Ever since 2K/Take 2
Games snagged the rights to the MLB license (for third-party slugging titles, that is),
more than a few people figured that EA would be working on
a college baseball game to salvage their rejuvenated major-league game engine and development work. College ball was
even supposed to be featured in the next MLB game. Well, MVP fans, EA's managed to knock a blooper into the
exclusivity outfield with MVP 06 NCAA Baseball officially set to release next year, even possibly in time for
spring training. (Hope springs eternal, they say.) Everyone from university athletic directors to conference
commissioners are excited about the first (seriously the first?) NCAA baseball game, though it appears no
student-athletes were readily available for comment with regards to such pressing matters as player-licensing fees,
exclusive game deals, or student transcript records. I guess those features will have to wait till next year.
