'Universal' PSP firmware unloader on verge of release

PSP Maxconsole.net has put up two videos of a PSP firmware unloader that will work for all PSP firmware versions. This will be welcome boost for any of you homebrew fans that have been holding out on upgrading your firmware to the v2.0 spec. Once this utility is released you'll be able to take advantage of the v2.0 features as well as play your favorite homebrew apps.

The utility will be out just as soon as the WAB and PSP-dev guys are sure that the unloader won't completely fry your PSP. Unfortunately this unloader is the kind that completely removes the past firmware upgrade, which means you'll be upgrading and unloading constantly to run older homebrew apps. So, around two weeks from the US v2.0 release, the haXX0rs have done it again. Isn't it about time Sony just accepts the fact that people will find a way to play homebrew apps on their PSP?

Wait, who cares if they figured out how to downgrade the PSP? They also figured out how to run an executable on the PSP 1.52 and 2.0 firmware! That's bigger news to me. Why downgrade when you can get the best of both worlds?

It's a downgrader. Downgrades firmware from 2.0 and 1.5x to 1.50 or 1.0. Once you download, no more 2.0 buttery goodness for you, unless you want to re-upgrade and re-downgrade endlessly. Maxconsole didn't make the downgrader, nor are they testing it. "Team WAB" and PSP-Dev are the "haXX0rs" and they are the ones making sure people don't brick their PSPs.

hmm oh yah.. i forgot... the 1.52 version firmware downgrader came out on sept 1st.. but it has been working way before that, never released...

so, since everyone has version 1.52 and down, you dont have to wait, unless you are an idiot who just wanted to try 2.0, and then changed your mind about it... heh

sony cannot ignore people who try to make homebrew because if you can run a non authorised executable it means you can run pirate games. The only other console that was able to play pirated games unmodified was the Dreamcast and look at where that ended up...

actually wab just ripped off the community and are trying to push their luck as long as possible by releasing the video showing the "downgrade" application. it's all bs.

doubt it, wab is one of the somewhat better groups... they arent out to make a buck by jacking other people's free stuff like other groups (ex: ps2nfo)

Cool, might be a good reason to actually dust off the PSP again. There's no freakin' content available for the thing.

Heck, I'm still tempted to trade it in for a few PS2 games.

I was playing copies on my stock PSX back in 95. I eventially put a chip in it as I was tired of swapping discs.

I love the Dreamcast and let me say - that had absolutely nothing to do with its demise. Zero. Not having a DVD player, not being able to battle Sony's marketing, not having Madden, not having Final Fantasy, etc - THAT was its demise...

sony won't give up trying to prevent it, because they would then look as if they tolerate / allow it and they clearly don't want to do that.

The so called videos are a "hoax" -- anyone can clearly see that from viewing them. It's getting to the point that WAB are getting attention for something that does not and will not exist.

View the video - does it actually show a "downgrade" taking place? Isn't the firmware at the end 1.52 just the same as it started.. Oh, but they 'aborted' it .. well, think of this. *If* they can get apps running on 1.52 to begin with, why do they need to create a 'downgrader' when 1.52 is already cracked?

*Sigh* .. it's the blind leading the blins..

but i still hope they will fix a downgrade for us, and im sure they will afterall!

wats up
psp is the best portable device out there. but if sony seriously wants dominate the market, they should hire and /or provide lincences to homebrewers. this way no one gets hurt and everyone is happy! plus the homebrewers could write more stable apps, by recieving the specs of the psp's coding.
