VG Cats tackle the next-generation of consoles
Here is one more web comic for the day. VG Cats – adorable characters who feel most at home with violence, language, and sexual innuendo – have run an exposé on the next-generation consoles. Each console has its moment of mockery – from Xbox 360's over-customizability to Sony and Nintendo's choice of controllers (and their possible other functions, pictured). Very funny and poignant.

The rat attachment would be perfect for those SNES Zelda dungeons when you're rescuing the princess. It could bite you whenever you got hit.
Dignan17 @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Wow. Poignant, huh? It's tough to see you guys get all emotional about this stuff.
Christopher7xii @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
LOL, love the Potatomoto. Really sucks they brought up the Legend of Zelda on CD-I... How embarassing.
anonymous @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
the CD-I Zelda was the best part. both of them are a shame.
Ruari @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
They fail to highlight that Microsoft's 'cutomize it make it your own' PR message is spin for a money making tactic. They make you pay a lot for faceplates and all the software customizations. = Rip off, but they lick it up like milk from a saucer, like the Vgaming Cats they are!
nk @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
If you read some previous comics and news posts, you'll realise that Scott is quite the Nintendo hateboy, even if he won't admit it.
Scott @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Yeah, that's why I buy all thier stuff. Because I hate them.
nk @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Toldya so. :p
Using a company's product doesn't prevent one from relentlessly and unfairly bashing it and its fans, apparently. Makes sense, of course, nobody wants to go "hey I hate this and that but I haven't actually played it."
Scott @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
I'm not sure you've met my friend Satire. He just wants your love. Don't be afraid to love.
Joe Kovell @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Cool stuff. I'm sure I'll end up with all three systems and 40 attatchments in a few years.
P.S. Thanks for the link. Somehow my site is still up!
G MacDonald @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
You can also see from other VGCats strips that the writer also mocks the people who criticise consoles (like the DS V's PSP strip) therefor also making fun of himself showing that he's more interested in making people laugh than trying to force his own opinion on them. Webcomics are there for humour and/or entertainment so stop taking them so seriously! Kthxbai!
Steve @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
I love VGcats, always impressed with what Scott does.
Sosa @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
The writer has a name and he's RIGHT THERE talking to you about it. You don't have to deconstruct or assume, he's telling you exactly how he feels!
anarco_rata @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
^^ hey, i am taking this chance to say that i love your comics, scott! if you only could clone yourself and updating EVERYDAY!...
of course, then you and your clones would kill themselves for the amazing profit vgcats MUST make, that would not be funny..
Logan @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Is anybody else ever amazed at humanity's inability to read what is right in front of them?
Shaggy @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Yes, folks, the very same Scott that's posted here a few times is the creator of VGCats, so it would be rather prudent not to talk about him like he's not seeing all of this. He also deserves your money. So, ya know, send him some.
It's not very kind to speak about someone having only glossed over a few things they've created. If you'd ripped the time out of your busy schedule of staring at a wall drooling you'd know that Scotty-boy quite often talks about his love/hate affair with Nintendo. So stop being slack-jawed jerks.
Heck, even looking at that ONE comic you'd see that he mocked all three coming consoles. Granted he went a little light on the PS3 (There's really not that much there to mock.), but he still added it in.
It was for a laugh, people. Stop taking everything you see to heart.
Bowserboy @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
This guy is absoloutly halarious. He makes fun of everything most of the stuff he loves. Read the damn news posts.
D3stiny-Sm4sher @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
HEART!
But, seriously, folks...
I'll admit, Scott's seemingly blunt and harsh judgement offended me, because I don't think it's right to judge the PS3 OR the Revolution so much until we actually see them in their final forms. Nonetheless, I go to VG Cats for a laugh, and I laughed, indeed.
I mean, did anyone ever point out that Miyamoto had just about NOTHING to do with Crystal Chronicles? Seriously.
Cyborg isn't 40, either (reference to 153), and I'm a huge Titan fan. So yea, I was offended in a way, but it was still hilarious.
