Should be impressive. A 2006 holiday release would be nice.

I'm not sure if any of you remember the GC launch press conference, but at that conference, I asked Peter Main, then CEO of Nintendo, "Since the core gamer audience consists of high schoolers and college students, two groups not known for having lots of money, and since you are saying you are making profits off each console, will you offer 2 controllers instead of 1, since you expect people to play your games multiplayer?"

He reponded, "No. But, as we've stated, you WILL be able to get a Game Boy Advance and just plug that in! So you'll have two controllers right there."

The audience laughed.

What they didn't know was that Peter Main was a filthy liar. How many games had full GBA control? 2? 3? On top of that, you needed to buy an extra cable.

My point? All these pie in the sky features Nintendo's talking about having ready upon launch...take them with a grain of salt. So far they've promised:

Wireless "3D Mouse" Controller
Controller backwards compatibility
Bundled Analog adapter
Shell to house the Wireless in.

I would expect not all of these 4 to be true, or at the very least, not all available for free at launch.

Alkaiser, after reading your comment and thinking back to what you've mentioned, I grudgingly admit that you're right. =/ But it'd still be nice to have something NOT a la Crystal Chronicles...

nintendo was right when they said their next system will be a revolution. wow. this is an amazing technological jump in terms of controllers. nintendo has managed to fundamentally change the way people play games. i can just imagine in first person shooters. you can now hold the controller like a gun and actually aim. zelda should be amazing too that you can now actually swing the sword. wow. so much possibilities. good on ya, nintendo.

You are right #5, after having the system being built upon 3 of the 4 thigns noted, how can they possibly come through with ANY of them?

Alkaiser, I see your point. But I think something was lost in translation. It just doesn't make sense to me because the GBA and Cube controller are so different. GameCube games aren't suited well for the GBA controller. I see your point, but I think something was "lost in translation" or miscommunicated.

Matthew:

No, they referred to it in the press slides from that year...the party line was that the GBA was going to be useable a a controller for the GC. Nothing lost in translation there.

Imp: I expect those things to be true in SOME format. The analog adapter obviously exists...but will it be bundled? Will controller ports get dropped on the way to production because they're too bulky for the sleek Rev?

All I'm saying is...they've announced stuff like this before (much like Sony and Microsoft, don't get me wrong.) so don't buy into it all until we get more proof.

I am worried that if I sneeze or drop one part of the controller that cable attaching the each end is going to break. Make everything wireless Nintendo!!!

This was stated during the keynote speech. Why hasn't any news sites covered it? Bad translators?

The system will come with a controller and the analog extension. Whether or not it comes with the "classic pad" shell extension is unknown. But that is how the system will be able to play NES, SNES, N64, GC, and multi-platform games (from Xbox360 and PS3) not ported to the Revolution's controller.

In addition, you could just use your GameCube controllers with the system and skip the classic gamepad extension.

Extensions will cost money, but it really depends on their functionality. If you were to make a racing wheel extention, the turning movement is already handled by the controller. Just plug it in to a steering wheel shell and the majority of the functionality is done by the controller itself. This could be relatively inexpensive.

Alkaiser, if you look at it with wide eyes, you'll have five different types of controller:

1) The Wireless 3D Mouse controller
2) The Gamecube controller
3) The GBA used as a controller
4) The various possible add-on shells
5) A third-party company will most likely redesign the "remote" to look like a conventional controlller so that the "hardcore"
can quit bitching about it.

What everyone's questions should be about is if the revolution's downloadable content and/or shells will extend to sega too.

I've always been a Nintendo fan since the first system. Now in this day and age where graphics and stories seems to dominate gameplay in some fashion, i've never been more attached to the GC and the GBA. All this new gizmo stuff there going to have with the Rev. is pretty cool, but i'm still waiting to see some demo's of how they will be used. I'm also holding my breath on the rumor that old NES/SNES games will be able to be d/led and played on the Rev. It's currently the only next-gen system I'm interested in so i'm looking forward to seeing how Nintendo will live up to it's claims.
