Kojima retiring from MGS (again); going portable, online
Hideo Kojima is retiring from Metal Gear.
Again.
There were rumblings of the series' creator jumping ship after the third (and even second?) MGS installments
on a Sony console (i.e., MGS3: Snake Eater), but this time he might really do it. Kojima stated at TGS: "This
fourth [Metal Gear Solid] is going to be the final one for me and Shinkawa [the art designer for the
Solid series]." Without Shinkawa handling character designs, Kojima may finally feel free to leave his main
duties at the Metal Gear helm.
Of course, Mr. Kojima tried to do the same thing after the original Metal Gear on the MSX, but was compelled
to return after seeing the "low quality" of its sequel, Snake's Revenge. The successful follow-up to the
abysmal Snake's Revenge, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, ironically enough, was what inspired Shinkawa to
join Kojima's team in the first place.
Well, we don't know how Kojima's role will evolve in the development of future Metal Gear games—or whether
the creator of Kirby will get involved
with the series somehow—but we do know that "he plans to develop more games… unique to handheld gaming machines" and
that "he wants to expand MGS in the online gaming sector." The portable
Metal Gear Acid and
MGS3: Subsistence's online mode appear to be the
first steps in this new direction.

my take: snake dies at the end of the next one. he's old, y'know, and unmentioned time frames in the past (i.e. Acid style tangents or another snake eater-esque blast from the past) could fill a generations worth of sequels, if they don't choose to ressurect raiden or clone someone again anyway.

First Jay-Z, now Kojima. Where the world headed?
However, as we all know, Jay-Z still pops up on remixes every other week, so I'm sure Kojima is suffering from burnout from the total immersion in this MGS4 project... Give him a year or two, and I'm sure Sony can find some sort of financial incentive to rekindle his interest...

'Senor' the man you are thinking about is Shinji Mikami. Also the producer of Res 4, Kobayashi is a huge Metal Gear fan, I think Mikami is too. Hence all the Metal Gear inspired stuff in Resident Evil 4.

Maybe Kojima will inspire Miyamoto.
*crosses fingers*

Maybe.. But I can never get enough of Mario or Zelda.
As for Kojima.. Hmm I am not sure how I fell about this. If he does leave that wonder if he will get into making other games?

Hideo Kojima was on one the developers shown in video clip at Iwata's TGS speech. He talked about how he loved the Revolution control. The same thing happened with DS at E³ 2004 with the DS, all the developers I believe on that video have released, or are working on, DS titles. Therefore I conclude Kojima will be making a Revolution game :P
Phil "Osirus" @ Dec 18th 2005 9:36PM
Kojima will make games for the Revolution that is 100% certain, and the DS, because he loves being able to do new things on a console.
This is what makes the DS and the Rev so attractive to game designers, it's new, so expect unique and great games on Nintendo's systems.

Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake is awesome.
If I may make a bold claim, Metal Gear Solid didn’t really contain much innovative stuff, it was just Metal Gear 2, but then in 3D and with a different story :). MG2 was the real innovative game.
Anyways, you’ll all be able to play and judge for yourself when MGS3:Subsistence is released :). Look forward to it!
Btw, to clarify, Snake’s Revenge was released on the NES. The Metal Gear on the NES was also different from the original MSX Metal Gear, and afaik also not directed by Kojima. Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake was the successor of Metal Gear (MSX), and not the NES games.
