Now, now 360 fanboys, no need to deny that the pictures of MGS4 look awesome. At this point no one really knows what the PS3 is capable of. When MGS2 was first revealed everyone thought the graphics were fake, but Kojima (Konami) delivered (with the graphics anyway...stupid Raiden). So I'll believe the graphics were rendered in real time until Kojima (Konami) earn my distrust.

Now to all you Sony fanboys, MGS4 looks amazing. However, there are some equally amazing looking games for the Xbox360. Resident Evil 5 and Gears of War spring to mind. Now I know some people say the screenshots for RE5 are most likely fake. To those people, I cite historic precedent again. When RE1 was remade for the gamecube, a lot of people said those weren't in game graphics. Sure the backgrounds were prerendered, but the finished game did look as good as the doubted screenshots. So I'm inclined to believe Capcom if they say Devil May cry 4 will look that good. If you're a Sony fanboy and you still want to make fun of the Xbox guys, you should brag about getting MGS4 and DMC4(since it's doubtful the 360 will get them) and not about the graphics or system capability. Remember this though, the 360 is still going to be supported by Capcom and the 360 has a lot of support from Bioware and Tecmo's Team Ninja. The 360 fanboys will be bragging a lot in the future. Well, they'll be bragging even more than they already are anyway.

In case anyone's wondering about my system preference, well I'm just going to go ahead and get both. However, Sony's extremely arrogant attitude is annoying me. I wouldn't mind seeing Microsoft serve Sony a little humble pie....

"Resident Evil 5 and Gears of War spring to mind. Now I know some people say the screenshots for RE5 are most likely fake."

RE5 will be released for the PS3 as well, and some hope for the revolution. So that is why people are comparing MGS4 and DMC4 to Gears of War. It's the only good looking game on the 360 that is not shared by other platforms.

Anyways, of course graphics don't matter, Sony enthusiasts having been playing that card all along cause we all know that the Xbox is more capable graphically than PS2 (eg: Star Wars Episode 3: revenge of the Sith). So we already know that graphics don't make a game. And yet the PS2 still outnumbers the Xbox. Why? Cause it has great games, and a great variety of games. MGS and DMC are just mere samples of what PS2 owners enjoy. I had over 15 games for the PS2 at one point, but I gave most of them to my little brother cause my apartment is cluttered enough as it is and my girlfriend would have none of that.

So for the 360 fanbois out there, don't bother playing the "grphics doesn't matter" card. Cause we invented it!

I am beyond sick of this flamewar over consoles. It takes me away from time that I could be using to finish my College work, but NOOOO, there seems to be endless banter between 360 and PS3 released movies, images, prerendered, real-time. PLEASE GIVE IT A FREAKIN REST. If you don't believe something, play the waiting game and truly admit you were wrong. Don't come on here saying, "Those are totally pre-rendered shots" and then when you have egg on your face come release day say "It's not about the graphics anyways." This is Annoying, why are you fighting to change someones opinion. You would think you guyz work for Microsoft or Sony's marketing team. It's their job to sell the console, let them do what they may. Believe nothing until you can one day, walk into (target, gamestop, etc.) and play a game on either system and compare which one you like better. In the end, it is up to the individual consumer, so quit complaining, PLEASE!!!! For the sake of reading comments, please stop filling a blog with argumentative comments that essentially adds fuel to the flamewar. If you want to duke it out, GET A ROOM, ONLY 39.95 AT MOTEL 6.

IN.YOUR.FACE.!!!

with realtime graphics like that a game looking like the e3 clip of killzone would be easily achievable.

Arguing with fanbois aside, I feel that Kojima is going to make this a somewhat sad game near the end. Let's face it, it looks like Solid Snake is not going to make it out alive. I have a feeling the last scene will have Snake's funeral attended by his allies. This with a slow string rendition of the Metal Gear Solid(tm) Theme playing in the background.

As I always say when it comes to matters of Sony, I'll believe it when I see it on the fucking shelf.

I'm not even getting into an arguement because with the content of your last posts I can see you're,

1. 14 years old.
2. An idiot Sony fanboy.
3. Worthless.

There's really nothing for me to prove otherwise aside that you arent going to waste my time with your idiocy. If you honestly don't believe that they are games that look like your "phenominal" MGS on the 360,I can name a few off the top of my head.

Gears of War,Project Gotham Racing 3,and NBA Live2k6,and Ghost Recon 3.

But i'm sure you were too far up Sony's ass to see those, right?

