_Now_ we're talking...
Ninty: take note. We don't want yet another remote control to sit next to the TV / DVD / CD / Digital / VHS remote controllers that already mess up our lounges. We want proper Nintendo fare!

That looks very cool. IMO, the look of the revolution is very similiar to that of the NES (not the Famicom, but the North American NEW)

The fact that it looks like a standard remote control is part of it's appeal; people would naturally inclined to pick up something that looks familiar to them. A typical "game controller" deters most novices from picking it up because it looks so intimidating. I think they're onto something. I just hope they can appease the hardcore gamers out there, I want to see some tech demos dammit!

the "nunchuck mode" looks quite fierce though; it looks like you're playing with a shower head. Can we anticipate a shower simulator? Oh, geez.

LOL
I love it, I hope they do offer a version of the controler that looks like that.
It would look even better if they release a version of the Revolution that looks like this:

Do we really want to play game consoles that are designed for the lowest common denominator? I'm sorry, but if Nintendo wants to make a console that appeals to housewives and grandmothers, I could care less.

Also the button placement on this thing is just atrocious. Don't they run these through ergonomic tests?

Consider this: Nintendo, or a third-party, could make a plastic "cradle" that holds the Revolution controller on the right side and its analog stick attachment on the left, thus, creating a virtual control pad. Something like this, along with the fact that you'll be able to use GameCube joypads on the system, will be of comfort to "hard core" gamers. But overall I see Nintendo moving away from traditional video-gaming and more towards casual, arcade, multi-player gaming with unique controller interfaces.

Dont complain untill you have it in your hands. I am sure Nintendo ran test, also Gamespot Hands-on impression said it was perfect for Playing Metroid Prime 2, and turning it to the Morph ball was easy. The PS3 conroller looks horrable also but im sure it operates fine.

Any company that can conceive the likes of SMB, Mario Kart or Mario 64 is ok with me. However, I fear that Nintendo is living on former glories.

I'm a gamer and I want to play _games_, not play with novelty toys. Do I care if the Revolution appeals to a wider audience? No. I want it to appeal to me. And I _don't_ want to re-purchase all the retro games that Nintendo is bound to release for its 'new' console.

I think the Revolution could very well be that: revolutionary. It could well be a whole new gaming experience. But not all revolutions are for the better...

Come on, Ninty: prove me wrong.

Hey Rymix I agree with you "I fear that Nintendo is living on former glories."

I love Advanced Wars and really hope that Nintendo pushes forward with new game characters, stories, and ideas if they are going to be "revolutionary" and whatnot. How about a new fantasy character? How about a new platformer?

This is the first game-console I've considered buying my mom. ;D

And I'm equally intrigued. You can propably count me as a casual gamer, but I remember not liking such heralded classics as MGS2 very much because I felt it was too difficult to control. Push the wrong button, and you find yourself laying on the floor instead of aiming a gun at your foe. Not fun.

I'll be buying only one console this generation. For me, it's a no-brainer. I didn't find any appeal in the offerings of XBox nor PS2 this gen, and I doubt it'll change the next.

why has everybody forgotten that back in february, sony introduced somethinig way coller. 3d control using the next gen eye toy without a frigging dvd player remote in your hand..... check it out :

http://www.gamespy.com/articles/584/584744p1.html

forgot to mention this in my earlier posts...

also, like i said before, like anything else, this too is a good peripheral and cool technology but not aropriate for constant control as can get tiring. however, buying a revolution just for the controller seeems absurd as sony introduced better technology 9 months ago..

make sure to read the whole article

the current eye toy is similar, so are the dddr games.. or if u have played teh time crisis like shooting game which tracks your movement.. also.. i have worked alot in the 3D caves (VR) labs of my univ.. so yes.. i know similar technologies... get educacted and then come back.

also the point is not whether i have tried it or not. the point is that i am stating my personal opinion from my observations.

lastly, you hold a remote, not swing it around pretending its a sword....

correction, ghazi..

more than a little bit of speculation has been made as to the possibility of using this thing as a sword, among many other things it could be used to represent the motion of.

I like this skin. Gotta love classic skins.

And if you're upset about this new controller, suck it up. Nintendo's offering something to make video games less stale, and they have more balls than Sony and Microsoft put together to use it. Now open your mind and concieve the possibility that this new layout may blow some game genre controls out of the water.

You wait with anticipation to see what's so revolutionary, and when you see it you finally hate it because it's not traditional? What did you expect? A virtual helmet? A gauntlet? A superscope? ... a Dual Shock controller? -_-

Eye toy sucks by the way. I find Leapfrog games funner. Yeah, I went there. What you gonna do? -_-

I think I'll like the nunchuku configuration. I also look forward to seeing the traditional controller shell. I'd prefer to see more buttons on the remote, however. A, B, and a D pad isn't enough, simply put. It needs to have X and Y buttons beside the A button and four C buttons under it, to make SNES games, N64, and GC games even concievably playable on it.

But even if it turns out not to be so, the shell ought to fix that.

Ghazi, ever hear of something called a webcam. PC game makers could have done such with it but they chose not to. So why now get all excited about something that's just being used in the exact same way just on a different platform. Why didn't they just give PC webcams the capability to do these things?
