Last July we wrote about a rather discouraging poll for
the Xbox 360 – evidently, only 2% of the Japanese polled would buy an Xbox 360 over the PlayStation 3 (60%) or the
Nintendo Revolution (8%), which leaves 30% undecided. The new survey, published by Nikkei, reveals a rise in the
numbers for all consoles: of those interested in buying a console next generation, 72% want a PlayStation 3, 6% could
fancy an Xbox 360, and 22% keeping an eye out for the Revolution.
Bear in mind that these figures are for Japan, and do not parallel that of the US, where Microsoft has a more
dominant presence in the polls. Also, this poll allowed
for multiple choices, unlike the previous, so there are still 21% undecided for the next generation.
With that said, kudos to Microsoft and Nintendo, for pretty much tripling interest in their respective consoles over the last month – especially Nintendo, as we still know next to nothing about the console. Hopefully that will not be the case for very much longer.
[Thanks, bandersnatch]
