Sonic the Hedgehog coming to PS3 and Xbox 360
Sega has named the first of the Sonic games to come to the next-gen consoles as Sonic the Hedgehog. Not a very imaginative name, but if it ain't broke… A demonstration shown at the Tokyo Game Show confirms previous rumors on the same topic.
The director of the game, Masato Nakamura, demonstrated a real time version of the game at the Tokyo Game Show. The new title brings features like Havok physics, real time shadows and ragdoll enemies to the franchise, which will be 15 years old when this game is released. It's come quite a way since the original Genesis version, which lacked moving clouds or rippling water and featured luscious 16-bit graphics.
Make sure to check out the super realistic shots of Sonic at the "read" link below.

I'm not really excited for this game. But the physics of the brick wall breaking apart was pretty cool. If that truly demonstrates the Havok physics model then I'm impressed! Not sonic though, I never liked that game.

Ugh! This is something that really annoys me about the video game industry today. Games are turning prematurely grey!
Sonic used to have such a great sense of style. But now, in an effort to attract an older crowd, the property has lost all of it. The Sonic Adventure games started the trend a bit. The Sonic look never seemed to transfer. Then, we get the bleak Shadow the Hedgehog, complete with gun battles.
Obviously, now that we have another official Sonic title, Sega's not looking back. This looks like it could belong in Tomb Raider or even one of the sunnier parts of Resident Evil, not Sonic.
Am I the only gamer who isn't afraid of a little bit of color?

Truly, I just am not that impressed. It is Sonic Adventure with a little brick busting involved. I am sure there is more to it than that, and in all respects, it WAS pretty to see. I just feel like its another game, with another played out premise, and its pretty much a prettier version of things we have already played before. I have faith in the little blue blur, but I hope they manage to mix in something besides flash to this title to make it enjoyable.

Take a look at the Nintendo DS game Sonic Rush's TGS video and tell me that Sonic is getting grey.

Well, I enjoyed the 3D Sonic games well enough and this one looks pretty sweet and as long as I don't have to find any Emerald Shards or pilot slow moving walking vehicles I'll be satisfied.

Looks pretty fun to me. I love how he flys through the air and speeds down the big ramp and all that. It looks pretty colorful too, so I don't understand what you mean when you say its all grey?!?

#2 - DAMN STRAIGHT.

This looks really bad. Another step in the wrong direction for Sonic the Hedgehog. This reminds me of those crappy Pitfall and Ms. Pac-Man updates/sequels that try to bring the characters into the 21st century. Let Sonic do what Sonic does best: Platform like a mo-fo, at blazingly fast speeds. I didn't think the graphics were very impressive, at all. I'm still waiting for one of these next-next-gen titles to look better than Resident Evil 4.
The only hope for Sonic seems to be the new side-scroller being released on the DS. Too bad, because the character used to star in some incredible games.

I read at Gamestop that the theme for this game would be "if Sonic was real"... I haven't played a Sonic game since the 16bit days, and I cringe every time I hear the blue guy speak.
What I would like to see is a Sonic game for the revo-controller. I've often felt that the series lost something with the current control mechanics. It just didn't translate too well, and the demo looks near painful to play. Sluggish even. In a Sonic game, no less.
*goes off to daydreaming*

Steve G. I totally agree. I liked the way sonic games looked and how they played. Sure that was 2-d but the games were very colorful and vibrant.
And sonic games weren't known for their challenge but a kid or older gamer could pop one in and still have a good time.
As for why they are going more towards that direction I imagine they are just trying to keep up with the trends. Bright colorful games are too kiddy anymore or some crap. Thats too bad. Who dictates what is in style in games? The people who buy them...I hope the GTA-esque games get old to people eventually.

Sonic was great on the Genesis, but I can't imagine playing it now. Especially with the trend that is going on with games these days. It would work well as a game download though.

Are these people crazy or am i just not seeing what they are writing?? Res 4 looks shite compared to the next gen games, considering u need to get clear res clips to watch, but i love sonic 2d but even more 3D and ive followed him since his first outting like a madman. (and that i truly am) But i Love it. Realistic graphics are spectacular, the speed is said to be the most intense ever experianced in a game, it is as close to having sonic pop out and say hi to me that ive ever seen!!! Long time Sonic fan, and this games givin Sega and Sonic a massive boot in the right direction. Also keep in mind these trailers are taken when the game is still in production so as an incompleted game its AWESOME. i cant wait to see the finished product
