The Metal Gear Solid hype machine is starting to
ramp up again, and though a Metal Gear movie
is probably a long ways off, visitors to the Tokyo Game
Show next week will get treated to a new trailer for MGS4 to gaze upon and ravenously speculate about
for the next few months. Okay, so didn't we already catch a comedic glimpse of the game back at E3 in May? Well,
yes, that was a trailer for MGS4, but it was
rendered on a PS2, see? This will be the
first trailer for the game running off a PS3, though it hasn't been announced whether the preview will be
pre-rendered or running in real-time.
[UPDATE: The footage from MGS4 will
be running on real PS3 hardware, so we can avoid all that talk about
targeted visuals and whatnot. What a relief. Thanks for
the heads-up, metal_gear_jello.]
In other Metal Gear news, visitors to Konami's
TGS booth will get to enter a tournament using the online multiplayer mode from
Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, and also get to
try a downloadable demo for Metal Gear Acid 2 on their PSPs (if they bring 'em). Though Hideo Kojima has
adamantly stated that MGS4 will only be released for
the PS3, you never know if the promise of a "casual" or
"everyday" "steak" will eventually bring the sequel over to other next-gen consoles. All of that pales in
comparison, however, to the true concern for all die-hard MGS(1) fans, which is: how much are we gonna see of
Meryl, and, perhaps more importantly, how little are we going to see of Raiden? I think we all have a sense of how
Kojima's gonna deal with that one.
