Gamers Reports has made an interesting observation in the new
"Revolution" console photos. Despite them being white, the bottom also reveals that the name on the console has been
replaced by Nintendo where it once stood Revolution. At this point, I thought they were going to keep the name (like
they did with the Nintendo DS), but maybe it is still up in the air. At the press conference tonight, Iwata did refer
to the console as "codenamed Revolution" (thanks, Vlad).
What would you call it?
[Thanks, Brad]
Revolution still just a "codename?"

"Well, considering EA isn't making games for the Revolution,"
Um, right...
"Game control is essential - it's the area where perhaps the most game-play improvement can be made," said John Schappert, Sr. Vice President and General Manager of Electronic Arts Canada. "While our portfolio represents a full array of titles across all genres, I think our sports titles might be the first to immediately take advantage of what this novel 'freehand' type of control has to offer." from igncube.com
Yup, that pretty much destroys the rest of your comment. Yeah, they can't make traditional transitions based on just power alone anymore. Now developers can make the same game, but put extra work into using the Revolution controller tech. Either that, or you can use the Gamecube controller for third-party games, since Sony and M$ doesn't have a different controller. And I completely disagree about the "Gamecube controller was designed like ass" thing. Many people would disagree.

yeah, because the Z button is so accessable by adult hands...

Dude, you so think your opinion is god here. I know a lot of people who don't care for the Gamecube controller. I know a lot who do, and they aren't Nintendo fanboys either. Thats just a matter of personal opinion. The third party stuff, that is a matter of you disliking Nintendo, then posting false comments to hurt them, or at least try. Not that its working. Funny, you didn't even make a comment on the fact that I proved you wrong. Besides, I have large hands, adult hands as you put it. I have no problems with the Z button. The only real thing I dislike is the C stick. It should have been like the analog stick.

I'd simply call it 'Nintendo'. It sums up Nintendo - old-school content, their new philosophy - so they should just use their company name. They could really re-establish their brand by doing this, similar to how people know 'playstation' and 'xbox', while Nintendo's consoles seem to have one-off names that they become known by which won't be around in the next generation (Nintendo 64, then GameCube - many people may not even release that the GameCube is a Nintendo product.)
Of course it might be confusing for some people, due to the NES, so maybe a better option would be 'Nintendo (insert snappy 2-letter abbrievation here)' in true DS style. Nintendo RV (NRV)?
I'm counting on this one being a hit. Nintendo have once again found their place in the gaming industry.

I don't think my opinion is god. I never say "HONOR MY ROYAL DECREE AND ALL ELSE IS FALSE, SENDING YOU INTO THE PIT OF DESPAIR AND ETERNAL DAMNATION". I just argue my point and view. Tough shits if you can't realize that. I'm fairly certain a good majority of people see my posts and skip them. Maybe you should do the same then?
As for proving me wrong, I didn't refute it any further, did I? I'm not going to commend you with a gold star or anything. I just drop that point because it's been dealt with using facts, so there's no point in continuing with that any further.
I don't quite get what you mean by posting false stuff to hurt Nintendo. Me saying EA wasn't to be supporting Revo is based of some article posted here on Joystiq. Then the multiplatform thing was a personal observation based off the fact that A)Revo is underpowered compared to PS3/X360 since they value gaming, and B)The button count from system to system is entirely too different to counter for the Revo.
Sorry, personally, I can't see how you'd bring over Incredible Hulk or Tony Hawk's American Wasteland to the Revo without releasing a different controller. As for requiring me to use a gamecube controller on a Revolution in order to play a revolution game, that's absurd. Yes, it's possible, but I forsee Nintendo making a killing on periphrials this round.
And yeah, I realize the cube controller is opinion based. EVERYTHING THAT COMES OUT OF MY FINGERTIPS IS MY OPINION, unless pulled directly from a source with quotes. Even if I pulled it from a factual source, without quotes I'm probably giving my view on the facts. As in if someone kills someone else, it could be justified, it could be murder, it could make them a saviour(killing a rapist who has your children hostage), or it could make you a devil(blowing up a school). I thought it was obvious that when one person speaks, they're giving their own opinion? Personally I hate the cube controller. The Z is poorly sized/placed, the shoulder buttons are curved really funky and take an abnormal ammount of force to get the highest analog reaction, the C stick is dumb, and the A button is really really huge. I don't quite get what makes it so much better than the other buttons. Aside from first party games or exclusive games, the controls often feel awkward compared to a PS2 or Xbox game, IN MY OPINION(Figured i'd add that just so you'd realize).

