The PS3's "different direction" for its standard controller may seem a bit strange to some—and,
thankfully, still a "conceptual design" to
others—but there might be an ergonomic precedent for Sony's DualShock-ing new ways: the strikingly similar (but
supposedly comfortable) PS1 third-party design you see
here.
Some folks may remember this from their pre-DualShock glory days (or even a post
right after the pre-E3 unveiling?), but this is the
first that we've seen of this digital wonder. It apparently even had
a review: "Hands down the best feel of any controller
out there! Coolest design, too! Super smooth directional pad and a great rubber grip makes it a breeze to use." 4-1/2
out of 5 stars.
Though we might ridicule its elongated handles, could the
batarang simply have been ahead of its time? Let's just hope that Sony bought up
the proper rights from Alps Interactive, the older
controller's (now defunct?) distributor, or they might be seeing
another lawsuit on their hands.