"Yes, I realize the hypocrisy!" ~ 153
Like someone said earlier, I think Scott is just being comical, d00ds. And damnit, even when I disagree, it's still funny. :P
As for the next-gen wave, we can't really judge anything at this point except for the 360, since we actually know what we're getting. Too bad that the 360 has, like, NO appeal, so it seems...
Nova Kit Fox @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
i must say that he has always had funny comics since the first ones where they almost all where about Counter STrike.
and slot of the opinions i get through his comics pretty mcuh match my own on what i think of stuff.
Even more so with the DS vs PSP comic.
Matt @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Its completely ridiculous, scott's comics deliver a fresh and funny outlook to games, systems, and news. Scott doesnt hate/like any particular system in his last comic "hold the future" it cleary does not say arrghh "nintendo relovution is a tit" or anything else for that manner. using comics he expresses many peoples' idea on each system.
Tom @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Indeed. Scott's VG Cats has been one of my favorite web comics for a while now. I appreciate his ability to provide humorous scenarios to show his opinion and thoughts on various issues within the gaming industry. Bizarre as some of those scenarios may be...
But back to the point at hand... I enjoyed his review of the new consoles. While I didn't know about the CD-I before I read his comic, it made the media's comments about the controller even more retarded. "Revolutionary new controller!" "New design a marvel of the gaming industry." "I have pants!"
I love how the media latches onto anything it can and sensationalizes it beyond levels of stupidity never before achieved.
Oh, and I don't like the new controller for the Nintendo. Yes, it's my opinion. No, I don't care if you agree.
Alan @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
if you can see this HI SCOTT *waves* ^^
Joe Kovell @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
In an industry which is based on so much hype, it's great to have an outside source, such as webcomics, to point out the humerous contradictions and problems burried benieth the flashy exterior.
This particular comic does a great job of pointing out that none of the next gen systems are as perfect as their corresponding companies would have you believe. Sure it is over the top in its criticism, but that is comedy for ya. It's not that I won't buy an Xbox 360 because I think I will have to pay for the bling model.
Teryngale @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Well he is right about the revolution. The thing looks like a dildo. That was the first statement my friends and I had when setting eyes upon it. One of my friends cried, and now he is going to buy a PC with Windows installed instead.
DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!!!
Anyway, Yeah, the controller is totally ****able. I'd bonk that.
*Holds up a sign "HI SCOTT!!"*

I would not call that nintendo hate.
james @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
well normally im all for Defending a multi million dollar company i really REALLY doubt they care at worest scotts comic will make people rember all the diffrent systems "OMGOSH 360 is customizeable im so buying that now" its like free publicty... only actually effective... (unlike the comercials showing some random kid playing with his mom and dad "golly ge")moving on from that YEAH it does look like that (and im sure some sick bastard will use it that way...)okay so really next time you go to write something i suggest turning off "uber fanboy nothing could possibly be wrong and if you say otherwise your gay mode" and think about it
Sean @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Well, if Scott still looks at this page I want to say Hi to him. Your Comics are the highlight of my mondays.
nk I doubt Scott's a hatebot, why would he make a joke out of a old nintendo game punch out.
benk @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Last i checked they were still GAMES. CHILDREN'S PLAYTHINGS.
it's all about fun right?
i have fun at VG cats and I've bought some of his stuff.
No worries
Jay @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Aright, Scott's a funny guy with a funny comic. Case in point: his hilarious email chewout with the jackass himself, Jack Thompson.
The only thing stopping me from completely getting behind him here is the fact that his comics for the past half a year or so have been far from their usual quality. Seriously, look at some of the stuff he had a few dozen strips ago. Classic. Recently though, the site seems to have deteriorated to pointless jokes about booze and rape. I know you don't owe us anything Scott, but make with the quality!
Oh yeah, and if Miyamoto cared about money in the slightest, he wouldn't be giving us off-the-wall concepts like the DS and the Revolution. He'd be soullessly milking out consels like the Xbox and playstation.
Potatomoto @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
I LIKE YOUR MONEY!
Masar @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
VGCats = the r0xx0rs.
Seriously, Scott is amazing. His satire is well done and his characters are funny. Besides, he's a fellow gamer and that's what counts.