"As for requiring me to use a gamecube controller on a Revolution in order to play a revolution game, that's absurd. Yes, it's possible, but I forsee Nintendo making a killing on periphrials this round."
So you must think the XBox 360 and PS3 are absurd to huh? Frankly, the PS2 must have been absurd to you since it is the exact same thing as the PSOne controller (aside from a couple tune ups and lighter weight). Of course they will make a killing of peripherals, which you fail to realize that yet you do realize it at the same time. The joystick/trigger buttion attachment was just one of likely many addons. But you just want to focus on the negative here. You just want to say that Nintendo can't come up with a device addon to make it easier to play first party games. Oh, but probably when it comes to Sony, you drool over the possibilities even when they aren't presented yet.
I may have gone too far with the judging of you and your opinions, I'll admit to that. And I shouldn't have tried to eat at your nerve by rubbing in the facts I presented, saying I proved you wrong and all.

"Seriously, why are people calling this thing a flop just because of the controller?"
It's easy, they are idiots, lacking in general logic and knowledge of the games industry.
Everytime you see someone call the DS (and now Rev) the next Virtual Boy simply chalk them off as the fools they are. Same goes for predicting Nintendo's death, a moronic notion if ever there was one.
As for a name for the Revolution, I'm quite used to that name now, the Nintendo Rev would do me just fine.

I never said what I would call it.
I would say 'Nintendo Generations'. It features Nintendo through history with all their games (albiet the Virtua Boy). It also show their next generation.

I don't think they should keep it as the Nintendo Revolution. I hope Nintendo continues to make consoles in the future and if they do, they will most likely bring something unique to the market as they have done here at the TGS. And when that new console comes out, I'm sure it will have "revolutionary" aspects... what will be of this "Nintendo Revolution" that we are seeing now? It won't be a revolution anymore when it comes down to the next system.

I think it should just be the "Nintendo [insert symbol here]" like infiniti or something. Or the Finger, because that's what I want to flip to all you people who think the most innovative controller since the addition of the joystick is going to sink the system.

some of you should probably stop jumping to conclusions from a PROTOTYPE CONTROLLER. one that you've never even held or used yourself.
especially since it's not the only thing included in the box. from eurogamer.net:
Eurogamer: How is the controller going to work with games that aren't designed specifically for the Revolution - multi-platform titles and so on?
Jim Merrick: We're producing a classic-style expansion controller, based on traditional designs like the Gamecube controller. It's like a shell with a hole in the top into which you slot the freehand-style controller, and then you can play third-party ported games, and retro Nintendo games you've downloaded.
So there's that option - but even while it's inserted into the classic-style shell, the freehand controller will still be able to sense positioning and so on, so there are more options too.
It's something that's just as true for the DS - not every game uses the DS's unique features. But some multi-platform titles do, like The Sims 2 for example. We hope other developers will do the same and look at ways their multi-platform titles can make use of the Revolution's features.

No, that's not what I meant. I meant the fact that I have to buy GameCube controllers as well as harry potter wands to support multiple users. I'll need multiple wands for any Nintendo games like Mario Kart, then the Cube controllers for any multiplatform titles with friends(Unreal 2007 style stuff). Then the other add ons... Sure, you can say I'm focusing on the negative, I'm just focusing on how much money I'll be spending to enable the experience of playing a game the way it was intended to be. Like Donkey Konga. You need the game + 3 other sets of drums. Granted, some of you have friends that bought it too and the drums, but none of my friends did that's for sure. I hate purchasing more periphrials to enable a game, let alone TWO base controllers. It has potential for games designed for the Revo, but I really don't think this thing would play any traditional games that I'm used to... Which I guess is the point? For a new style of play? Honestly, I enjoy the current style of play, which is why I'm into the scene. I ENJOY the way things are, that's why I play them so much. I guess I don't see a need to change the way I play them, just what I'm playing.

Then you don't have to worry:
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=60917
Nintendo is planning on releasing a more conventional controller addon, likely to be packaged with the system. And, why would you need to buy more Gamecube controllers? This is just an assumption, but do you already own a Gamecube? If not, then ignore that. Unreal 2007 would likely be made to use the Rev. controller, if it was ever ported to the Rev. Also, expect to be spending a lot of money on Sony and M$ too, whichever you go with. Not only will the systems sell for more, you would need to buy peripherals like a HDD to get the max out of them. Yeah, I can see why you are partially against the new controller, because its new. Will it be practical? Will it limit gameplay in some aspects and add to others? How much will I have to pay? These are all questions that the upcoming months will answer.

