It will be called the Xbox nano.

It will come in 2 versions. The "Core" version will have no screen or hard drive, designed for the casual gamer, and won't be compatable with other nano games. A screen/1 gig HDD combo addon bundle can be purchased for $100. Microsoft will call this a bargain.

The full version will come with an HD screen, a 1 gig HDD, and will play all DRM'd MS "Plays for sure" files, as long as you pay the Xbox nano Live Platinum subscription fee.

What do you reckon they’ll call it? And what do you wanna bet it attaches to the Xbox 360 via the optional docking slot?

Do we, maybe, think there should at least be the faintest hint of a rumor of such a thing before we worry about things like what it would be called or how it works?

Don't be party pooper, WRD. ;) It is clearly stated above that Microsoft has announced no plans to produce such a device. This is pure conjecture.

Have fun with it.

This is my dream. Seriously. I just hope that they can make it as powerful as the original Xbox, so they can port over Halo 1 with online functionality as a launch title. Ill wait however long I have to to get a handheld this powerful that is efficient, or at least more efficient than the PSP.

While it is a nice interest piece, this will never happen, not from MS anyway. Moving into the handheld arena is about the worst move they could make, and they know it. Right now they're giving Sony a run for their money in the home console business (where it actually makes sense for MS to compete) while Nintendo battles them on the handheld front. This puts Sony in a tough spot, and that's what MS wants. The handheld market is saturated already with 20 different models of Gameboys and now the PSP. I would put my money on never seeing an XBOX handheld, which wouldn't hurt my feelings at all, in fact it's better that way..

Yeah, right.. a portable Xbox? Are you kidding? That thing would be so huge, you couldn't carry it in your pocket.

The handheld xbox will happen someday as long as the xbox brand survives long enough. It will probably be a windows mobile device geared towards gaming however. I don't see this happening in the near future though.

Portable XBox capable of playing XBox games? Doubt it. But I do thing you're on to something. Here's my prediction:

XBox 180/SideKick/Origen?:
-Basically just a portable media center 2.0 (ever wonder why Creative and all the other manufacturers haven't annouced any PMC 2.0 devices?)
-PlaysForSure support
-No CD/DVD drive. Just a memory stick or USB host to grab content from a camera on the go.
-It's more of a media device than a game machine but will have the ability to play all of your XBox Live Arcade games that you've downloaded to your 360.
-Docks with your 360 in the same location as the removable HDD effectively making this the reason the 360 Core exists since this can also double as your hard drive.

I think a portable gaming system that links to your home console would be kind of neat. The portable would act as the controller and the screen would show maps/weapon/health stats.

This unit, however, looks like it would be too heavy and clunky. You need to design somthing that looks high-tech... not design somthing that looks like a happy toy you get at mcdonalds.

absolutely no doubt. i think it was some guy at Microsoft who said, when asked about Microsoft jumping into the handheld market, that its stupid to go somewhere with such an insane market share.

no way.

it'll be a mod. but no. portable Hard drive? full colour (4" minimum) screen? dual analogue? full sized DVD drive?

it would not work. it'd be worse than the PSP!

yeah, i actually did read quite a while ago that MS had thrown the idea around briefly about the "Xboy"..

i'd prefer for them to just leave that particular market alone though.

Pocket nothing, you'd need a pack mule to carry it around with you. Just you wait, someone in the XBox department is going to remember those old luggable computers and suddenly have a fit of inspiration...

Ha Ha Ha....

ya Microsoft said they wont make a handheld...which naturally means they are planning on ripping off PSP. This Xbox Mobile will come in two bundles. One thants just basically a shell of a system with nothing inside, but hey, it'll look kool! This will be sold at a "great price". the other option will have everything and will be able to play all the games, but will cost 400$ more and will require a subscription to Xbox live Mobile to play online. this is for hard-core gamers who enjoy such luxuries as screens, the option of saving your game, and fuctionality with all the games!
