PSP TV adaptor: finally, a way for everyone to enjoy your UMD film
Creative, ingenious, and not pertaining to Tokyo Game Show? This is quite a feat for today. Team Xtender has just announced that they are in the final stages of development for their PSP2TV accessory. What it is, essentially, is a docking station that allows you play PSP games (and watch UMD movies) on your TV. Another nice feature is the ability use a PS2 dual shock controller in lieu of the portable's controls.
Think about it: when you are at home, you can relax on the couch and play your favorite PSP game (the upcoming GTA:
Liberty City?) on your television, and if you have to go somewhere, just undock the console and take it with you. This
is so good of an idea I kind of wish Sony would have already released a first-party version of this. Maybe one day if
they go the way of the Game Boy Advance and release a new
version of the PSP.
Unfortunately, there is no information currently available on an exact release date, the price, or how much
installation will be required internally to the PSP. All e-mails to their listed address (Sales@teamxtender.com) have
so far been returned by the evil mailer daemon, but hopefully we will have more information soon.
[Thanks, tr1gunn and Billy]

Wow, impressive!!! But... I have my PS2 for that, duh.

I wanna know what the bottom piece is on their pictures of the PSP. It must be how they got the video to come out of it. Tapped into the cables outputting to the screen, i wonder how hard of a mod this would be.

What is the point of this? The reason you watch movies on the PSP is because it's portable. When on a TV everybody will always go for the superior DVD version.
Same goes for PSP games, if to a somewhat lesser extent.
Christopher7xii @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Yeah... This is dumb. I suppose the PS2 doesn't have an SNES/Genesis/NES emulator though, and now it does.
phoomp @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
I'd be more inclined to buy movies for my PSP if I could watch them on more venues than just the PSP.
Scott @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
It's a mod! Another opion! If you don't want it don't buy it!
If it's cheap enough I'll prolly get it......

There are of course the PSP only games! im thinking of GTA-LCS, which is a game i definatly want to get my hands on. But was intent on letting it pass me by coz i really cant see me ever playing games on the move. never have and never will. I prefer to play my games in the comfert of my own home, on a big screen. so buying a hand held gaming system is something i just dont want to do. This little accessory have given me a good reson to buy the PSP
paralipsis @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
My PSP is too new (I'm living in Europe) for me to consider cracking it open for a mod like this, even though it is clearly a bit of functionality that the system should have had in the first place.
burninhell @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Lets hope there's a way to reformat the video into a "letterbox"...if this was gameplay and not just a CG cutscene (as shown in the pic) you'd be missing half of the screen...
chris lackey @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
I think that the image that is being sent to the screen is squished to fit. Owning a widescreen tv would fix this, as it can just take that signal and stretch it, but people with 4x3 TVs look like they would be out of luck, being forced to watch movies and play games crunched down to fit the screen, thus distorting the image. it would make it much more expensive if the unit processed the image and added the widescreen "black bars."
burninhell @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Thanks for pointing that out, chris. Now I can see that the image is horizontally squeezed...so anyone with a 4X3 screen, assuming you're right about the hardware not processing for letterboxing...it might be OK for (some) games, but your movies would look awfully odd.
Dull @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Yes, you would want a wide screen, strange they didn't show that instead. But if the price is right, I wouldn't mind picking it up.
Sendai @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Uh, the PSP has letterbox formatting on it.
Still don't see the point of this mod though.
E Mo VegiBo @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
This is a fake. Look at the two images in the picture. The hair is in different places.

Take a look at this thread. Pay particular attention to the last post by "outlaw99"

i think it sums it up perfectly.

A few on here could do with their heads examining. Stuff like "What's the point of this?" and "It's dumb" betrays an ignorance which is almost unbelievable, either that or there's a lot of 7 year olds on here.
Consider: PSP is a portable gaming device. I bought mine since I spend 3 months of my life travelling around the world, sitting in airports, hotel lounges and more specifically spending time in hotel rooms on my own with f***k all to do. Watching Japanese TV when you don't speak Japanese is no fun.
While sitting playing the PSP with it's diddy little screen in an airport lounge is cool, sitting in a hotel room still playing the PSP with the small screen while 3 feet away sits an unused TV (sometimes a nice Plasma) that has AV ins on the front is plainly ridiculous. So for people like me who see the small (and admittedly beautiful) screen as a design necessity of portability, rather than a feature, the ability to plug the PSP into a TV is a huge boon. Frankly, that Sony didn't allow us to do it anyway is irritating, but then I guess they'd never sell another PS One again, and people may even buy the PSP over a PS2 for whatever reason.
So, as soon as this thing comes out I'll be ordering one, while the morons will still probably never understand why something that doesn't quite suit them may actually be useful to someone else.