I plan on not purchasing the HDD for PS3, since it adds no gameplay enhancements. It's just a storage device.
Honestly, the most iritating part of all this is that Nintendo is making me feel guilty for enjoying games. What the fuck is that about? They talk about how it's come to an end, that players crave more, that they need to get back to the basics where fun exists, etc. I enjoy games the way they are, why should I feel like Nintendo has abandoned me with all of this? Maybe that's their marketing strategy, to make us feel dirty for wanting a PS3/X360? Why not just sell better games and present the facts than explain that games are going nowhere and they hit a dead end. I mean, I played and loved the shit out of God of War. The say with World of Warcraft, Dungeon Siege 2, Battlefield 2, and .hack. Currently I'm in love with Burnout Revenge. If this is the end of the tunnel, I'm confused.

Nintendo aren't telling YOU games need to change, they are saying that gaming has become a narrow market, targetting only a small demograph of potential users.
This isn't healthy for any industry that size, can you imagine the film industry if it was only porn, or only Disney - something would need done to expand that market and essentially save it.
What do you have to feel guilty about, we'll still be getting all those great games we grew to love and need - this time our girlfriends have more chance of joining in and that is something that holds my interest greatly.
It seems to me you go out of your way to be negative toward Nitendo - you can't see the forest for the trees.
And I agree, I have also enjoyed those games (or most, personal preference and all). But really how much longer can Burnout be fun, I'm doubting I'll get the latest version now and after the next one on PS3 it'll be the same story all over again - we'll get the same game with a little tweak every year.
I for one simply can't wait to play Metroid Prime 3 with such an amazing (in theory, and from hands on impressions, in practice) gameplay style - it seriously is going to be a new beginning.
How could anyone NOT be pumped about that?

Eh, cuz I didn't like Metroid Prime. I really don't hate Nintendo, I do hate their fanbase though. I just don't find a lot of their "core" games to be less than appealing. Nothing more than a few hours with buddies, enough for a rental, uses all the fun up.

--Try EverQust. Our girlfriends playing the games we do is NOT always a good thing. You think your girl is stubborn shopping with her time? Imagine how she feels when it comes to growing and creating her own character? Immersed is hardly the word. I've talked to way more housewives on EQ who devote their time and cause fights with their husbands to upgrade their computers than any child ever has.

--Again, I'm not really anti Nintendo. I honestly don't see a need for change. You say it's all porn or all disney, but I scroll down the genre setting on IGN and I see plenty of variety. RPGs, Strats, FPS, RTS, Platform, Action, Racing, Sports, simulations to name a few. Granted there are some current trends that are popular (FPS's for one), but that's the same as hollywood. Like how the past 3 years have been nothing but comic book movies being released year round. There's plenty of variety in games. Sure, a new dumbed down magic wand of a controller can open some doors, but it's still not going to change much. The same genres will still exist, you'll just point with your arm isntead of moving a thumbstick with a thumb. If this is what's supposed to save the industry(which is at a booming high compared to the years of NES), then games are doomed.

Every console's fanbase (by that I presume you mean the system only types) are complete fucktards, from Nintendo to Sony. Whiney little whores that shout rubbish at you. Still, it's a rather moot point, isn't it?
As for not enjoying the games as much, well that kinda settles it really. It wouldn't matter if you had the best, most advanced controller in the world or your hand shoved up a dogs arse - you'll still not love the game.
Still, I presume by your comments you like them enough to keep playing?

Not a PC gamer, I'm afraid, or maybe in that case it's a good thing.

No you've not understood the analogy, really.
The games industry is rather centric on attracting males, from 15-25, all those games listed are in large for that demograph.
If the film industry was the same way it would need growth, much like the game industry does.
I have no problem with a cooking game or such if it grows the market, I sure as hell won't buy it but it doesn't exactly put me off. I have a PS2, I'm not rushing to grab that Barbie game but if it helps the market and Sony then that's cool with me.

First of all, kindly drop the "magic wand" bit, makes you sound like a pathetic little fanboy - and I can tell you aren't.
Secondly, it isn't really to "save the industry", it's going to expand the industry. Grow the industry.
How will playing F-Zero with such precision, or an FPS with such control/immersion not been completely new? It can rebirth new franchises while still holding the things that we are familiar and in love with. How doesn't that "change things"?

Still, I presume by your comments you like them enough to keep playing?
"Try EverQust. Our girlfriends playing the games we do is NOT always a good thing. You think your girl is stubborn shopping with her time? Imagine how she feels when it comes to growing and creating her own character? Immersed is hardly the word."
Not a PC gamer, I'm afraid, or maybe in that case it's a good thing.
"Again, I'm not really anti Nintendo. Like how the past 3 years have been nothing but comic book movies being released year round"
"Sure, a new dumbed down magic wand of a controller can open some doors, but it's still not going to change much. The same genres will still exist, you'll just point with your arm isntead of moving a thumbstick with a thumb. If this is what's supposed to save the industry(which is at a booming high compared to the years of NES), then games are doomed."