Khan Soul @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
VG Cats is awesome. Since finding it (through the Ctrl+Alt+Del website) I have checked the site every Monday for updates and read the news posts as well. I always like to hear what other gamers have to say about what's going on in the gaming community.
Oh and the thing with Cyborg on Teen Titans: he is 40 in the DC Comics universe. He wasn't originally a part of the Teen Titans. Nerd info vomit.
Andy @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
SCOTT I SAW YOU IN REAL LIVE PERSON OMFG!
(In real life you don't have pants on your head :(
Almorac-Shinomi @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
I've always loved VG Cats since I first started getting into webcomics and most of the stuff he makes fun of is in some way true to a point. Yea, the Revolution controller thing, I agree. The Facehugger thing, oh yea comedy gold. Iff you looked up the saying "laughter is the best medicine" it would be hard not to think of VG Cats. I mean theres nothing wrong with bashing something, not everything is perfect.
Nickie @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
I personally have been reading Scott's work for a while now and don't see where he's saying stuff that everyone else on the net isn't saying.
I play on a PS2 and bitch about it when I fail at a mission on a game. Big frikken deal. In fact, I think Scott's making fun of the game systems brings them more bussiness cause seeing that Rumble pack for that new system just makes me want to see what one really plays like.
And I think that rummble pack does look dirty.
Dirty Dirty Dirty Kitty. XD
I also happen to be a fan of Scott's work and someday hope to have a comic half as funny. So I guess I'm bias.
Martin @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Amen.
Ps: I <3 you Scott, let's make sweet passionate love and father man-babies together.
link89 @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
hehe, got to this blog from a link from VGcats lol. scott rules, though lately i think he could be funnier with a little less crudeness, but its still relavant and i see the inspiration, so its still funny. he does a great job and all the guys on my forum (Just Zelda Forums) absolutely love him. scott, im a big fan and keep up the good work. i hope that some of the game companies see these comics and work to prevent themselves showing us these messages (fully customiseable, lol). another great gaming web comic, ctl-alt-del by tim buckley is great. (scott pus links to him all the time too).
YouWishYouWereMe @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Now, I'm all for the Nintendo Revolution controller because of its relative flexability compared to the other two controllers. Of course I've been a fan of Nintendo ever since I picked up the original Legend of Zelda for the NES. But I think the best way to make it work would have to be by packaging many of the attachments with the system. And a memory card, for the love of God, a MEMORY CARD.
Nintendo's new controller sure doesn't guarentee a slam-dunk, but it does make gamers think twice before dismissing the Revolution as a second-rate system. Nintendo doesn't have the 3rd party support to spit out another run-of-the-mill console and depend on Square-Enix to keep up sales. So they offer a different take on the consoles to draw in curiosity and hopefully brew games that can only be produced for the Revolution.
Mr. Ransoomir cleverly points this out by showing that attachments will be where the real sales come from. Want to play Super Smash Brothers? Gotta buy the SSB controller! But don't worry, it'll come bundled with the game for an additional $30 dollars. Now whether or not there will be games that relate to the "sex toy" concept of the controller is beyond me. Bet it would sell though...
Imatron @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Well, Im just one of those people who came because I found the link on VGcats.com that takes you here, I know by the time I post this some others may have said the same thing:
It's a comic, Scott's trying to make us laugh for the mostpart, and in the comic business sometimes you decide to or have to use a dirty joke or degrade something you know is good in order to make it seem funny! It does not neccisarily mean that the comic reflects his opinion.
adamgnome @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
LOOOOOOL AT PEOPLE TAKING COMPLETE HUMOUR SERIOUSLY.
D:
No seriously people, when I was 3 playing NES and 7 playing PS1 I didn't take offense to anything.
You're all retards and the internet has drained your humour.
Barry @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Well, first of all, I think I'll whore on it and say I love VG Cats.
I'll also go on to say that I own a CDi. Don't ask me where I got it, my dad worked on it. I've played the Zelda games, which, to a young child, aren't actually so bad.
