Advent Children leaked onto the net?
Some sneaky pirates known only as BiEN (which, yes, means "good" or "well" in French and Spanish) have ripped a
DVD-quality copy of the upcoming Final Fantasy VII movie, Advent Children, and released it on the
Internet. So, if you need your AC fix a little early (Japanese fans can get the DVD tomorrow, those that live
in North America have to wait an excruciating two extra
months), here is your chance.
Joystiq does not condone pirating of any kind, so do not ask us where or how to get it. However, we will say that
FF7ACMovie.com has fan-made English
subtitles for the Xvid
file.

Don't you yanks get in trouble for downloading movies before their released?
OTAM @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Of course you'll get into trouble for downloading movies illegaly.
It's just that you have to get caught first. I know firsthand someone who got into serious stuff for getting caught,so I honestly don't recommend d/ling this, just go out and buy it.

Since it might be take a year or two for this shite to be released over my place (if ever), I'll take a look after one of my friends finish downloading it. I have very low expectations on this movie (the homo bar is too high for my personal tastes - no offenses intended to anyone), so I'm not gonna waste my precious bandwidth on it.
Andre @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
After watching it with English subs, it is my opinion that this should have been made into a video game. Unless you are a die hard fan of the game, you w ill be sorely dissapointed with the movie. All the characters are "emo" and the only saving grace is the appearance of the characters from the game. Yea, the battles are amazing, but after the 2nd one you just won't care about it.
Christopher7xii @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
need more seeds...
how do you apply the subtitles? i usually just get hardsubbed anime.
and eh, i'm impatient. i'll be buying it on UMD and DVD, but I just can't wait another 2 months. This summer has sucked for games all around. For the love of God, I started playing WoW. After being clean of EQ and any MMO's for 2 years I got WoW due to lack of games.
I dont want to get sued... @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Wow, that was a son of a b@#%& having to rencode the audio and add the subtitles and everything else. But it's worth it. I'm currently burning the first personal Advent Children DVD! w00t! In addition, I'm working on the first ever non-trailer Advent Children AMV! Double w00t!
As far as I'm concerned, this leak is Square's fault for delaying the launch. It's back to what now? Feburary? That's psychotic. I'll still probably buy the official DVD when it comes out, but until then, I'll be happy with my own personal version...
Christopher7xii @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
So is it illegal if I buy/import the japanese DVD, download this, then burn a copy of it with the English subtitles? I'll buy three copies if that's what it takes for this to be legal.
I just honestly can't wait anymore, knowing that it's out and the rest of the world is experiencing. Fuck them, I should be watching it. Seems no one can appreciate the depth of it either, complaining that you have to of recently played through it to understand anything.

I've put together a short review/preview/impressions of Final Fantasy: Advent Children,

