A shaky-cam video showing off an engine (created with Direct X 10) has emerged from Microsoft's Professional Developers Conference '05. The video is from german developer CryTek's CryEngine 2, an advancement over the original FarCry game engine. The video shows features like soft particles, accurate transparency and very pretty volumetric clouds.
So what's the deal with these new graphical features then? Well apparently this demo was developed with Direct X 10, the unreleased upgrade for Microsoft's graphics API on the PC platform. Naturally this will be part of Microsoft's renewal of interest in the PC platform. So what do you think? Will some fancy 3D clouds reverse the decline of PC gaming?
