[Update: observant reader Hans Tseng points out that the website used to have a different picture there with an identical file name, "revolution.jpg," so that the forum post picture was updated when the original page swapped the mockup picture for the real picture. Thanks, Hans.]
There has always been a feeling that, with all the Revolution mockups floating around, if the controller was
actually leaked to the public, no one would believe it. Well, that was kind of true. On September 9th at 1:00 PM,
almost a week before the Tokyo Games Show, a post showed up on the Nintendo forums posting the now infamous pictured to
the right, with someone's hands holding nunchuks up to a screen.
The reaction was, not surprisingly, unanimous disbelief: "fake," "your not serious?," "for the love of crap," "not
funny and boring," and most curious of all, "this is so old it's not even funny." 6 minutes after the post went live,
forum moderator Mario shut it down with the following explanation: "This topic title seems to be misleading, so I'm
locking this thread. If you find a Revolution controller image on a blog, but not on Nintendo's site, it's most likely
fake." Seems like some upper management types were very quick to bump this off the radar.
[Thanks, retro]
