Lumines and
Meteos, those
soul-consuming
puzzle games from
Tetsuya Mizuguchi (of
Rez fame) will be making the leap to cell phones in the
first quarter of next year, thanks to the corporate maneuverings of seasoned mobile developer Gameloft (a "sister"
company to Lumines's U.S. PSP publisher Ubisoft?) and Mizuguchi's own Q Entertainment. Even if the unique
aspects of each game may need to be somewhat altered to fit a handset interface (can you all say
N-Gage/Nokia compatibility?), it's easy to see how these
popular puzzle games could fit into single-player challenge and multiplayer versus modes for the more advanced phones
out there.
So what did Shuji Utsumi, CEO of Q Entertainment, have to say about all this? "We are very excited that
Lumines and Meteos will be enjoyed by a wider reach of customers through distribution on mobile
phones." So the folks at Q are excited. I'm sure they're not the only ones.
