The Mercury News is reporting that game company Muzzy Lane has created a history game called Making History including a "content pack" called The
Calm and the Storm based on World War II that resembles turn-based strategy games Risk and
Civilization.
Company representative Dave Martz told the Mercurity News "that about 25 different schools have already purchased the game, including colleges such as Indiana University and the University of Illinois, as well as high schools such as Amity Regional High School in Comverse, Ind." If you end up using this game in class, drop us a tip and let us know what you thought of it.
Frequently, games targeted for sales to school administrators are not nearly as compelling as their consumer-focused counterparts. They tend to be more staid and less vibrant, but that's the conundrum. School officials aren't likely to buy a game that looks too fun, and they know damned well that students always welcome a break from the books, no matter how boring. Remember Oregon Trail?
