Japanese gaming mag Famitsu has had a long and storied
history of spilling the beans on new games and such, and
things are no different on its printed pages in the days leading up to the Tokyo Game Show. Today, we've just received
word from Famitsu Weekly fans that Japanese developer Monolith will be announcing Xenosaga 3 for the
PS2, Baten Kaitos 2 for the GameCube, and Xenosaga 1 + 2 for the DS(!) at TGS this week.
The combo of the first and second parts of the
Xenosaga series will be completely adapted into 2D, but Namco will try to squeeze as many of its (in)famous
full-motion video (FMV) cutscenes in as possible. As for Xenosaga 3: Also Sprach Zarathustra [Thus Spoke
Zaratharus], it will be the final installment in the PS2 RPG storyline, but you never know whether its creators will
pull an Onimusha and bring the series back in some
form later on. (Next-gen 'saga, anyone?)

The cutscenes were long. VERY long. "I can go grab a snack and use the can and probably play something else before this thing ends" long.

Wow, is it MGS long or just very long...
And yes ROG27, I'm excited too. Though I don't like snake with a mustache. I think he'll look better clean shaven. I just can't wait to see this in motion this weekend.

Xenosaga can put MGS cutscenes to shame any day... in length, not necessarily quality.

Wow, Dante looks awesome. I only wish Capcom is releasing a trailer for DMC4. It would be nice to see him action.

Third and final? I thought Xenogears was supposedly the fifth in the planned 15-part series.
Guess the sales just aren't going to justify a Xenogears remake.
Well, here's hoping that Xenosaga 3 actually has a money system. It was kind of silly, not being able to buy things in XS2.

final installment on PS2. Trust me on this one. It should have died with Xenogears if you ask me... Horrible games.

I'm fairly positive that this will not be the LAST xenosaga. The series is supposed to be about 7 instalments long, with Xenogears being the fifth. If this one is the third, then there are still a few more to go.

Man, some people still don't get it.
This is the last XS people. End.
The series was NOT meant to be 7 games long. Xenogears was. The 5th was NEVER planned to be a Xenogears remake.
Xenosaga is a different series than Xenogears.

Don't know how many times people have to say this until others finally get the point. Sure, the series have some similarities, but they are diferent. Monolith doesn't even own Xenogears, so how could they make a remake of it in the xenosaga series??

Because the people who wrote xenosaga are the writers of xenogears, while it is true that square owns the rights to Xenogears that does not meens they own the rights to the idea only the game.
And if you really have played that games (at this point I'm guessing you have not played one or the other) you would know that Saga and Gears is the same series/story.

To nod an agreement to Asmodean, Xenogears and Xenosaga are a part of the same story. Perhaps not the exact same story, but close enough. If you've seen the Preview movie from Also Spracht, you would recognize a very young Fei Fong Wong, who also just so happens appears in XenoSaga 2 as well. Also... as mentioned, Square Soft owns the game, not the rights to the story / characters. Any author can tell you ownership of the 'movie' rights, is not the same as owning the character rights.
Also note... that it says in black and white pixels... "final installment in the PS2 RPG storyline". Gee... does the upcoming PS3 release ring a bell? Maybe that means that parts 4+ will be on the PS3? Hmm... perhaps.
