PlayStation 3, but I am betting that nothing is finalized with the specs on a console that is still 8 or 9 months away from launch. As for the Revolution? We know that it has a GPU they are calling "Hollywood." Yeah, Hollywood. Yep. Anyways, so only time will tell. When the GameCube and Xbox came out, Sony said its own PlayStation 2 was more powerful, and we saw how that turned out. Besides, if the Revolution's graphics are inferior to the others, it won't matter in the long run. Remember, everyone is excited about the PlayStation 2 version of Resident Evil 4, despite it's technical inferiority to the 'Cube.
SetupWeasel @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Damn, Ross! I don't have anything to add to that.
Sanity on a weblog. I'm shocked.
MariosCousin @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
thats nintendos strategy 1.talk mysteriously about it 2. unimpress people 3. boom, bolw the fans away.

Nintendo is notorious for underplaying the power of their system, as opposed to Sony and Microsoft who do the exact opposite. I expect 360 and PS3 to be less powerful then the hype and Rev to match (or come close) to one or both.
Blue Balloon @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Don't think that Revolution is less powerful because that 360 soon release this fall which mean Revolution would be 6 months advanced tech already.
Arch-360 @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
GREAT! now the game will look like crap.compared to if it was done on the 360 or PS3. i pray for the sake of this game that it does NOT come to the revolution.
ps. i AM buying one.
Adam Riley @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
The thing to remember is that Nintendo really needs to ensure that the Revolution doesn't fall foul to what the GameCube did. The GC has some truly spectacular titles available for it, many of which push the normal boundaries of video-gaming. However, the support from Third Parties to bring 'mainstream' games has been somewhat lacking. Therefore, say for instance you were polling a selection of casual British gamers, in all likelihood they would either never consider getting a Cube or would not have even heard of the name 'GameCube'.
So whilst a bunch of Revolutionary games will be appreciated by us loyal Nintendo fans, the key to success this generation is to do that AND get all the main games from the PS3 & XBOX360 in the mix. Resident Evil 5 is one example and Grand Theft Auto is another...Appeal to the masses and thou shalt maketh the moolah!
As for my source that night, sorry folks, you must understand that anonymity is essential in these circumstances. You don't find out juicy information by tell-tailing and getting the sources in trouble now, do you? But for now, we should all calm down a little and await TGS for the supposed unveiling of the Revolution controller...
Ross, thanks for checking out my article and getting in touch with JB about it. Hope my response is sufficient enough to satiate you query :o)

Before you used the word "satiate," I appreciated your response and respect your anonymity.
AFTER you used the word "satiate," on a web log, I bow before you. Yay for reading above a newspaper level!
Seph Vellius @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
"I am disinclined to acquiesce to your request."
If a new source wishes to be verbose, that is fine, but I think your particular audience should be taken into account.
Anyway... the point is, whatever the processing abilities of the three systems, HD will require the 360 and PS3 to do more for the same result for those who CURRENTLY don't have a HD TV. When I get HD, then I will worry... but otherwise, I don't see Nintendo coming out with a machine SO sub-par that it could not handle non HD versions of their competitors games.
arg! @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
If every next-gen game looks half as good as Resident Evil 4 on 'cube then I'll be happy.
Adam Riley @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
No problem Ross - I was at work when I first noticed that my article had been sourced, but didn't have time to respond. However, upon arriving home to see a request from yourself I thought it only fair to come and explain myself.
My sources like to offer several tidbits of information, Seph Villus, but sometimes they are deemed too sensitive to make publicly available (for instance the rumoured European DS box art, which we had been told was 99% final, but weren't allowed to tell people about).
I always make sure that our readers are aware of what could turn out to be nothing but smoke. For example, back when the GC first launched I was reliably informed that a special new version of Street Fighter was set for the system. However, after the dismal performance of Capcom vs. SNK 2: EO the idea must have been shelved...Things change, unfortunately, so what seems like a solid piece of fact can dissipate all too easily.
Alexander @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
I like all parts of RE, but there are too many parts of it :).
Pretty Obvious @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Dont get your hopes up. This aint coming to the Revolution.

Well even though that was an example, the same thing is happening here in China (well I'm actually in the US but I was in China a week back). People haven't even heard of the Game Cube or X-box, reason? Not because they don't like it, but because of piracy. Yes that's right, because PS2 came out first and was had games that could easily be pirated, people knew, and people bought the PS2. Now in China the console gaming vs normal people ratio is very diff. than the US one, in China it's about in every 500 people there's one that owns a console, while here, in the US, it's more like for every 7 people there's 5 that owns a console(s).
I brought my GC there during the summer and my friend thought it was a PS2 (he's never seen one, only heard of them), then we started playing SSB:M - for 5 hours, and it was fun, so the next day he incited one of his friends and we played SSB:M from 10AM to 10PM, 12 hours straight, and even though my thumb felt like it was ran over by a steam rolling (slight exadurations, but it still hurt) for the next 5 days, the 12 hours playing it was fun.
REY2K7 @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
The Resident Evil Series will be on Rev. It's gonna be the only console to have all the RE games.
OTAM @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Maybe Nintendo will finally step up and bring their console into the mainstream and actually give some attention to the casual gamer rather than the 40 year olds who've been playing on Nintendo consoles exclusively for the only reason that they've been doing it from birth.
Nintendo won't try to gear anything toward the casual gamer but only their "die-hard" followers over the years and it's why the Gamecube didnt do that great compared to the Xbox and PS2 in the states.