Ryuukuro @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
It'd be one thing if it weren't liscensed for release but since we all know it's coming out very soon it's not condonable to have a pirate version floating around.
Don't try to pass it off as a fansub. It's just piracy, pure and simple.
Pseudo @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
I'm no fanboy of Final Fantasy by any means, but by comparison to what has came out of American filmmaking in the last few years, this is one of the few movies of any genre or national origin that has kept me glued to my seat the entire time.
I've honestly thought that I was becoming A.D.D. in my mid-twenties, but then when I see something that entertains me this much, it just further goes to prove that there isn't much out there worth my two hours anymore. This film was worth it.
As for piracy concerns, I have NEVER felt ANY remorse for what I do. I will buy this the second it is available in my market. It is one in the same. I am simply taking the actions into my own hands to watch something that I am just as excited to see and deserve to see as much as any person in Japan. Why should I be punished/prohibited for not being Japanese or not being able to travel to Japan to see this?
Ok, I'm not here to preach ethics, nor am I here to prove anything. I wanted to express how much I enjoyed the film. :
Christopher7xii @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Thanks for posting that Pseudo. I've yet to read a good thing from stuff people have read. They all complain about it being to complex or too relaint on the game... Ya know, the core audience it's met for. Then you have Kamalot pimping his stupid ass "review" of it, simply to be part of the anti-trend trend. I don't quite get people mocking it for being unrealistic... It's based in a fantasy world with TWO fucking talking cats, magic, summoned demon creatures, and all this takes place on a planet that lives off of the souls of it's inhabitants with a visual force binding it together... Yet people(like Kamalot) expect it to be realistic? It's based off a fucking FANTASY VIDEO GAME. Why would it be realistic? It's not live action, and they never gave ANY impressions that it would be realistic. If you didn't get that from the trailers that have been around for the past year or so, you're an idiot. You really don't have to go and ruin everyone elses good time. I mean, you actually took the effort to pirate the movie(one of the first I might add), then watch the movie, just to leave a bad review of something you already knew what to expect from it. That just screams "I need attention because daddy beat me and mommy was never home". Ya know, it's "in" to hate good things though.
Vejadu @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Considering that it was originally slated to come out TOMORROW and got bumped back two months, if they had released it when they said they were going to this wouldn't be an issue.
Regardless, many people who download it will still buy it when it's released, but this will hurt sales in the long run.
Coyote @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Oh for the love of... I was hopeing to get this tommorow, now Id have to wait 2 months? Yea good job Square youve just made this the most popular torrent in the states right now... Congratulations
And as for the reviews, any of them saying its "unrealistic" or "to emo/involved" has obviously never played a FF game (or seen any anime for that matter). I thought this was the best CG and story for a 1:40 long movie in a long while. Now while the story will confuse you if youd not played FF7 but really, your on joystiq and you never played the best RPG for the ps1 and best of the FF series(recently)? Youve had 8 years!!
Ikon @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Wow, that wasn't worth my 2 hours. FF7 is the best game ever made in my opinion, it's a shame this movie is related to it. I would explain in detail why, but it would be a major spoiler. I'm just hoping that the sequel (game) won't be anything like another sequel I know of...*cough*x-2*cough*. Square has a chance to redeem themselves with a great FF7 game. Maybe it's just me, but I believe FF7 was the last GREAT game by square. FF3 (no I won't call it 6, cause I don't play it in japanese), and FF2 (no, won't call it 4 either), and lastly FF1 were insanely great. I think they might be trying to make things TOO complicated or intricate. Story's don't have to be that way in order to be great. Ok, I'm done venting.
Charles24 @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Wonderfull movie some people might not like it at first probably because they dont know squat about FF7 or they dont understand much of it. The DVD rip didnt have subtitles so I went to a long proccess to set up the subtitles but I did it.
first time I watched it I was like this movie isnt as good as I thought too much action less story. After watching it I started searching for plots and read some, I watched the movie the second time and wow Im blown away Its been a while since I played the first game but now I understand whats up I have to say that the ending makes you want more. Check out my blog by the way I posted some killer screenshots not seen anywhere although its spoilerrific.
Rayven @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
I thought the game was awesome. I played it inside and out and figured out every part of the plot. In my opinion, the game is the most complex plot of any of the FFs. Seeing the characters come onto the screen and seeing them in action had me gaping in awe. I finished watching the movie and didn't believe that it was 1 hr 40 min. I thought it lacked a little in plot, but I only watched it once. I also wished to see more materia effects and more characters involved in battle, though it was awesome being able to identify some of the limit moves.
I'll probably watch it once or twice more, then delete it until it comes out on DVD. I'm not big on the pirating thing, cause I'm an actor and I put a lot of work into each show I do. It would suck if I couldn't do it anymore cause some bastards decided not to pay for my work. At the same time, I'd want the audience to see it more than I'd want the money. I couldn't resist the temptation.
Overall, a really good movie. Worth the wait. If you decide to wait another two months, I have a feeling the DVD will be even better.
