The critical reviews are out for gangster-themed street racer 187: Ride or Die (PS2, Xbox) and they're
nearly unanimous: this game's a pig. Given the choice between "ride" or "die" most are
choosing the latter. Here's what they're saying:
GameSpot: 6.2/10 "A fairly standard car combat game with extremely repetitive gameplay and a hip-hop theme that feels about as fake and forced as possible."
1up: 4.5/10 "unlike the Twisted Metals and Mario Karts that came before it, 187 doesn't favor either driving or shooting above the other, settling for a middle ground that doesn't excel at either approach"
Eurogamer: 4/10 "187: Ride or Die is a game that could have been much better, had it not focused on trying to cram as much Gangsterite gibberish up its Los Santos as possible, and instead focused on creating a game which was enjoyable, distracting nonsense."
Sydney Morning Herald: 2.5/5 "The "rubber-band" rivals, where opponents appear to slow down or speed up depending on where you are positioned in the race, ensures clever driving skill is rarely rewarded."
Daily Game: 4.5/10 "187: Ride or Die shows just that kind of "I want to be a gangsta but am really a lame suburban poseur" mentality"
We could go on, but at this point it's best to pop a couple caps in this one and tow it to the junkyard.