Joel, I'm actually 24. i've been playing console games since i was 3. I know the frustration of ET, the novelty of the empire strikes back, and the agony of my dad and uncles spending all night "setting up" my nes when i got it for xmas the year it came out. i remember the sense of accomplishment at actually hitting the top of the flag pole at the end of a level of super mario bros. i'm not some "young kid" who hasn't seen all this before.

first, no, i'm not a big fan of sony's electronics. every expensive cd player i've had from them has worn out after 6 months; every dvd based platform i've owned from sony has burned itself out in under 11 months (unless i had a warranty, in which case it made it 13 months). that includes a psx, 2 dvd players, 3 cd players, and a ps2. that hasn't stopped me, however, from recommending the ps2 to people during my time in retail if i thought it was the appropriate system for them. and obviously, i've bought sony's systems in the past. i also own a gamecube and an xbox.
i will further go on record and say that i prefer my xbox to all three consoles.

as much as you might dislike it, that doesn't change the fact that sony has a track record of claiming the world with their announcements, and then failing to produce what they promised. the tech demos for ps2 demonstrated graphics that resemble the best of current gen pc games. sony announced that the emotion engine and their new processor architecture would be the future of computing, powering home electronics, and would grow to be a powerful architecture base for home and busines computing platforms. microsoft may have mentioned toy story quality graphics as their target (which some could argue they've reached with games like halo 2, chronicles of riddick, ninja gaiden, etc, and which some could argue was utter nonsense as well), but sony showed cinematics that were essentially taken from final fantasy viii and claimed they were "real time" and were what could be expected from the ps2.

none of this came to pass. the most visually impressive game on the ps2 is either god of war or gran turismo 4; the first is well animated and has a lot of character, but can be low res and blurry, and the latter uses prerendered shading tricks to look more graphically complicated than it is. neither are what sony promised for their current console.

recently, we were presented with the psp, a "ps2 in your hands". "real time" footage was shown for it as well, and everyone was taken aback, with some publications claiming that in some respects the machine was more powerful than ps2. and here we are, 6 months after launch. there are 40 to 50 games, and none of them even reach the muster of a dreamcast game; most more resemble a psx port than anything.

and at e3, we are presented with images that are astounding, and everyone believes again. after being fooled at least twice by a relentless hype machine run by people who try to sell cool, people are fooled again. after the conference, after the development studio of killzone admitted that the video was a prerendered video that was not in game, that wasn't even "real-time". and in this very comments section, we have people parroting that killzone was "real". it was real in that it exists as a video on someones hard drive. it was later revealed that every piece of game footage at sony's conference was a prerendered "target" concept, with the possible exception of fight night. and here we are again. i hear "real time", and i can't help but chuckle. because really, sony is worse than 0 for 3 in this kind of situation. and people just keep on believing.

i'll say it again. i want these to be real. i really do. because i know that the ps3 and xbox360 are very, very close to each other in terms of both processor architecture and overall system power, and more than that, the 360 is apparently the much easier of the two to get good results from. i also hope that resident evil 5 looks as good as the video that capcom has released, and that ghost recon advanced warfighter really looks like that. again though: i'm leaning towards no. and until a reliable press source can actually handle a controller and tell me that these things look like this in game, i remain hopeful, but very, very skeptical. and now, i swear, i'm done.

aegies:

What a long rant. If you had spent half the time you spent writing that actually *reading* the post you are responding to, you'd realize that you have said *nothing* of value.

When I stated "I understand why reasonable people are cautious to believe Sony's hype," what part of that was hard to understand?

We are not talking about Sony making these claims and releasing these screens. Sony did not release these.

We are talking about Hideo Kojima, a man who doesn't hype things he can't back up, and a guy who has a proven history for not overselling, and always delivering. Period.

Sony's track record, and 90% of your reply, have nothing to do with this.

Hideo Kojima would rather not show anything (see his strange, short E3 presentation from this game which used PS2 tech, rather than BS "artist's representations" of the PS3's capabilities,) than show something he can't deliver. Look at his history. There were always naysayers, esp. for MGS2, when people said "no way that's in-game, they aren't going to release that game for a year, it has to be a tech demo." A year later, Kojima delivered. Everyone who doubted his integrity has proven to be wrong. You would be best served to put your "Sony lied to me!!!" mentality aside when dealing with Kojima.

Kojima is not Sony.

