[Update - updated to clarify language.]
Sometimes we get tips that puzzle us. A company emailed us today encouraging us to let you all know that they've managed to create a game of solitaire that is 100% winnable, noting in their press release that "random dealing typically makes one-third of all hands of solitaire impossible to win."
Isn't the random bum hand the point of card games? What card game doesn't have the possibility of losing horribly? If the random element is removed from the game and you know for sure that the hand you've been dealt is winnable, then why not just remove all of that pesky gameplay and skip straight the "You're a winner!" declaration?
That said, it may be that the company has actually managed to improve upon Solitaire, a game that's been around for over 100 years. By removing bum hands, they may have made the game more fun (or they may have made it less fun for purists who insist that the possibility of a bad deal is just the nature of the game).
And some people claim that games are getting too easy...
