Yes, "eXtreme." That is how Sega chose to describe its upcoming Sonic racer in the latest issue of Famitsu magazine. Corny adjectives aside, Sonic Riders, the spiritual successor to Sonic R, sounds like it could turn out to be a racing game worthy of our attention. The game features your favorite Sonic characters on air boards racing to the finish line, but the catch is that each air board has a fuel gauge that must be replenished either at specified locations or by pulling off some fancy stunts. One way to conserve fuel is to ride the turbulence caused by your opponents – very sneaky, indeed.
Of course, one question still remains…how fast is it? A Sonic game without mind-blowing speed would not be a Sonic
game. Oh, yes, I forget, the game is eXtreme – well, that settles it, then.