Listening, like 3 minutes into the english translation of the keynote, he says save the industry.
As for the magic wand, thats what it is to me. I'm not saying fairy... I just makes me think harry potter, or more nintendo like... Wind Waker. Honestly that's the first place I went when I watched the video with the old couple orchestrating together. That and again, I'm disappointed and annoyed with this being the controller I've been waiting for all this time. I kind of hold it in a stronge distaste now.
I also didn't get your analogy because you said porn, then disney... That's children up to ages 12, both male and female... then males 18-25. Kind of two different areas. Then again, film industry also has a ton of romantic comedies, childrens flicks that appeal to adults as well(Incredibles). It's just a bad comparison in my opinion if you're trying to get that point across. I do agree that the majority of major releases for video games are aimed at males ages 15-25, but well... Go where the money is, right? Honestly, I know older people are grown up and realize there are more important things to life than games. They might play a few minute bursts here and there, but not enough to warrant purchasing a system AND games.

You are aware of how different out terminology is to the Japanese language, yeah?

Trust me, I've enjoyed a mature debate with you and as such would like you to keep respect - you drop it with such idiotic comments.
Also hold distaste until you play the thing and keep an open mind my good sir, I know that's a pot/kettle/black situation with me liking it and not playing - but I have people who played and loved it as backup (1up) - you don't.

Read my words again, I'm pretty sure I used "or" in regards to the comparison - I was simply drawing on two extremes that sadly you felt relation to gaming with.

I do agree with that to an extent, but gaming will become a niche entertainment if that situation isn't resolved.
It now generates more money than Hollywood yet isn't recognised as an art, why?
Because our industry is stuck in past, we need to move forward and the only way is to make the consoles a household appliance for everyone - not just traditional gamers.

I personally like the Revolution name and hope they keep it. It kind of goes well with their next GameBoy which is called or codenamed Evolution. In a year or two from we can all be playing on a Revolution and an Evolution. :)
As for the controller, I think it is innovative. As for gamers worried about how third party titles will play with that controller. It's likely possible that they won't need to configure their games to that controller. I don't know if anyone has realized this or not but, when the Revolution stands vertically, the top of the sytem has a flip out tray which reveals four gamecube controller ports and two memory card slots. I'ts possible to attach a wired gamecube controller or a wavebird to those ports and it's possible third parties might configure their games for the NRev to use the gamecube controller or this so-called game shell Nintendo plans to still unveil. Something that's being overlooked here is that Nintendo is offering a variety of different ways to develop games for the system. I'm sure in the meetings with the developers, Nintendo is showing the different controllers, peripherals, accessories they can use for the system & their games while signing them to a 'secrecy' clause until the Big N decides to make their announcements. I'm sure more is to come.

For the people saying "Nintendo's last console", ect... You obviously have NO business sense whatsoever; complete failers probably. Do you really think you know better? What did you think about the N64 anolog stick? How about sholder buttons, rumble features, the NES controller itself. Oh and finally, I'm sure you haven't gotten over the DS yest, but rest assurted, just like the others, it WILL become standeard and has already succedded beyond ANY other portable video game system aside from the GB line.

Personally I'd go with N5. Throw a little graphic design behind that and some typography and voila! Sides, I was under the impression that this was to be Nintendos' 5th console?
I read an article a while ago that the reason behind MS going with 360 instead of 2 was because Playstation was in number 3 and they didn't wanna look less. N5 baby....they've shown us what the revolution is, servey's are saying there is huge buzz about it....N5. 5 is greater than 2 & 3.

Honestly, the NRV is sounding more and more to me like a gimmick. All they did is replace the right analog stick with a gyroscope, yet everyone thinks it's such a revolution. A 3D mouse, is that it? If you look at the controller and the nunchuku addition, it has only 1 to 3 less buttons than the gamecube! It has A, B, a & b (or X and Y depending on what version you're looking at), Select, Start, (I think it has a button when you click the analog stick, but not sure), and 2 triggers (on the back of the nunchuku). That comes out to 9 gameplay buttons, and the gamecube has 11 gamepay buttons! Wow what a revolution, it looks so much easier than an xbox 360 and ps3! What an excuse to waste your money on a technologicaly inferior system with less games and no HD support. Don't buy this "Revolution", you will regret it. Even though I'm telling you this, you're all still going to waste your money on it, and to tell you the truth, waste your money, you won't have any money for food therefore you will rid the world of another worthless individual that plagues this world with your pathetic stench and the disease of foolishness.
