Remember the board game Operation, where you
would attempt to take out a plastic pencil from this poor red-nosed gentleman's stomach without hitting the sides of
his open wound? Okay, maybe it was never quite described that way, but that is the first thing that comes to mind when
I think about the upcoming Atlus game Trauma Center: Under the Knife for the Nintendo DS. The game will arrive
on store shelves October 4th in the U.S.
Trauma Center is a medical puzzler that has you play as a doctor amid a serious outbreak. With the stylus as
your medical Swiss army knife, you can slice, anesthetize, bandage, stitch, and inject your way to the level of "Master
Surgeon," all the while reading the comical between-surgery dialogue notorious in Atlus games (Disgaea).
The surgeries themselves play out like a timed puzzle game, which is good, as long as Atlus puts enough levels in the
game to add to the lasting value of the title. And for those puzzle fans who may have fears of hospitals or
needles or whatever, the game is definitely cartoon enough that you will not have to worry about becoming too
squeamish.