I love it how everyone claims that they've had X many Sony products fail on them. I've had a Sony Dream System, a PS2 (bought on release day, and used very very frequently ever since), an original PlayStation, a PSP, two Discmans (I bought a second because after four years, I was bored with the first one I had), and a standalone cd/cassete player. I have had not one problem with any of these devices, aside from my second Discman, which I dropped from around 10 ft. onto a marble floor... I wish people would quit making up how they've gone through 16 PS2's. Most of the problems people have with any electronic device comes from misuse, or disregarding warnings from the companies. A classic example would be the Sony warning to not lay your PS2 horizontally on a carpeted floor while operating. Most everyone I've seen just ignores that one...

The only true piece of shit product that is sure to screw up no matter what does come from Sony however........... SonicStage. And they're killing that. Thank God.

Sorry for the rant, I was just getting frustrated.

Jake.

People don't "make up" having gone through more than 1 PS2,they actually DO,and me being one myself. I've had 3 PS2s already and the third one goes into cardiac arrest when I put in my copy of Silent Hill2 or Stuntman.I've grown up with gaming and I know how to treat a system,I treat it like it's supposed to be,an investment. I take it out of the box and it's stationary, yet i've still got disc read errors out the ass.

I like reading aegies' posts because they are the same way I am.

I've grown up with gaming and have been through all the consoles.I remember playing some firefighting game on the Atari as a kid, helping my dad through Final Fantasy 1 on the NES where you had to hold the reset button (or power, can't remember which) to save it,and staying home from school the next day to stay up all night playing Super Mario World on the SNES when it came out.I've been around the block. This time around out of the 3 consoles I prefer my Xbox. I do own all 3,but I like the Xbox the best seeing as that i'm tired of Nintendo franchises from playing them since birth and I can't even use my PS2 because it's poorly made.

It's just very irritating when people dismiss the everything we've seen on the 360 so far, actual gameplay running on some form of in-game engine, just for a handful of screenshots from a console that isnt even close to being finished yet because they love Sony so much and they can do no wrong.

How about we stop being fanboys and start being realistic. If that's the way MGS will look, then fine, who cares,if it doesnt, again who cares?

If you really, desperately need to compare both machines, wait until 2008 when they are at their peaks.

You posts are moronic and baseless. I have nothing to prove to you. You are some high school drop out living in your moms basement waiting jacking off to screen of Joaana dark.

Jake, I know exactly how you feel. I've owned a first genereation iPod and it still goes strong. Yet people say the battery life is short. I've own an NES, Genesis, N64, PS1 and PS2 over the years, and NEVER had any of them fail on me.

Why? Cause I take care of my stuff. I paid for it, therefore i will take as much care as possible. I handle the discs by the edges, i vaccuum the vents of the PS2 to ensure heat flow freely. And I lie it flat on a hard surface. I have yet to encounter this fabled DRE everyone is talking about.

I am sure that those people are a vocal minority. And not representative of the whole.

The only thing to ever fail on my was a power supply for a PC. That's it.

Everything else I've had since the day i got it. Even my rust bucket of a car that burns oil is going strong. And is still able to pass the emissions test without skipping a beat.

If people took care of their stuff then it wouldn't be a problem.

metal-gear-jello...

Exactly, people don't take care of their stuff. My friend's PS2 quit working on him, and I know why. Because he didn't take serious care of it. Now he does, and there were no problems which is good because he couldn't afford to have another disc being cut in half. My PS2 works perfectly. I keep it clean, I handle the discs the best I can, and no DRE ever occur.

As for these clips. Pretty. That doesn't really matter though because, how are you going to play it? Using the same PS2 controller (you can probably see where I'm going)? We see all these amazing feats in these next gen games, but how will we do these things? Will every game play like God of War now? I hope not, because that just would get old. That is why I'm hopeful for the Revolution, hopeful that it could bring a new way to play and control your games. I'll get tired of pressing X repeatedly just to stab a guy or having to wait until the square button appears to jump up a leadge.

All things aside, this stuff is real time. Hideo is among the few developers you can actually trust. The Devil May Cry stuff, maybe, I can't really say. Capcom is a mixed bag. I'll definately be getting a PS3 for the MGS stuff, and I'll probably see more games tomorrow that I want.

I doubt games will start adopting the god of war/resident evil 4 style of playing. It's just one way of playing the game. Though it does add an extra dimension.

For the Devil may cry stuff, Capcom hasn't committed to showing any trailer during TGS. So I think this is it, though prove me wrong Capcom, I invite you to! I think Konami's booth will be crowded though as the trailer will be shown. I'm perplexed that they were able to get a trailer out of the game so early into development. I guess they were the lucky few to get their hands on an alpha kit.