I suppose that from a certain point, Nintendo's Revolution controller appears retarded. It doesn't have many conventional aspects, and how the hell are you supposed to play SSB? But from my point of view, I feel that it's actually a pretty cool concept. Sure, Nintendo may try to scrounge up a few extra million with required accessories, but it looks like it'll deliver a pretty cool experiance. I'd love to play a shooting game holding my controller like a gun.
Also, has anyone seen the picture of the top thing open? It looks like there are ports that you could plug GameCube controllers into.
Darkhitman @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Scott generally shares similar opinions about the consoles as I do, but, as a fellow (but largely unknown) parodical webcomic author, I understand that the opinion one might get from the strip is not always the same that the author actually has.
For example, I've ripped on pretty much everyone I can think of in my comics... including me, my favorite games, and my favorite movies.
On a side note, Nintendo is definitely going ... off the beaten path. Both the DS and the Revolution have serious resemblences to sex toys... which I'm sure is pure coincidence. Or not. I mean, Japan _is_ weird.
a guy @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
So... Uh when did this become a "Scott Hates Nintendo Revolution" article? Last I realized it said somethin along the shortend lines of "Scott made himself a funny about the new consoles" Anyways I thought this was one of his funnier comics in a while... Cause u know they do have those vibrating balls on a string, and that does uncanilly resemble a sex toy w/ a rotating knob... Anyways. Kudos w/ this one ^^
Deej @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Scott is a gamer. I am a gamer. So what?
The new consoles... eh. I don't think that any of them will "be the best". All 3 will have their strengths and weaknesses, like the Rev will be killer with Time Crisis but not so good with games like Smash Bros or Zelda. On the other hand, PS3 won't have out a nice variety of games, like usual, and the 360 will be the general whore trying to get the most companies to make new content so people will buy it.
Oh, and PSP sucks. So do all you bastards who downloaded Advent Children. If you really are a Square fan, then you would never even think of "previewing" the movie. Burn in hell.
Evan @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
A "comedy genius"? Hmmm. I'm not so sure. Scott's a great artist, but a one-trick pony if you ask me. I like how he covers topics/characters in gaming very directly, but just like...in (what seems like) three out of four of Scott's comics, you'll get the following: a panel with one of the characters with their eyes a-bulging, and sexual humor. I enjoy reading the comic, but it gets old when it's done over and over.
Joe Kovell @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Random topic redirection time, I guess...
back on track...
They all have their weaknesses, so it is fun to mock them.
They all have their strengths, so I will own them all.
No reason not to point out the flaws of something you like regardless of those flaws.
Dan Morandir @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
First of all, Scott, since you have posted, I think you must be reading this. If you are doing it, I want you to know something (if you didn't know it already): YOU'VE GOT FANS IN SPAIN. Yes. Old mean Europe. You get to this length, to make us laugh our ass out. And also to know what "laugh our ass out" means.
This said, I don't know if I should post this, just bringing again the same point, but I will.
Why? Obviously, because I can.
Videogames are videogames. Opinions are opinions. Even if they weren't in a satiric mood, opinions are free. And this isn't even serious, it's a (very good) webcomic. We're discussing a joke like if it was something important to the development of whole civilizations. No, it isn't. It's just hilarity. You know, that thing you feel when you get all laughy-moody. Just laugh, donate and let it go. I'm all for XBox, and I can even burst in tears of laugh with Ye Olde Comments about its controller ridiculous size or Microsoft's satanic rites and hails. You haven't signed a contract for any of the major companies (or so I think), so you're not legally bounded to defend them to death.
Mature. Laugh. Use your abstraction, your frontal lobe. I don't know if you've thought of it, but it's what makes you human.
Jacob Smith @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Oh God. I completely agree with what'shisface. I mean come on. Why would you possibly ever even THINK of trying to make fun of ANYTHING. That's not even American. Scott, you bastard. How could you do something so unethical and so...so...unAMERICAN! I forshame you. YOU ARE FORSHAMED. Burn in hell Scott. BURN IN HELL! I'm going to go have an emotional breakdown because unlike this guy, you decided to make people laugh instead of making them hate everything. Words can't even describe the scum that you are Scott. Words can't even describe.