Guys, guys, guys... I love a good debate, but we're getting into ridiculous (and rather offensive) assumptions about each other:

"I'm not even getting into an arguement because with the content of your last posts I can see you're,

1. 14 years old.
2. An idiot Sony fanboy.
3. Worthless....

And it's not just OTAM, either; metal_gear_jello, you've responded in kind more than once:

"Your childlike antics are what I expect from 7 year olds complaining to their mommy that people are disagreeing with you.

Let's lay off the personal attacks, shall we? The discussion was a lot more fun when you two were talkin' trailers and console-maker promises. Let's keep things civil and intelligent, all right? =)

Also, love the bios, guys, but we really shouldn't have to defend who we are just to prove a point. Character assassination doesn't help.

If it helps any, I'll lock any further attacks to keep things fair. Is that cool with everyone? We can be rational about this, can't we? Hope we all can agree that this is the best way to handle things.

Xbox360/PS3 competitors? or allys?.....Both actually. As more and better competition arises for each console both continue to strive to be on top, therefore working harder on their games and creating better games (in story, graphics, gameplay, mechanics, anything you name it). As long as there is no competition and a lack of necesity for new content we are going to keep getting the same games over and over as long as people keep buying them.

I have owned two PS2 in my time , and I'm not going to blame the company for my first one breaking because my stupid cousin placed a cd incorrectly on the disc tray and he broke it when it was trying to get back in. Other then that I've had this new one for about 2-3 years now and I havn't had a problem with it since, I also own a CD player (one of those extremely skinny ones) that I have had for about 2 years and it has never faultered on me in any way even though I have dropped it multiple times on hard floors, good at taking a beating if I may add haha.

Personally I prefer a PS2 over Xbox in this generation, because the games are much more appealing to me. Xbox games are just....well bad and look at reviews for most of them, they tend to come out at an average score. Plus most of the games that are good on the Xbox are ported to other consoles as well, even Halo is on the PC. I don't see what is so great about Halo though =P it's pretty boring and the controls are ...well slow, it's such a slow paced game. The games on Xbox360 look to be muuuch better in content then the Xbox, and I want to play a lot of the Xbox360 games. PS3 games look more appealing to me though because of the sequels to my favorite games like Devil May Cry, Tekken, MGS, RE and I'm sure there are going to be sequels to other games from the PS2, (If Santa exist my wish is for a remake of FF7, give the developers, creaters and voice actors time and money to make it....if it doesn't come true you can just go to hell you fat oaf)

If I had the money I would buy both X360 and PS3, and I probably will by the time they come out but I probably won't be able to spend time on them because of medical school annyyyyways so that is sad =( so very very sad. It's the worst time for consoles to come out for me....sigh they're all against me. Oh well, if I only had the money for 1 system I would most likely go with PS3 and just leach X360 off other people hahaha.

And just for the hell of making a comment towards this, I hate the arrogance and cockiness (spl?) of both Microsoft and Sony. It's pretty damn annoying , one thing that really upset me during the time of pre-E3 was how Microsoft was claiming it's system was the most powerful of the next generation and it's the best system, but technically (emphasis on technically) the PS3 is little more stronger then the X360 and they know it so they shut their mouths. I don't know about PS3 being twice as powerful (that whole teraflop of information thing I understand but only to an extent because I'm not a programmer or computer specs fan boy, but for sure PS3 has the upper hand with Blue-Ray, much more space but the reading speed may be affected, nothing is 100% final yet many things can change to the PS3 by it's launch because of how much time it still has to be released, X360 has it's time limited to Nov but maybe they'll surprise us and change something). It's sad how the graphics of MGS4 are being compared to something like Ghost Recon for the X360, thats just sad because the detail on the people for Ghost Recon arn't anywhere near these screens, and Why oh Why are people being compared to Cars...CARS what is up with this? Any car game on any system (current systems or next gen) is practically going to look very pretty, because cars don't have as much detail as humans or the complexity of a human being. If your going to compare the graphics compare it to something like Gears of War because that is a valid comparison. Both systems are looking hot and I hope they both do well and have games take full on advantage of their hardware and capabilities. Unfortunatly we won't be able to see the FULL capabilities of the next generation systems until a few years into their life cycle, but hopefully we can get there faster with the next generation then with the last. Happy Gaming
